சாருநேத்ரே விலாஸிநி ।
மநோ ஹரஸி மே காந்தே
நதீ கூலமிவாம்பஸா ।
கராந்தமிதமத்யாஸி
ஸுகேஸீ ஸம்ஹதஸ்தநீ ॥
cārusmitē cārudati
cārunētrē vilāsini ।
manō harasi mē kāntē
nadī kūlamivāmbhasā ।
karāntamitamadhyāsi
sukēṡī saṃhatastanī ॥
O gorgeous one! You have a
lovely smile, lovely teeth and lovely eyes.
O winsome one, you have stolen my heart
like a river ravishes its banks with its waters.
O you of lovely hair!
Your breasts snuggle up to each other and
your waist can be measured with a fist!
3.46.22 நைவ தேவீ ந கந்தர்வீ
ந யக்ஷீ ந ச கிந்நரீ ।
நைவம்ரூபா மயா நாரீ
த்ருஷ்டபூர்வா மஹீதலே ॥
naiva dēvī na gandharvī
na yakṣī na ca kinnarī ।
naivaṃrūpā mayā nārī
dṛṣṭapūrvā mahītalē ॥
I have seen neither a woman,
nor a goddess, nor a Gandharvee,
nor a Yakshee, nor a Kinnaree,
who has figure like yours,
on the face of the earth.
3.46.23 ரூபமக்ர்யம் ச லோகேஷு
ஸௌகுமார்யம் வயஸ்சதே ।
இஹ வாஸஸ்ச காந்தாரே
சித்தமுந்மாதயந்தி மே ॥
rūpamagryaṃ ca lōkēṣu
saukumāryaṃ vayaṡcatē ।
iha vāsaṡca kāntārē
cittamunmādayanti mē ॥
With your beauty, the rarest in the world,
your delicacy and your youthfulness,
it worries me that you should
live in a forest (like this).
3.46.24 ஸா ப்ரதிக்ராம பத்ரம் தே
நைவம் வஸ்துமிஹார்ஹஸி ।
ராக்ஷஸாநாமயம் வாஸோ
கோராணாம் காமரூபிணாம் ॥
sā pratikrāma bhadraṃ tē
naivaṃ vastumihārhasi ।
rākṣasānāmayaṃ vāsō
ghōrāṇāṃ kāmarūpiṇām ॥
Given all of that, you should not
live like this here,
where the dreaded Rākshasas
who can take any form at will, live.
You should get away and
may all bode well for you.
3.46.25 ப்ராஸாதாக்ராணி ரம்யாணி
நகரோபவநாநி ச ।
ஸம்பந்நாநி ஸுகந்தீநி
யுக்தாந்யாசரிதும் த்வயா ॥
prāsādāgrāṇi ramyāṇi
nagarōpavanāni ca ।
sampannāni sugandhīni
yuktānyācarituṃ tvayā ॥
The places that are right for you
are the top stories of tall mansions
and the beautiful, opulent and
fragrant parks of the cities.
3.46.26 வரம் மால்யம் வரம் போஜ்யம்
வரம் வஸ்த்ரம் ச ஸோபநே ।
பர்தாரம் ச வரம் மந்யே
த்வத்யுக்தமஸிதேக்ஷணே ॥
varaṃ mālyaṃ varaṃ bhōjyam
varaṃ vastraṃ ca ṡōbhanē ।
bhartāraṃ ca varaṃ manyē
tvadyuktamasitēkṣaṇē ॥
You deserve the best of garlands,
best of foods and best of clothes,
and the best of husbands too,
O gorgeous one, with coal-black eyes!
3.46.27 கா த்வம் பவஸி ருத்ராணாம்
மருதாம் வா வராநநே ।
வஸூநாம் வா வராரோஹே
தேவதா ப்ரதிபாஸி மே ॥
kā tvaṃ bhavasi rudrāṇām
marutāṃ vā varānanē ।
vasūnāṃ vā varārōhē
dēvatā pratibhāsi mē ॥
O you of best countenance and best Kaṭee!
Who are you? Whom do you belong to -
Maruts, Vasus, or Rudras?
You look like a Dēvata to me!
3.46.28 நேஹ கச்சந்தி கந்தர்வா
ந தேவா ந ச கிந்நரா: ।
ராக்ஷஸாநாமயம் வாஸ:
கதம் நு த்வமிஹாகதா ॥
nēha gacchanti gandharvā
na dēvā na ca kinnarāḥ ।
rākṣasānāmayaṃ vāsaḥ
kathaṃ nu tvamihāgatā ॥
But the Gandharvas do not come here,
neither do the Dēvas, nor the Kinnaras.
This is the abode of the Rākshasas;
how then did you come to be here?
3.46.29 இஹ ஸாகாம்ருகாஸ்ஸிம்ஹா
த்வீபிவ்யாக்ரம்ருகாஸ்ததா ।
ருக்ஷாஸ்தரக்ஷவ: கங்கா:
கதம் தேப்யோ ந பிப்யஸி ॥
iha ṡākhāmṛgāssiṃhā
dvīpivyāghramṛgāstathā ।
ṛkṣāstarakṣavaḥ kaṅkāḥ
kathaṃ tēbhyō na bibhyasi ॥
Monkeys, lions, leopards, panthers,
bears, tigers and vultures abound here;
how is it that you are not afraid of them?
3.46.30 மதாந்விதாநாம் கோராணாம்
குஞ்ஜராணாம் தரஸ்விநாம் ।
கதமேகா மஹாரண்யே
ந பிபேஷி வராநநே ॥
madānvitānāṃ ghōrāṇām
kuñjarāṇāṃ tarasvinām ।
kathamēkā mahāraṇyē
na bibhēṣi varānanē ॥
O you of best countenance!
How come you are not afraid,
being alone in this great forest,
of the swift, terrible and
giant elephants that are in rut!
3.46.31 காஸி கஸ்ய குதஸ்சித்த்வம்
கிம் நிமித்தம் ச தண்டகாந் ।
ஏகா சரஸி கல்யாணி
கோராந்ராக்ஷஸஸேவிதாந் ॥
kāsi kasya kutaṡcittvam
kiṃ nimittaṃ ca daṇḍakān ।
ēkā carasi kalyāṇi
ghōrānrākṣasasēvitān ॥
Who are you, to whom do you belong,
and where do you come from?
O auspicious one!
Why are you here alone,
in the dreaded Daṇḍaka that
is frequented by the Rākshasas?
3.46.32 இதி ப்ரஸஸ்தா வைதேஹீ
ராவணேந துராத்மநா ।
த்விஜாதிவேஷேண ஹி தம்
த்ருஷ்ட்வா ராவணமாகதம் ।
ஸர்வைரதிதிஸத்காரை:
பூஜயாமாஸ மைதிலீ ॥
iti praṡastā vaidēhī
rāvaṇēna durātmanā ।
dvijātivēṣēṇa hi tam
dṛṣṭvā rāvaṇamāgatam ।
sarvairatithisatkāraiḥ
pūjayāmāsa maithilī ॥
Thus praised by the evil-minded Rāvaṇa,
Vaidēhi, the princess of Mithilā,
seeing only the Brāhmaṇa form in which he had came,
attended on him with all honors due to a guest.
3.46.33 உபநீயாஸநம் பூர்வம்
பாத்யேநாபிநிமந்த்ர்ய ச ।
அப்ரவீத்ஸித்தமித்யேவ
ததா தம் ஸௌம்யதர்ஸநம் ॥
upanīyāsanaṃ pūrvam
pādyēnābhinimantrya ca ।
abravītsiddhamityēva
tadā taṃ saumyadarṡanam ॥
After offering him a seat,
and sprinkling water on his feet,
she said to him, who looked so gentle,
that it (food) was ready.
3.46.34 த்விஜாதிவேஷேண ஸமீக்ஷ்ய மைதிலீ
ஸமாகதம் பாத்ரகுஸும்பதாரிணம் ।
அஸக்யமுத்வேஷ்டுமபாயதர்ஸநம்
ந்யமந்த்ரயத்ப்ராஹ்மணவத்ததாங்கநா ॥
dvijātivēṣēṇa samīkṣya maithilī
samāgataṃ pātrakusumbhadhāriṇam ।
aṡakyamudvēṣṭumapāyadarṡanam
nyamantrayadbrāhmaṇavattadāṅganā ॥
Maithili, seeing him come in the form of a Brāhmaṇa
complete with a (begging) bowl and robes of ochre,
finding no reason to turn him down,
offered hospitality to the one with evil intentions.
3.46.35 இயம் ப்ருஸீ ப்ராஹ்மண காமமாஸ்யதாம்
இதம் ச பாத்யம் ப்ரதிக்ருஹ்யதாமிதி ।
இதம் ச ஸித்தம் வநஜாதமுத்தமம்
த்வதர்தமவ்யக்ரமிஹோபபுஜ்யதாம் ॥
iyaṃ bṛsī brāhmaṇa kāmamāsyatām
idaṃ ca pādyaṃ pratigṛhyatāmiti ।
idaṃ ca siddhaṃ vanajātamuttamaṃ
tvadarthamavyagramihōpabhujyatām ॥
O Brāhmaṇa! Here is your seat
and may you be seated comfortably.
Here is water for you to wash your feet
and may you accept it.
Here is the best food
made from the products of Vana.
May you enjoy it in a relaxed manner!
3.46.36 நிமந்த்ர்யமாண: ப்ரதிபூர்ணபாஷிணீம்
நரேந்த்ரபத்நீம் ப்ரஸமீக்ஷ்ய மைதிலீம் ।
ப்ரஸஹ்ய தஸ்யாஹரணே த்ருதம் மந:
ஸமர்பயத்ஸ்வாத்மவதாய ராவண: ॥
nimantryamāṇaḥ pratipūrṇabhāṣiṇīṃ
narēndrapatnīṃ prasamīkṣya maithilīm ।
prasahya tasyāharaṇē dhṛtaṃ manaḥ
samarpayatsvātmavadhāya rāvaṇaḥ ॥
Taking a good look at Maithili,
the wife of the lord of the people,
who was talking with all her heart while serving,
Rāvaṇa, sealing his own doom,
set his mind on abducting her forcibly.
3.46.37 தத: ஸுவேஷம் ம்ருகயாகதம் பதிம்
ப்ரதீக்ஷமாணா ஸஹலக்ஷ்மணம் ததா ।
விவீக்ஷமாணா ஹரிதம் ததர்ஸ தத்
மஹத்வநம் நைவ து ராமலக்ஷ்ணௌ ॥
tataḥ suvēṣaṃ mṛgayāgataṃ patiṃ
pratīkṣamāṇā sahalakṣmaṇaṃ tadā ।
vivīkṣamāṇā haritaṃ dadarṡa tat
mahadvanaṃ naiva tu rāmalakṣṇau ॥
Then, waiting for her husband
of charming form who went hunting,
to return along with Lakshmaṇa,
she scanned the greenery of that great Vana,
but did not see Rāma or Lakshmaṇa.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே ஷட்சத்வாரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē ṣaṭcatvāriṃṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the forty sixth Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
