    Sleeping Directions.

    Sleep:
Sleep is to take the rest afforded by a suspension of voluntary bodily functions and the natural suspension, complete or partial, of consciousness; cease being awake. Physiologically, sleep is a complex process of restoration and renewal for the body. Generally when we sleep we don't know which direction we need to place our head. The direction we sleep has a strong impact on our body.

    Cultural Importance:
When Parvathi created a boy from turmeric to guard her while she was taking bath. When Lord Shiva returned he find a stranger denying him access, and struck off the boy's head in rage. Parvati broke down in utter grief and to soothe her, Shiva sent out his squad (gana) to fetch the head of any sleeping being who was facing the north. The company found a sleeping elephant and brought back its severed head, which was then attached to the body of the boy. Hindus trust that sleeping in north direction will cause death. As per traditions South is the direction of Yama (God of death) we shouldn't keep feet in south and only a dead body must be placed in that position.

Now we may realize why the ancient people said, that our intellect improves by east facing head or house, and life lengthens with the head facing south.

    Scientific Reason:
The direction your head faces while sleeping has a strong effect on your physical and mental well-being. Head placement refers to the direction the top of your head points when lying down.
We are advised to avoid sleeping with our head to the north or west.

We all know that our planet has a magnetic pole stretched from north to south with the positive pole at the north and the negative pole at the south. Now, health scientists tell us that we too have a similar magnetic stretch with the positive pole at the head and the negative one at the feet.

It is common knowledge that like poles repel and unlike poles attract not only scientific but also in social spheres. When we lay our heads on the north side, the two positive sides repel each other and there is a struggle between the two.

Since the earth has a greater magnetic force, we are always the losers, and rise in the morning with headache or heaviness.

    Benefits:

Head to East: Auspicious. Always make sure you put your head in the East direction as much as possible.
Avoid daytime sleep. Let the night food be light and early. Drink milk with honey.
Avoid reading serious or sensual literature straining the nerves. Repeat a few mantras to relax your mind before you sleep.

Head to South: Auspicious. The best position for sleeping is with the top of your head pointing to the south and feet pointing north.

    Head to North or West:
Results: Dangerous. Never sleep with the top of your head pointing to the north and feet pointing to the south. Brings terrible dreams and disturbed sleep. You will feel miserable. Irritability, frustration and emotional instability will develop. It sucks your positive vibrations while you sleep. You will lose 50% of your willpower and your soul power will not increase while you sleep. Your physical and mental health will suffer.

North: it is in line with the earth's magnetic field and will create disturbance in human bodies which has high iron (hemoglobin) content and brings disease and west dulls the brain

    Interesting Facts:
When we lay our heads in the southern direction, there is mutual attraction and we wake up fit, fresh and free, unless afflicted by some illness.

We also know that our planet revolves itself from west to east, and sun's magnetic field enters earth from east side. This magnetic force enters our head if we lie with head on the east and exits through feet, promoting cool heads and warm feet as per the laws of magnetism and electricity. When the head is laid towards the west, cool feet and hot head -- result -- an unpleasant start for morning.

Sleeping Direction, Awakening at right side, rubbing palms
    Sleeping Direction:
There is a tradition that we shouldn't keep our head facing north while sleeping. Before knowing the reason for this, we need to know our body construction. Also as per tradition, we have to rub our palms and press our eyes to open them.

    Cultural Importance:
Our ancestors used to tell us to get up from sleep towards of our right direction by pressing parts on right side of the body. Body metabolism will be very low when our body takes rest. When we get up from the bed it immediately speeds up. If we get up from left side our heart faces unexpected stress as it is resided at left side of the body. Tradition states that direction South is ruled by Lord Yama who is god of death, facing feet to the south consider as a sin and Lord Yama will take that person to death soon.Hindus fear to face the feet to south, they keep only dead bodies facing feet towards south. A popular story of Lord Ganesha will tell about sleeping in direction of north(facing head towards north) Shiva gana (Servants of Lord Shiva) will cut the head facing north. Vaastu Shastra also strictly says beds should be placed in direction when one should sleep in direction facing head other than north direction.

    Mantra while going to sleep
    Karacharana Kritam VaaKaayajam Karmajam Vaa
    Shravana Nayanajam VaaMaanasam Vaa Paraadham
    Vihitama Vihitam VaaSarvame TatKshamasva
    Jaya Jaya Karunaabdhe
    Shri Mahaadeva Shambhoo
Meaning of mantra :O Mahadev please forgive all sins committed in the day and bless with good sleep.

Sleeping in Shavaasana posture(sleeping on back) is best to rest the body on bed.If you have snoring problem or in pregnancy period sleeping on side position is best
    Scientific Reasons:
    · The most important part in body is heart, which is placed almost 3parts uppermost of the body. It is not easy circulating blood to the upper parts of body when compared to down parts because of earth gravitational force. In our body, blood vessels in the upper parts are sensitive than the blood vessels in lower part. Blood vessels become vey minute when it goes to upperparts and even if a drop of excess blood in that vessel creates blood clot in the brain. Generally many people face blood clots in brain. They usually occur in minor but affect the complete person and make them lazier. So if we don't follow any measures, we lose our remembrance after 35 years of age.
    · As earth has got magnetic power if we are sleeping towards north our blood vessels in brain get attracted to it and results in blood clots. This is all because of iron content in blood, the medicine for blood loss (anemic).
    · As our nerves end at our palms, when rubbed to each other they get activated so that the whole body get active. As to move full body from the sleeping state firstly we have to activate our body and the brain.
