    மஹாப்ரளய காலத்தில் மஹா விஷ்ணுமீன் உருவத்தில் அவதரித்தநாள் இன்று.மஹாவிஷ்ணுவை 16உபசாரபூஜை செய்து கீழ் கண்ட மந்திரம்சொல்லி அர்க்கியம் கொடுக்கலாம்.



    ஸத்யவ்ரதோபதேசாய ஜிஹ்மமீனஸ்வரூபத்ருக்.ப்ரளாயாப்திக்ருதாவாஸ க்ருஹாணார்க்கியம்
    நமோஸ்துதே. மத்ஸ்யஸ்வரூபாய விஷ்ணவே நம:இதமர்க்கியம்.அனேனஅர்க்கிய ப்ரதானேன மத்ஸ்யஸ்வரூபி பகவான் ப்ரீயதாம்.





    Manyof you may not familiar with this Sanskrit terminology and would findthe above words difficult to understand. In our parts (village nearTrichur), it is called Pelai and Valamai. Possibly differentterminologies are used about it among our community itself indifferent parts. An article in this subject has been written bySriVatsa Ve. Somadeva Sharma in the latest issue of Brhama Sandesham(april 2003). This is based on an authoritative book called“Vaidyanatha Deekshitham-Asowcha Kandam.”I am giving here onlythe high lights Please note that Gnathi or Sapindar or Dayadhi areall those people who belong to seven generations of our paternalFamily.

    Suthakamor Valamai
    Thisis the ten-day period of exclusion observed by certain family memberswhen a child is born in the family. If a male child is born in afamily all the Gnathis have to observe ten days of exclusion .If asraddham comes during this period it has to be carried out after tendays only. Normally people do not visit temples during this period.This is not applicable to unmarried girls and Brahmacharis in thefamily. They are not affected by Suthakam,
    A:The following people should observe Valamai* for 10 days:-

    1.MarriedBrothers of the newborn baby
    2.MarriedStep and half brothers
    3.Wivesof the brothers
    4.Father,Fathers brothers
    5.Paternalcousins of father
    6.Paternalgrandfather and his brothers and paternal cousins and theirwives.

    Thefollowing people should observe three days of exclusion:-

    1.Maternalgrandfather and grandmother

    Thefollowing people should observe one day of exclusion: -

    1.Uncleof the baby

    Themother should observe 30 days exclusion in case of male child and 40days exclusion in case of female child. After this she should wearnew Mangalya Charadu, and take Panchagavyam. After this only she iseligible to touch the vessels in the house.

    B:Asowcham or Pelai

    Duringthis period except bath and sandhya vandanam nothing else should beperformed.

    (1)Ten days Pelai

    Thefollowing people should observe Pelai if death occurs in the familyexcept in case when the male baby dies before ten days of birth orafter marriage in case of female children:-
    1.Father
    2.Mother
    3.Brothers
    4.Stepand half brothers
    Formale children of less than 7 years who had upanayanam and all of themabove seven years, all the gnathis should observe ten days Pelai
    (2)Three days Pelai
    Whendeath occurs to the above category of people the following peopleshould observe three days of Pelai
    1.Maternalgrand parents
    2.Maternaluncle and his wife
    3.Parentsin law
    4.Mother’ssisters
    5.Paternalaunts (Athai)
    6.Sistersson whose Upanayanam is performed
    7.Daughter’sson whose upanayanam is performed
    8.Gnathisabove seven generation called Samonathakar
    9.Marrieddaughter
    10.Marriedsister
    11.Realparents in case of adopted child
    12.Sonwho has been given in adoption
    13.Allgirls in families of Gnatis who are above 7 years but notmarried
    14.From25 month old to 6 years male children in Gnathis families who did nothave upanayanam
    (3)Special three days Pelai for married girls that is not shared bytheir husband or children
    1.Brotherwho had Upanayanam
    2,Brothersson who had Upanayanam
    3.Sister’sson who had upanayanam
    4.StepMother of mother
    (4)one and half days Pelai(two nights and a day or two days and onenight)
    (a)ForMales
    1.PaternalAunts children
    2.Maternaluncle’s children
    3.Mother’ssisters and their children
    4.Sister’sdaughter
    5.Marrieddaughter of own brother
    6.Daughterof paternal uncles
    7.Son’sdaughter
