Vinayagar idol in front of house

Dear Sir,

We have bought lord ganesh idol in stone(not maakkal) height about 10.5 inches. We want to kept in front our flats ?, what is the procedure for keeping it.

How many days we should kept the idol in Water, nava dhanyam , milk / sornam
