3.42.20b-21 மநோஹரம் தர்ஸநீயம்
ரூபம் க்ருத்வா ஸ ராக்ஷஸ: ।
ப்ரலோபநார்தம் வைதேஹ்யா
நாநாதாதுவிசித்ரிதம் ।
விசரந்கச்சதே தஸ்மாத்
ஸாத்வலாநி ஸமந்தத: ॥
manōharaṃ darṡanīyam
rūpaṃ kṛtvā sa rākṣasaḥ ।
pralōbhanārthaṃ vaidēhyā
nānādhātuvicitritam ।
vicarangacchatē tasmāt
ṡādvalāni samantataḥ ॥
Taking an enticing and captivating form
with assorted hues of all minerals and gems
to lure Vaidēhi, he went from there,
darting all over the green swards.
3.42.22 ரூப்யைர்பிந்துஸதைஸ்சித்ரோ
பூத்வா ஸ ப்ரியதர்ஸந: ।
விடபீநாம் கிஸலயாந்
பங்த்க்வாऽதந்விசசார ஹ ॥
rūpyairbinduṡataiṡcitrō
bhūtvā sa priyadarṡanaḥ ।
viṭapīnāṃ kisalayān
bhaṅtkvā'danvicacāra ha ॥
Taking a very attractive form,
with hundreds of striking silvery spots,
he moved about, browsing
the new shoots on the trees.
3.42.23 கதலீக்ருஹகம் கத்வா
கர்ணிகாராநிதஸ்தத: ।
ஸமாஸ்ரயந்மந்தகதி:
ஸீதாஸந்தர்ஸநம் ததா ॥
kadalīgṛhakaṃ gatvā
karṇikārānitastataḥ ।
samāṡrayanmandagatiḥ
sītāsandarṡanaṃ tathā ॥
Going to the banana groves and
sauntering along the Karṇikāra trees,
he moved slowly where Seetā might see him.
3.42.24 ராஜீவசித்ரப்ருஷ்டஸ்ஸ
விரராஜ மஹாம்ருக: ।
ராமாஸ்ரமபதாப்யாஸே
விசசார யதாஸுகம் ॥
rājīvacitrapṛṣṭhassa
virarāja mahāmṛgaḥ ।
rāmāṡramapadābhyāṡē
vicacāra yathāsukham ॥
That majestic beast, its back shining
with the lovely tints of lotus,
loitered merrily near Rama’s Āṡrama grounds.
3.42.25 புநர்கத்வா நிவ்ருத்தஸ்ச
விசசார ம்ருகோத்தம: ।
கத்வா முஹூர்தம் த்வரயா
புந: ப்ரதிநிவர்ததே ॥
punargatvā nivṛttaṡca
vicacāra mṛgōttamaḥ ।
gatvā muhūrtaṃ tvarayā
punaḥ pratinivartatē ॥
That best of the beasts loitered,
going back and forth, again and again.
He would go off only for a moment
and then return in a great hurry again.
3.42.26 விக்ரீடம்ஸ்ச க்வசித்பூமௌ
புநரேவ நிஷீததி ।
ஆஸ்ரமத்வாரமாகம்ய
ம்ருகயூதாநி கச்சதி ॥
vikrīḍaṃṡca kvacidbhūmau
punarēva niṣīdati ।
āṡramadvāramāgamya
mṛgayūthāni gacchati ॥
It would play (for a while) and then
squat on the ground somewhere.
Going up to the entrance of the Āṡrama,
it would join the herd of other deer.
3.42.27 ம்ருகயூதைரநுகத:
புநரேவ நிவர்ததே ।
ஸீதாதர்ஸநமாகாம்க்ஷந்
ராக்ஷஸோ ம்ருகதாம் கத: ।
பரிப்ரமதி சித்ராணி
மண்டலாநி விநிஷ்பதந் ॥
mṛgayūthairanugataḥ
punarēva nivartatē ।
sītādarṡanamākāṃkṣan
rākṣasō mṛgatāṃ gataḥ ।
paribhramati citrāṇi
maṇḍalāni viniṣpatan ॥
Masquerading as a deer, the Rākshasa,
wishing to get Seetā’s attention,
would follow the herd of other deer and then return.
He would take a sudden leap
and twirl around in amazing patterns.
3.42.28 ஸமுத்வீக்ஷ்ய ச தே ஸர்வே
ம்ருகா ஹ்யந்யே வநேசரா: ।
உபாகம்ய ஸமாக்ராய
வித்ரவந்தி திஸோ தஸ ॥
samudvīkṣya ca tē sarvē
mṛgā hyanyē vanēcarāḥ ।
upāgamya samāghrāya
vidravanti diṡō daṡa ॥
All other beasts that roamed the Vana
became curious, came near, sniffed and
then fled away in all the ten directions.
3.42.29 ராக்ஷஸஸ்ஸோऽபி தாந்வந்யாந்
ம்ருகாந்ம்ருகவதே ரத: ।
ப்ரச்சாதநார்தம் பாவஸ்ய
ந பக்ஷயதி ஸம்ஸ்ப்ருஸந் ॥
rākṣasassō'pi tānvanyān
mṛgānmṛgavadhē rataḥ ।
pracchādanārthaṃ bhāvasya
na bhakṣayati saṃspṛṡan ॥
And the Rākshasa, who would
have taken delight in killing
those beasts of the Vana,
would touch but not devour them,
to hide his true nature.
3.42.30 தஸ்மிந்நேவ தத: காலே
வைதேஹீ ஸுபலோசநா ।
குஸுமாவசயவ்யக்ரா
பாதபாநப்யவர்தத ॥
tasminnēva tataḥ kālē
vaidēhī ṡubhalōcanā ।
kusumāvacayavyagrā
pādapānabhyavartata ॥
Right at that moment Vaidēhi of lovely eyes
came out to pluck flowers from the trees.
3.42.31 கர்ணிகாராநஸோகாம்ஸ்ச
சூதாம்ஸ்ச மதிரேக்ஷணா ।
குஸுமாந்யவசிந்வந்தீ
சசார ருசிராநநா ॥
karṇikārānaṡōkāṃṡca
cūtāṃṡca madirēkṣaṇā ।
kusumānyavacinvantī
cacāra rucirānanā ॥
She of enchanting looks and charming face
went around seeking Karṇikāra, Aṡōka and mango
trees, plucking flowers.
3.42.32 அநர்ஹாऽரண்யவாஸஸ்ய
ஸா தம் ரத்நமயம் ம்ருகம் ।
முக்தாமணி விசித்ராங்கம்
ததர்ஸ பரமாங்கநா ॥
anarhā'raṇyavāsasya
sā taṃ ratnamayaṃ mṛgam ।
muktāmaṇi vicitrāṅgam
dadarṡa paramāṅganā ॥
That woman of extreme feminine delicacy,
for whom the forest was no fit place of residence,
saw the deer whose limbs seemed to be
brilliantly wrought with jewels, pearls and gems.
3.42.33 ஸா தம் ருசிரதந்தோஷ்டீ
ரூப்யதாதுதநூருஹம் ।
விஸ்மயோத்புல்லநயநா
ஸஸ்நேஹம் ஸமுதைக்ஷத ॥
sā taṃ ruciradantōṣṭhī
rūpyadhātutanūruham ।
vismayōtphullanayanā
sasnēhaṃ samudaikṣata ॥
She of beautiful teeth and lips,
her eyes widened in amazement,
glanced at the deer whose hair had the
hues of silver and every other mineral.
3.42.34 ஸ ச தாம் ராமதயிதாம்
பஸ்யந்மாயாமயோ ம்ருக: ।
விசசார புநஸ்சித்ரம்
தீபயந்நிவ தத்வநம் ॥
sa ca tāṃ rāmadayitām
paṡyanmāyāmayō mṛgaḥ ।
vicacāra punaṡcitram
dīpayanniva tadvanam ॥
And that magic deer,
on seeing Rama’s wife,
darted around seductively again,
lighting up that Vana.
3.42.35 அத்ருஷ்டபூர்வம் தம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
நாநாரத்நமயம் ம்ருகம் ।
விஸ்மயம் பரமம் ஸீதா
ஜகாம ஜநகாத்மஜா ॥
adṛṣṭapūrvaṃ taṃ dṛṣṭvā
nānāratnamayaṃ mṛgam ।
vismayaṃ paramaṃ sītā
jagāma janakātmajā ॥
And Seetā, Janaka’s daughter,
was wonderstruck on seeing the deer
that seemed to be a mass of gems of every kind,
the like of which she had never seen before.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே த்விசத்வாரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க:.
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē dvicatvāriṃṡassargaḥ.
Thus concludes the forty second Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
