Midrash is a form of Jewish rabbinic literature, a form of storytelling that explores ethics and values in biblical texts.

Abraham was in the midst of a prophetic encounter, communing with God, when he noticed three nomads passing hungry. He interrupted his mystical experience in order to bring the nomads into his encampment, refresh them, and feed them. The lesson, explains the Midrash, is that it’s better to be like God than to commune with God.
