Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 64
In this Sarga, Dadhimukha returns to Madhuvana and apologizes to Aṅgada for trying to restrain him and the other Vānaras. Aṅgada and the Vānaras then fly to Kishkindhā. Meanwhile, Sugreeva tries to console Rāma, assuring him that the Vānaras must have found Seetā, and they would not have otherwise dared to enter Madhuvana, much less pillage it. As he was thus consoling, the Vānaras, led by Aṅgada and Hanumān, land there. Hanumān informs Rāma that he has seen Seetā. Hearing those Amṛt like words, Rāma becomes overwhelmed with joy, and looks at Hanumān with great regard.

with the valiant Vānaras.

Reaching them, the Veera,
with his palms joined in reverence,
said these words to Aṅgada
in a soft and happy tone:

O gentle one, please do not be angry
for having been obstructed.
These guards resisted you
out of ignorance and anger.

You are the heir-apparent and
have every right over this Vana, O strong one.
They were fools to offend you earlier,
be pleased to forgive them.

Hearing about your arrival along with
all the Vānara warriors and about the
transgression into the Vana,
he was rather delighted than becoming angry!

Sugreeva, your uncle, the king and
lord of Vānaras, became happy and said,
‘bring all of them here at once!’

Hearing these gently spoken words of Dadhimukha,
Aṅgada, the eminent Vānara, skilled in speech,
said these words to them (the Vānaras):

kṛtē kāryē parantapāḥ ॥
I guess, O Vānara Warriors, O tormentors of enemies,
that Rāma has come to know about everything.
It is no more right for us to waste time here
having accomplished the mission.

Well, now that all the Vana-rovers
have enjoyed the liquor
as they pleased and have rested,
what remains to be done is
to go to Sugreeva, my revered elder.

I shall do whatever all of you,
the Vānara warrior chiefs, together, decide.
I am at your command regarding what shall be done.

I am not here to lord over you,
even though I am the crown prince.
It is not proper for me to challenge
those who have accomplished their mission.

Hearing these words of eternal virtue
spoken by Aṅgada, the Vana-dwellers
said these words, their hearts in delight:

O bull among Vānaras! O King!
Who would ever speak thus, being a lord!
Everyone, intoxicated with power,
thinks, ‘It is all about me!’

vākyaṃ nānyasya kasyacit ।
sannatirhi tavākhyāti
bhaviṣyacchubhayōgyatām ॥
To say something like this is possible
only for you, and for no one else.
Your modesty forebodes your readiness
for the great future that awaits you.

Now, it is the right time for all of us
who have arrived here, to go to Sugreeva,
the imperishable lord of the valiant Vānaras.

O best among Vānaras,
let us tell you the truth:
Without your explicit orders, the Vānaras
will not move even a single step.

Saying thus, he leaped towards the sky.

All those Vānara warriors
leapt along with him,
covering the sky leaving hardly any gap,
looking as if a mountain was
lifted and held up by a machine.
What kind of machines did they used to have in those days!

யுவராஜோऽஸ்மி யத்யபி ।
அயுக்தம் க்ருதகர்மாணோ
யூயம் தர்ஷயிதும் மயா ॥
nājñāpayitumīṡō'ham
yuvarājō'smi yadyapi ।
ayuktaṃ kṛtakarmāṇō
yūyaṃ dharṣayituṃ mayā ॥
I am not here to lord over you,
even though I am the crown prince.
It is not proper for me to challenge
those who have accomplished their mission.

ப்ருவதஸ்சாங்கதஸ்யைவம்
ஸ்ருத்வா வசநமவ்யயம் ।

bruvataṡcāṅgadasyaivam
ṡrutvā vacanamavyayam ।
prahṛṣṭamanasō vākyam
idamūcurvanaukasaḥ ॥
Hearing these words of eternal virtue
spoken by Aṅgada, the Vana-dwellers
said these words, their hearts in delight:

ப்ரபுஸ்ஸந்வாநரர்ஷப ।

ēvaṃ vakṣyati kō rājan
prabhussanvānararṣabha ।
aiṡvaryamadamattō hi
sarvō'hamiti manyatē ॥
O bull among Vānaras! O King!
Who would ever speak thus, being a lord!
Everyone, intoxicated with power,
thinks, ‘It is all about me!’

தவ சேதம் ஸுஸத்ருஸம்
வாக்யம் நாந்யஸ்ய கஸ்யசித் ।
ஸந்நதிர்ஹி தவாக்யாதி
பவிஷ்யச்சுபயோக்யதாம் ॥
tava cēdaṃ susadṛṡam
vākyaṃ nānyasya kasyacit ।
sannatirhi tavākhyāti
bhaviṣyacchubhayōgyatām ॥
To say something like this is possible
only for you, and for no one else.
Your modesty forebodes your readiness
for the great future that awaits you.

ஸர்வே வயமபி ப்ராப்தா:
தத்ர கந்தும் க்ருதக்ஷணா: ।
ஸ யத்ர ஹரிவீராணாம்
ஸுக்ரீவ: பதிரவ்யய: ॥
sarvē vayamapi prāptāḥ
tatra gantuṃ kṛtakṣaṇāḥ ।
sa yatra harivīrāṇām
sugrīvaḥ patiravyayaḥ ॥
Now, it is the right time for all of us
who have arrived here, to go to Sugreeva,
the imperishable lord of the valiant Vānaras.

த்வயா ஹ்யநுக்தைர்ஹரிபி:
நைவ ஸக்யம் பதாத்பதம் ।
க்வசித்கந்தும் ஹரிஸ்ரேஷ்ட
ப்ரூம: ஸத்யமிதம் து தே ॥
tvayā hyanuktairharibhiḥ
naiva ṡakyaṃ padātpadam ।
kvacidgantuṃ hariṡrēṣṭha
brūmaḥ satyamidaṃ tu tē ॥
O best among Vānaras,
let us tell you the truth:
Without your explicit orders, the Vānaras
will not move even a single step.

ஏவம் து வததாம் தேஷாம்
அங்கத: ப்ரத்யுவாச ஹ ।
பாடம் கச்சாம இத்யுக்த்வா
கமுத்பேதுர்மஹாபல: ॥
ēvaṃ tu vadatāṃ tēṣām
aṅgadaḥ pratyuvāca ha ।
bāḍhaṃ gacchāma ityuktvā
khamutpēturmahābalaḥ ॥
To those who were speaking thus,
Aṅgada responded, ‘Certainly, let us go!’
Saying thus, he leaped towards the sky.

உத்பதந்தமநூத்பேது:
ஸர்வே தே ஹரியூதபா: ।
க்ருத்வாகாஸம் நிராகாஸம்
யந்த்ரோத்க்ஷிப்தா இவாசலா: ॥
utpatantamanūtpētuḥ
sarvē tē hariyūthapāḥ ।
kṛtvākāṡaṃ nirākāṡam
yantrōtkṣiptā ivācalāḥ ॥
All those Vānara warriors
leapt along with him,
covering the sky leaving hardly any gap,
looking as if a mountain was
lifted and held up by a machine.
What kind of machines did they used to have in those days!
