dear all, pranams. this is regarding dhanurmasam.hope it helps worshippers of lord vishnu.

Dhanurmasam : Dhanurmasam is auspicious month in Hindu spiritual calendar for having many festivals and devotional activities particularly worshipping of God Shri Maha Vishnu.

It is more significance to worship God Shri Maha Vishnu in Dhanurmasam in the early morning before the Sunrise known as Arunodaya Kaala according to Ethics in Hindu. In Dhanurmasa it is expected to perform pooja rituals during the auspicious Brahmi Muhurtha which is approximately two hours before the Sunrise.

In Hinduism for Gods, 6 months of the year is equal to a day (Uttarayana) and another six months are considered to be night (Dakshinayana). Dhanurmasam is the last month on which the night for the Gods ends so this is the Brahma Muhurat for Gods also.

Thus worshiping during Brahma Muhurat would help the devotees to concentrate more on the God thereby geting closer to the Lord.

During Dhanurmasam a special Naivedya known as Huggi (Mudganna) is prepared with Rice and Moong dal mixed in equal extent is offered to God Shri Maha Vishnu.

Dhanurmasam generally comes in between the two Hindu lunar months Margashira and Pushya. According to English calendar, Dhanurmasam usually starts on 16thDecember and ends on January 13th or 14th on the Bhogi festival day. Dhanurmasam is the last month before the beginning of Uttarayana.

    Dhanurmasam Significance

Sri Vishnu Sahasra Nama Sthothram, Purusha Sooktham, Sri Vishnu Sooktham and Narayana Upanishad should be highly praiseworthy to recite during this auspicious month of Dhanurmasam. Goddess Sri Maha Lakshmi is also worshiped along with Lord Vishnu during Dhanurmasam.

Sukla paksha Ekaadasi (either in Margashira or Pushya maasam) associated with Dhanurmasam is honored as Vaikunta Ekaadasi or Mukkoti Ekaadasi the most favorable day to worship Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. Next day is known as Mukkoti Dwaadasi.Huggi -Pongal

Vyatheepatha yoga during Dhanurmasam (Dhanur-Vyatheepaatha Yoga) is important yoga and it is supposed that any Pithru kaarya or charity specified in remembrance of forefathers or Pithrus on this day is very praiseworthy.

Dhanurmasam is considered as the superior purity and high spirituality month attached to only giving more focus and attention in the Divine worship rather than ordinary money oriented activities. This is the reason why, other auspicious functions like Marriage, Gruha Pravesam etc. are not generally performed during this month.
worship lord vishnu this masam and attain infinite punyam and blessings and grace of lord vishnu.

    regards.
