3.26.19b-20a த்ருஷ்ட்வைவாபததஸ்தூர்ணம்
ராகவஸ்ஸாயகைஸ்ஸிதை: ।
தீக்ஷ்ணாக்ரை: ப்ரதிஜக்ராஹ
ஸம்ப்ராப்தாநதிதீநிவ ॥
dṛṣṭvaivāpatatastūrṇaṃ
rāghavassāyakaiṡṡitaiḥ ।
tīkṣṇāgraiḥ pratijagrāha
samprāptānatithīniva ॥
Seeing them dashing fast,
Rāghava received them with sharp nosed arrows,
as one would unexpected guests (in a hurry).
3.26.20b-21 மஹாகபாலஸ்ய ஸிர:
சிச்சேத பரமேஷுபி: ।
அஸங்க்யேயைஸ்து பாணௌகை:
ப்ரமமாத ப்ரமாதிநம் ।
ஸ பபாத ஹதோ பூமௌ
விடபீவ மஹாத்ரும: ॥
mahākapālasya ṡiraḥ
cicchēda paramēṣubhiḥ ।
asaṅkhyēyaistu bāṇaughaiḥ
pramamātha pramāthinam ।
sa papāta hatō bhūmau
viṭapīva mahādrumaḥ ॥
He severed the head of Mahākapāla
with the best of arrows.
He killed Pramāthi with
arrows too numerous to reckon.
Pramāthi fell down dead like
a huge tree with all its branches.
3.26.22-23a ஸ்தூலாக்ஷஸ்யாக்ஷிணீ தீக்ஷ்ணை:
பூரயாமாஸ ஸாயகை: ।
தூஷணஸ்யாநுகாந்பஞ்ச
ஸஹஸ்ராந்குபித: க்ஷணாத் ।
பாணௌகை: பஞ்சஸாஹஸ்ரை:
அநயத்யமஸாதநம் ॥
sthūlākṣasyākṣiṇī tīkṣṇaiḥ
pūrayāmāsa sāyakaiḥ ।
dūṣaṇasyānugānpañca
sahasrānkupitaḥ kṣaṇāt ।
bāṇaughaiḥ pañcasāhasraiḥ
anayadyamasādanam ॥
He filled the eyes of Sthūlāksha with sharp arrows.
Enraged, he instantly sent five thousand
followers of Dūshaṇa to the abode of Yama
with showers of five thousand arrows.
3.26.23b-24a தூஷணம் நிஹதம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
தஸ்ய சைவ பதாநுகாந் ।
வ்யாதிதேஸ கர: க்ருத்த:
ஸேநாத்யக்ஷாந்மஹாபலாந் ॥
dūṣaṇaṃ nihataṃ dṛṣṭvā
tasya caiva padānugān ।
vyādidēṡa kharaḥ kruddhaḥ
sēnādhyakṣānmahābalān ॥
Seeing Dūshaṇa and those who
followed his footsteps slain,
the angry Khara ordered
mighty strong leaders of the army saying:
3.26.24b-25 அயம் விநிஹதஸ்ஸம்க்யே
தூஷணஸ்ஸபதாநுக: ।
மஹத்யா ஸேநயா ஸார்தம்
யுத்த்வா ராமம் குமாநுஷம் ।
ஸஸ்த்ரைர்நாநாவிதாகாரை:
ஹநத்வம் ஸர்வராக்ஷஸா: ॥
ayaṃ vinihatassaṃkhyē
dūṣaṇassapadānugaḥ ।
mahatyā sēnayā sārdhaṃ
yuddhvā rāmaṃ kumānuṣam ।
ṡastrairnānāvidhākāraiḥ
hanadhvaṃ sarvarākṣasāḥ ॥
Dūshaṇa and all those who went along with him
have been killed in the fight.
Go, all of you, O Rākshasas, with your great army
and kill the despicable human Rāma,
using Ṡastras of every shape and kind!
3.26.26-28 ஏவமுக்த்வா கர: க்ருத்தோ
ராமமேவாபிதுத்ருவே ।
ஸ்யேநகாமீ ப்ருதுக்ரீவோ
யஜ்ஞஸத்ருர்விஹங்கம: ।
துர்ஜய: கரவீராக்ஷ:
பருஷ: காலகார்முக: ।
மேகமாலீ மஹாமாலீ
ஸர்பாஸ்யோ ருதிராஸந: ।
த்வாதஸைதே மஹாவீர்யா
பலாத்யக்ஷாஸ்ஸஸைநிகா: ।
ராமமேவாப்யதாவந்த
விஸ்ருஜந்தஸ்ஸரோத்தமாந் ॥
ēvamuktvā kharaḥ kruddhō
rāmamēvābhidudruvē ।
ṡyēnagāmī pṛthugrīvō
yajñaṡatrurvihaṅgamaḥ ।
durjayaḥ karavīrākṣaḥ
paruṣaḥ kālakārmukaḥ ।
mēghamālī mahāmālī
sarpāsyō rudhirāṡanaḥ ।
dvādaṡaitē mahāvīryā
balādhyakṣāssasainikāḥ ।
rāmamēvābhyadhāvanta
visṛjantaṡṡarōttamān ॥
Having thus ordered them,
Khara himself dashed towards
Rāma in a great rage.
The twelve mighty strong leaders of the army,
Ṡyēnagāmi, Pṛthugreeva, Yajñaṡatru, Vihaṅgama,
Durjaya, Karaveerāksha, Parusha, Kālakārmuka
Mēghamāli, Mahāmāli, Sarpāsya, Rudhirāṡana
rushed towards Rāma, letting off arrows.
3.26.29 தத: பாவகஸங்காஸை:
ஹேமவஜ்ரவிபூஷிதை: ।
ஜகாந ஸேஷம் தேஜஸ்வீ
தஸ்ய ஸைந்யஸ்ய ஸாயகை: ॥
tataḥ pāvakasaṅkāṡaiḥ
hēmavajravibhūṣitaiḥ ।
jaghāna ṡēṣaṃ tējasvī
tasya sainyasya sāyakaiḥ ॥
Thereupon that radiant one
destroyed the remnants of that army
with arrows that blazed like fire
and were decked with gold and diamonds.
3.26.30 தே ருக்மபுங்கா விஸிகா:
ஸதூமா இவ பாவகா: ।
நிஜக்நுஸ்தாநி ரக்ஷாம்ஸி
வஜ்ரா இவ மஹாத்ருமாந் ॥
tē rukmapuṅkhā viṡikhāḥ
sadhūmā iva pāvakāḥ ।
nijaghnustāni rakṣāṃsi
vajrā iva mahādrumān ॥
Those arrows with golden rings
that were like fire with billowing smoke
killed all those Rākshasas
like a thunderbolt would giant trees.
3.26.31 ரக்ஷஸாம் து ஸதம் ராம:
ஸதேநைகேந கர்ணிநாம் ।
ஸஹஸ்ரம் ச ஸஹஸ்ரேண
ஜகாந ரணமூர்தநி ॥
rakṣasāṃ tu ṡataṃ rāmaḥ
ṡatēnaikēna karṇinām ।
sahasraṃ ca sahasrēṇa
jaghāna raṇamūrdhani ॥
Rāma, in that battle field
killed a hundred of them with
a hundred ear-shaped arrows
and a thousand of them with a thousand.
3.26.32 தைர்பிந்நவர்மாபரணா:
சிந்நபிந்ந ஸராஸநா: ।
நிபேதுஸ்ஸோணிதாதிக்தா
தரண்யாம் ரஜநீசரா: ॥
tairbhinnavarmābharaṇāḥ
chinnabhinna ṡarāsanāḥ ।
nipētuṡṡōṇitādigdhā
dharaṇyāṃ rajanīcarāḥ ॥
Those night-rovers fell down on the ground
stained in blood, their armors and ornaments shattered
and their bows broken and smashed.
3.26.33 தைர்முக்தகேஸைஸ்ஸமரே
பதிதைஸ்ஸோணிதோக்ஷிதை: ।
ஆஸ்தீர்ணா வஸுதா க்ருத்ஸ்நா
மஹாவேதி: குஸைரிவ ॥
tairmuktakēṡaissamarē
patitaiṡṡōṇitōkṣitaiḥ ।
āstīrṇā vasudhā kṛtsnā
mahāvēdiḥ kuṡairiva ॥
The entire earth was covered with those
fallen in the battle, their hair disheveled
and bodies drenched in blood
resembling a Vēdi covered by Kuṡa grass.
3.26.34 க்ஷணேந து மஹாகோரம்
வநம் நிஹதராக்ஷஸம் ।
பபூவ நிரயப்ரக்யம்
மாம்ஸஸோணிதகர்தமம் ॥
kṣaṇēna tu mahāghōraṃ
vanaṃ nihatarākṣasam ।
babhūva nirayaprakhyaṃ
māṃsaṡōṇitakardamam ॥
That Vana became absolutely terrible in an instant,
miry with the flesh and gore of
the Rākshasas that were slain.
3.26.35 சதுர்தஸ ஸஹஸ்ராணி
ரக்ஷஸாம் பீமகர்மணாம் ।
ஹதாந்யேகேந ராமேண
மாநுஷேண பதாதிநா ॥
caturdaṡa sahasrāṇi
rakṣasāṃ bhīmakarmaṇām ।
hatānyēkēna rāmēṇa
mānuṣēṇa padātinā ॥
Fourteen thousand Rākshasas
of terrible deeds were killed by
Rāma, a mere human on foot, single handedly.
3.26.36 தஸ்ய ஸைந்யஸ்ய ஸர்வஸ்ய
கரஸ்ஸேஷோ மஹாரத: ।
ராக்ஷஸஸ்த்ரிஸிராஸ்சைவ
ராமஸ்ச ரிபுஸூதந: ॥
tasya sainyasya sarvasya
kharaṡṡēṣō mahārathaḥ ।
rākṣasastriṡirāṡcaiva
rāmaṡca ripusūdanaḥ ॥
The only ones remaining there were
Rāma the slayer of the foe and
Khara the great charioter
and Triṡira, a Rākshasa
from among the entire army.
3.26.37 ஸேஷா ஹதா மஹாஸத்வா
ராக்ஷஸா ரணமூர்தநி ।
கோரா துர்விஷஹா: ஸர்வே
லக்ஷ்மணஸ்யாக்ரஜேந தே ॥
ṡēṣā hatā mahāsatvā
rākṣasā raṇamūrdhani ।
ghōrā durviṣahāḥ sarvē
lakṣmaṇasyāgrajēna tē ॥
Everyone else from among the Rākshasas
who were mighty strong and terrible to bear with
were killed in that battle
by the elder brother of Lakshmaṇa.
3.26.38 ததஸ்து தத்பீமபலம் மஹாஹவே ।
ஸமீக்ஷ்ய ராமேண ஹதம் பலீயஸா ।
ரதேந ராமம் மஹதா கரஸ்ததா ।
ஸமாஸஸாதேந்த்ர இவோத்யதாஸநி: ॥
tatastu tadbhīmabalaṃ mahāhavē ।
samīkṣya rāmēṇa hataṃ balīyasā ।
rathēna rāmaṃ mahatā kharastadā ।
samāsasādēndra ivōdyatāṡaniḥ ॥
Then, seeing that mighty army killed
in that great battle by Rāma's prowess,
Khara advanced in his imposing chariot against Rāma,
like Indra with the thunderbolt raised in his hand.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே ஷங்விம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē ṣaṅviṃṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the twenty sixth Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
