.54.16b-17a யா ச வக்ஷ்யதி வைதேஹீம்
வசநம் கிஞ்சிதப்ரியம் ।
அஜ்ஞாநாத்யதி வா ஜ்ஞாநாந்
ந தஸ்யா ஜீவிதம் ப்ரியம் ॥
yā ca vakṣyati vaidēhīm
vacanaṃ kiñcidapriyam ।
ajñānādyadi vā jñānān
na tasyā jīvitaṃ priyam ॥
Only she who does not hold her life dear enough
shall dare utter a word, knowingly or unknowingly,
that would be unpleasant to Vaidēhi.
3.54.17b-18 ததோக்த்வா ராக்ஷஸீஸ்தாஸ்து
ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ர: ப்ரதாபவாந் ।
நிஷ்க்ரம்யாந்த: புராத்தஸ்மாத்
கிம்க்ருத்யமிதி சிந்தயந் ।
ததர்ஸாஷ்டௌ மஹாவீர்யாந்
ராக்ஷஸாந்பிஸிதாஸநாந் ॥
tathōktvā rākṣasīstāstu
rākṣasēndraḥ pratāpavān ।
niṣkramyāntaḥ purāttasmāt
kiṃkṛtyamiti cintayan ।
dadarṡāṣṭau mahāvīryān
rākṣasānpiṡitāṡanān ॥
Ordering those Rākshasis thus,
the valorous lord of Rākshasas
left the inner quarters
thinking of what was to be done (next).
Then he saw eight ghoul-faced Rākshasas
of mighty prowess, who fed on human flesh.
3.54.19 ஸ தாந்த்ருஷ்ட்வா மஹாவீர்யோ
வரதாநேந மோஹித: ।
உவாசைதாநிதம் வாக்யம்
ப்ரஸஸ்ய பலவீர்யத: ॥
sa tāndṛṣṭvā mahāvīryō
varadānēna mōhitaḥ ।
uvācaitānidaṃ vākyam
praṡasya balavīryataḥ ॥
Seeing them, and getting carried away
by the boons he was granted (earlier),
he of great valor said to them,
praising their valor and strength:
3.54.20 நாநாப்ரஹரணா: க்ஷிப்ரம்
இதோ கச்சத ஸத்வரா: ।
ஜநஸ்தாநம் ஹதஸ்தாநம்
பூதபூர்வம் கராலயம் ॥
nānāpraharaṇāḥ kṣipram
itō gacchata satvarāḥ ।
janasthānaṃ hatasthānam
bhūtapūrvaṃ kharālayam ॥
Go immediately and swiftly,
arming yourselves with every kind of weapon,
to Janasthāna, the region of Khara,
where the massacre occurred.
3.54.21 தத்ரோஷ்யதாம் ஜநஸ்தாநே
ஸூந்யே நிஹதராக்ஷஸே ।
பௌருஷம் பலமாஸ்ரித்ய
த்ராஸமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய தூரத: ॥
tatrōṣyatāṃ janasthānē
ṡūnyē nihatarākṣasē ।
pauruṣaṃ balamāṡritya
trāsamutsṛjya dūrataḥ ॥
And remain there, in that Janasthāna
which is deserted with the Rākshasas slain,
relying on your own bravery and strength,
and leaving any kind of fear far behind you.
3.54.22 பலம் ஹி ஸுமஹத்யந்மே
ஜநஸ்தாநே நிவேஸிதம் ।
ஸதூஷணகரம் யுத்தே
ஹதம் ராமேண ஸாயகை: ॥
balaṃ hi sumahadyanmē
janasthānē nivēṡitam ।
sadūṣaṇakharaṃ yuddhē
hataṃ rāmēṇa sāyakaiḥ ॥
Whatever army I had stationed in Janasthāna,
including Khara and Dūshaṇa,
was destroyed by the arrows of Rāma in battle.
3.54.23 தத: க்ரோதோ மமாபூர்வோ
தைர்யஸ்யோபரி வர்ததே ।
வைரம் ச ஸுமஹஜ்ஜாதம்
ராமம் ப்ரதி ஸுதாருணம் ॥
tataḥ krōdhō mamāpūrvō
dhairyasyōpari vartatē ।
vairaṃ ca sumahajjātam
rāmaṃ prati sudāruṇam ॥
Because of that I am incensed as never before,
beyond even my courage.
A great and implacable enmity
has engendered itself (in me) against Rāma.
3.54.24 நிர்யாதயிதுமிச்சாமி
தச்ச வைரமஹம் ரிபோ: ।
ந ஹி லப்ஸ்யாம்யஹம் நித்ராம்
அஹத்வா ஸம்யுகே ரிபும் ॥
niryātayitumicchāmi
tacca vairamahaṃ ripōḥ ।
na hi lapsyāmyahaṃ nidrām
ahatvā saṃyugē ripum ॥
I shall take my revenge on the foe.
I shall not get a wink of sleep
till I slay my enemy in battle.
3.54.25 தம் த்விதாநீமஹம் ஹத்வா
கரதூஷணகாதிநம் ।
ராமம் ஸர்மோபலப்ஸ்யாமி
தநம் லப்த்வேவ நிர்தந: ॥
taṃ tvidānīmahaṃ hatvā
kharadūṣaṇaghātinam ।
rāmaṃ ṡarmōpalapsyāmi
dhanaṃ labdhvēva nirdhanaḥ ॥
I shall find comfort only after
killing Rāma who killed Khara and Dūshaṇa,
like a pauper who gained riches.
3.54.26 ஜநஸ்தாநே வஸத்பிஸ்து
பவத்பீராமமாஸ்ரிதா ।
ப்ரவ்ருத்திருபநேதவ்யா
கிஞ்கரோதீதி தத்த்வத: ॥
janasthānē vasadbhistu
bhavadbhīrāmamāṡritā ।
pravṛttirupanētavyā
kiñkarōtīti tattvataḥ ॥
Living in Janasthāna and keeping a watch on Rāma,
you should inform me of what happens there
and what he does, exactly as it is.
3.54.27 அப்ரமாதாச்ச கந்தவ்யம்
ஸர்வைரபி நிஸாசரை: ।
கர்தவ்யஸ்ச ஸதா யத்நோ
ராகவஸ்ய வதம் ப்ரதி ॥
apramādācca gantavyam
sarvairapi niṡācaraiḥ ।
kartavyaṡca sadā yatnō
rāghavasya vadhaṃ prati ॥
All of you, night rovers,
should move about in full alert.
You must always look for
an opportunity to kill Rāghava.
3.54.28 யுஷ்மாகம் ச பலஜ்ஞோऽஹம்
பஹுஸோ ரணமூர்தநி ।
அதஸ்சாஸ்மிந் ஜநஸ்தாநே
மயா யூயம் நியோஜிதா: ॥
yuṣmākaṃ ca balajñō'ham
bahuṡō raṇamūrdhani ।
ataṡcāsmin janasthānē
mayā yūyaṃ niyōjitāḥ ॥
I know your strength from many a battle (before).
That is why I have chosen to deploy you in Janasthāna.
3.54.29 தத: ப்ரியம் வாக்யமுபேத்ய ராக்ஷஸா
மஹார்தமஷ்டாவபிவாத்ய ராவணம் ।
விஹாய லங்காம் ஸஹிதா: ப்ரதஸ்திரே
யதோ ஜநஸ்தாநமலக்ஷ்யதர்ஸநா: ॥
tataḥ priyaṃ vākyamupētya rākṣasā
mahārthamaṣṭāvabhivādya rāvaṇam ।
vihāya laṅkāṃ sahitāḥ pratasthirē
yatō janasthānamalakṣyadarṡanāḥ ॥
The eight Rākshasas, hearing those pregnant words,
and pleased with his commendation,
saluted him and then, together,
left Laṅkā for Janasthāna
without being seen by anyone.
3.54.30 ததஸ்து ஸீதாமுபலப்ய ராவண:
ஸுஸம்ப்ரஹ்ருஷ்ட: பரிக்ருஹ்ய மைதிலீம் ।
ப்ரஸஜ்ய ராமேண ச வைரமுத்தமம்
பபூவ மோஹாந்முதிதஸ்ஸராக்ஷஸ: ॥
tatastu sītāmupalabhya rāvaṇaḥ
susamprahṛṣṭaḥ parigṛhya maithilīm ।
prasajya rāmēṇa ca vairamuttamaṃ
babhūva mōhānmuditassarākṣasaḥ ॥
Rāvaṇa felt very happy having
Seetā, the princess of Mithilā,
in his possession, after thus securing her.
Having earned the dreaded enmity of Rāma,
in his delusion, the Rākshasa felt very joyous.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே சது:பஞ்சாஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē catuḥpañcāṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the fifty fourth Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
