Why do some tamil brahmin families keep their grandparents name to their children?

    Kind regards,

I don't think, there could be any specific reason for naming the children after their grand parents. And this is not specific among the Tamil Brahmins alone. This is followed by people belonging to
Nagarathar, Nadar, and others as well. One reason could be to remind their line of heritage.

      Sri:
I don't know whether this is the reason for naming but there is a great use by doing like that in vaideeka rituals.
3 generations of names are required for doing shradham and some times 4 generations names are required while doing sapindikaranam.
Mostly in now a days people are not aware of the names of their two generations of pitrus.
We are using this logic to complete the karma by assuming the names of their forefathers,
but unfortunately recently the above useful naming custom is not followed by many.
