Aranya Kaanda - Sarga 49

Aranya Kaanda - Sarga 49
In this Sarga, Rāvaṇa, unperturbed by the warnings of Seetā, again boasts about his valor and prowess. He then gives up his mendicant form and shows his original terrifying form with all his ten heads.
He taunts Seetā for her devotion to Rāma and tells her that he alone is a worthy husband for her. Then he grabs her with his two hands and places her on his lap and on the chariot, which then rises into the air.
Seetā wails and pleads with every creature in the Vana, with the river Gōdāvarī , with the mount Prasravaṇa, and with all the Dēvatas of the Vana, to convey to Rāma that she has been carried off by Rāvaṇa.
Then she sees Jaṭāyu perched on the tree and tells him also to convey everything as it happened to Rāma and Lakshmaṇa. She also cautions Jaṭāyu that Rāvaṇa is too strong to be restrained by him.

Threatening her with his
strident voice and harsh words,
he grabbed Vaidēhi onto his lap
and got her on to the chariot. As has been warned by Rāma (Ayōdhyā Kāṇḍa, Sargas 28), the Vana proved to be a dreadful place.
Seetā is facing this terrible fate for the second time, of being grabbed by a Rākshasa on to his lap. The first time she faced this was when Virādha grabbed her (3.2.10a) as soon as they entered the Daṇḍaka Araṇya.
