    Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 30
    In this Sarga, Rāma is worried about the condition of Seetā and feels dejected about his own fate and his dependency on the pleasure of Sugreeva.
    Meanwhile Lakshmaṇa who had gone in search of fruit returns and feels terrible seeing his brother in such a state, sitting alone lamenting his fate. He then tries to cheer his brother up reminding him of his great prowess and the task ahead.
    Rāma, upon hearing the motivating words of Lakshmaṇa, recovers from his doleful mood. He sees that the monsoon season has passed and the season of Ṡarat has arrived. He is outraged as he sees no sign of Sugreeva, even though it is already the season for the first waves of war expeditions.
    Rāma then tells Lakshmaṇa to go to Kishkindhā and deliver his warning that Sugreeva better keep his promise or be ready to be sent to the abode of Yama and meet his brother Vāli, struck by his arrows.
    4.30.1-3 குஹம் ப்ரவிஷ்டே ஸுக்ரீவே
    விமுக்தே ககநே கநை: ।
    வர்ஷராத்ரேஸ்திதோ ராம:
    காமஸோகாபிபீடித: ॥
    பாண்டுரம் ககநம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
    விமலம் சந்த்ரமண்டலம் ।
    ஸாரதீம் ரஜநீம் சைவ
    த்ருஷ்ட்வா ஜ்யோத்ஸ்நாநுலேபநாம் ॥
    காமவ்ருத்தம் ச ஸுக்ரீவம்
    நஷ்டாம் ச ஜநகாத்மஜாம் ।
    த்ருஷ்ட்வா காலமதீதம் ச
    முமோஹ பரமாதுர: ॥
    guhaṃ praviṣṭē sugrīvē
    vimuktē gaganē ghanaiḥ ।
    varṣarātrēsthitō rāmaḥ
    kāmaṡōkābhipīḍitaḥ ॥
    pāṇḍuraṃ gaganaṃ dṛṣṭvā
    vimalaṃ candramaṇḍalam ।
    ṡāradīṃ rajanīṃ caiva
    dṛṣṭvā jyōtsnānulēpanām ॥
    kāmavṛttaṃ ca sugrīvam
    naṣṭāṃ ca janakātmajām ।
    dṛṣṭvā kālamatītaṃ ca
    mumōha paramāturaḥ ॥
    In a while, after Sugreeva entered the cave-city,
    the sky became clear of rain clouds.
    Rāma, who had lived through many nights of rain
    scorched by grief as well as the pangs of love
    (finally) saw the clear sky of the season of Ṡarat
    whose nights were coated by the moonlight.
    He fell into a swoon seeing
    Sugreeva indulged in dalliance
    while Seetā was lost and time was slipping by.
    4.30.4 ஸ து ஸம்ஜ்ஞாமுபாகம்ய
    முஹூர்தாந்மதிமாந்புந: ।
    மநஸ்ஸ்தாமபி வைதேஹீம்
    சிந்தயாமாஸ ராகவ: ॥
    sa tu saṃjñāmupāgamya
    muhūrtānmatimānpunaḥ ।
    manassthāmapi vaidēhīm
    cintayāmāsa rāghavaḥ ॥
    Then the sagacious Rāghava, the king,
    recovered himself in a Muhūrta
    and started worrying about Vaidēhi,
    whose thoughts occupied his mind constantly.
    4.30.5 த்ருஷ்ட்வா ச விமலம் வ்யோம
    கதவித்யுத்வலாஹகம் ।
    ஸாரஸாராவஸங்குஷ்டம்
    விலலாபாऽऽர்தயா கிரா ॥
    dṛṣṭvā ca vimalaṃ vyōma
    gatavidyudvalāhakam ।
    sārasārāvasaṅghuṣṭham
    vilalāpā''rtayā girā ॥
    Seeing the sky become clear from clouds and lightning
    and filled with the cries of Sārasa birds,
    he started lamenting in a pitiful voice.
    4.30.6 ஆஸீந: பர்வதஸ்யாக்ரே
    ஹேமதாதுவிபூஷிதே ।
    ஸாரதம் ககநம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
    ஜகாம மநஸா ப்ரியாம் ॥
    āsīnaḥ parvatasyāgrē
    hēmadhātuvibhūṣitē ।
    ṡāradaṃ gaganaṃ dṛṣṭvā
    jagāma manasā priyām ॥
    Rāma’s mind, as he sat on the top of the mountain
    that was adorned with rifts of gold ore
    seeing the sky of Ṡarat,
    became filled with the thoughts of his beloved.
    4.30.7 ஸாரஸாராவஸந்நாதை:
    ஸாரஸாரவநாதிநீ ।
    யாऽऽஸ்ரமே ரமதே பாலா
    ஸாऽத்ய மே ரமதே கதம் ॥
    sārasārāvasannādaiḥ
    sārasāravanādinī ।
    yā''ṡramē ramatē bālā
    sā'dya mē ramatē katham ॥
    I wonder what she, the young one,
    with a voice like that of Sārasas,
    who used to enjoy the cries of Sārasas
    along with me in the Āṡrama, is doing now!
    4.30.8 புஷ்பிதாம்ஸ்சாஸநாந் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
    காஞ்சநாநிவ நிர்மலாந் ।
    கதம் ஸா ரமதே பாலா
    பஸ்யந்தீ மாமபஸ்யதீ ॥
    puṣpitāṃṡcāsanān dṛṣṭvā
    kāñcanāniva nirmalān ।
    kathaṃ sā ramatē bālā
    paṡyantī māmapaṡyatī ॥
    How is she, my young love, able to hold herself
    watching the sight of gold-bright flowers of the Āsana trees
    while she waits for me without seeing a sign of me!
    4.30.9 யா புரா கலஹம்ஸாநாம்
    ஸ்வரேண கலபாஷிணீ ।
    புத்யதே சாருஸர்வாங்கீ
    ஸாऽத்ய மே ரமதே கதம் ॥
    yā purā kalahaṃsānām
    svarēṇa kalabhāṣiṇī ।
    budhyatē cārusarvāṅgī
    sā'dya mē ramatē katham ॥
    How is she, my beloved, of beautiful figure
    who always spoke sweetly
    and used to be woken up by the
    dulcet notes of the sweet-throated swans
    able to manage herself?
    4.30.10 நிஸ்வநம் சக்ரவாகாநாம்
    நிஸம்ய ஸஹசாரிணாம் ।
    புண்டரீகவிஸாலாக்ஷீ
    கதமேஷா பவிஷ்யதி ॥
    nisvanaṃ cakravākānām
    niṡamya sahacāriṇām ।
    puṇḍarīkaviṡālākṣī
    kathamēṣā bhaviṣyati ॥
    How would she, of eyes wide like lotus petals,
    be able to manage herself hearing the
    cries of Cakravākas that move in pairs?
    4.30.11 ஸராம்ஸி ஸரிதோ வாபீ:
    காநநாநி வநாநி ச ।
    தாம் விநா ம்ருகஸாபாக்ஷீம்
    சரந்நாத்ய ஸுகம் லபே ॥
    sarāṃsi saritō vāpīḥ
    kānanāni vanāni ca ।
    tāṃ vinā mṛgaṡābākṣīm
    carannādya sukhaṃ labhē ॥
    I find no joy at all
    wandering among the lakes and rivers and pools,
    and among the forests and the woods,
    without her of the fawn-eyes (by my side).
    4.30.12 அபி தாம் மத்வியோகாச்ச
    ஸௌகுமார்யாச்ச பாமிநீம் ।
    ஸுதூரம் பீடயேத்காம:
    ஸரத்குணநிரந்தர: ॥
    api tāṃ madviyōgācca
    saukumāryācca bhāminīm ।
    sudūraṃ pīḍayētkāmaḥ
    ṡaradguṇanirantaraḥ ॥
    The god of love would surely torment her,
    the beautiful and delicate lady,
    with the abundant pleasantries of the Ṡarat,
    especially as she suffers from being away from me?
    4.30.13 ஏவமாதி நரஸ்ரேஷ்டோ
    விலலாப ந்ருபாத்மஜ: ।
    விஹங்க இவ ஸாரங்க:
    ஸலிலம் த்ரிதஸேஸ்வராத் ॥
    ēvamādi naraṡrēṣṭhō
    vilalāpa nṛpātmajaḥ ।
    vihaṅga iva sāraṅgaḥ
    salilaṃ tridaṡēṡvarāt ॥
    That best of men, the prince,
    lamented in these strains
    like the Cātaka does while waiting
    for water from the Lord of Dēvas. Cātaka birds drink only rain water as it falls from the sky.
    4.30.14 ததஸ்சஞ்சூர்ய ரம்யேஷு
    பலார்தீ கிரிஸாநுஷு ।
    ததர்ஸ பர்யுபாவ்ருத்தோ
    லக்ஷ்மீவாந்லக்ஷ்மணோऽக்ரஜம் ॥
    tataṡcañcūrya ramyēṣu
    phalārthī girisānuṣu ।
    dadarṡa paryupāvṛttō
    lakṣmīvānlakṣmaṇō'grajam ॥
    Lakshmaṇa of auspicious marks,
    as he returned after searching for fruits
    on the beautiful mountain sides,
    saw his elder brother in this state.
    4.30.15 தம் சிந்தயா துஸ்ஸஹயா பரீதம்
    விஸம்ஜ்ஞமேகம் விஜநே மநஸ்வீ ।
    ப்ராதுர்விஷாதாத்த்வரிதோऽதிதீந:
    ஸமீக்ஷ்ய ஸௌமித்ரிருவாச ராமம் ॥
    taṃ cintayā dussahayā parītaṃ
    visaṃjñamēkaṃ vijanē manasvī ।
    bhrāturviṣādāttvaritō'tidīnaḥ
    samīkṣya saumitriruvāca rāmam ॥
    Sowmitri saw Rāma sitting alone with no one around
    overwhelmed by unbearable sorrow.
    Feeling terrible and taking pity upon
    seeing his brother’s grief, he spoke anxiously:
    4.30.16 கிமார்ய காமஸ்ய வஸம்கதேந
    கிமாத்மபௌருஷ்யபராபவேந ।
    அயம் ஹ்ரியா ஸம்ஹ்ரியதே ஸமாதி:
    கிமத்ர யோகேந நிவர்திதேந ॥
    kimārya kāmasya vaṡaṃgatēna
    kimātmapauruṣyaparābhavēna ।
    ayaṃ hriyā saṃhriyatē samādhiḥ
    kimatra yōgēna nivartitēna ॥
    O noble one, of what use is it
    to cave in to the pangs of love?
    Of what use is it to undermine your prowess?
    Shaming oneself would only take away one’s focus.
    And, of what use is it to turn away from your object?
    4.30.17 க்ரியாபியோகம் மநஸ: ப்ரஸாதம்
    ஸமாதியோகாநுகதம் ச காலம் ।
    ஸஹாயஸாமர்த்யமதீநஸத்த்வ:
    ஸ்வகர்ம ஹேதும் ச குருஷ்வ ஹேதும் ॥
    kriyābhiyōgaṃ manasaḥ prasādaṃ
    samādhiyōgānugataṃ ca kālam ।
    sahāyasāmarthyamadīnasattva:
    svakarma hētuṃ ca kuruṣva hētum ॥
    Cheer up your mind. Focus on the task.
    Let every moment serve your purpose.
    Give up the despondency and count
    on the capabilities of allies and
    the skills that are uniquely your own.
    4.30.18 ந ஜாநகீ மாநவ வம்ஸநாத
    த்வயா ஸநாதா ஸுலபா பரேண ।
    ந சாக்நிசூடாம் ஜ்வலிதாமுபேத்ய
    ந தஹ்யதே வீர வரார்ஹ கஸ்சித் ॥
    na jānakī mānava vaṃṡanātha
    tvayā sanāthā sulabhā parēṇa ।
    na cāgnicūḍāṃ jvalitāmupētya
    na dahyatē vīra varārha kaṡcit ॥
    O Veera! O lord of the race of Manu!
    O you who deserves the best of everything!
    Janaki, with you for protector,
    cannot be appropriated by anyone else.
    Can one touch a blazing tongue of flame
    without burning oneself?
    4.30.19 ஸலக்ஷணம் லக்ஷ்மணமப்ரத்ருஷ்யம்
    ஸ்வபாவஜம் வாக்யமுவாச ராம: ।
    ஹிதம் ச பத்யம் ச நயப்ரஸக்தம்
    ஸஸாம தர்மார்தஸமாஹிதம் ச ॥
    salakṣaṇaṃ lakṣmaṇamapradhṛṣyaṃ
    svabhāvajaṃ vākyamuvāca rāmaḥ ।
    hitaṃ ca pathyaṃ ca nayaprasaktaṃ
    sasāma dharmārthasamāhitaṃ ca ॥
    Rāma then spoke to Lakshmaṇa of auspicious marks,
    words that mirrored his true nature and
    words that could not be argued with,
    words that bode well for the future,
    words that made sense under the given situation,
    and words that were in accordance with
    Dharma, Artha, polity and reason:
    4.30.20 நிஸ்ஸம்ஸயம் கார்யமவேக்ஷிதவ்யம்
    க்ரியாவிஸேஷோऽஹ்யநுவர்திதவ்ய: ।
    நநு ப்ரவ்ருத்தஸ்ய துராஸதஸ்ய
    குமார கார்யஸ்ய பலம் ச சிந்த்யம் ॥
    nissaṃṡayaṃ kāryamavēkṣitavyaṃ
    kriyāviṡēṣō'hyanuvartitavyaḥ ।
    nanu pravṛddhasya durāsadasya
    kumāra kāryasya phalaṃ ca cintyam ॥
    Without doubt the task needs focus.
    Each and every step needs to be (carefully) coordinated.
    My dear, the favorable as well as adversarial factors
    and the outcomes as well as fallouts
    should be given deep consideration.
    4.30.21 அத பத்மபலாஸாக்ஷீம்
    மைதிலீமநுசிந்தயந் ।
    உவாச லக்ஷ்மணம் ராமோ
    முகேந பரிஸுஷ்யதா ॥
    atha padmapalāṡākṣīm
    maithilīmanucintayan ।
    uvāca lakṣmaṇaṃ rāmō
    mukhēna pariṡuṣyatā ॥
    Rāma went on, with these words,
    his face dried up and
    thinking of Maithili of lotus-petal eyes:
    4.30.22 தர்பயித்வா ஸஹஸ்ராக்ஷ:
    ஸலிலேந வஸுந்தராம் ।
    நிர்வர்தயித்வா ஸஸ்யாநி
    க்ருதகர்மா வ்யவஸ்தித: ॥
    tarpayitvā sahasrākṣaḥ
    salilēna vasundharām ।
    nirvartayitvā sasyāni
    kṛtakarmā vyavasthitaḥ ॥
    The Thousand-eyed, having satiated the earth with water
    and making new vegetation take sprout,
    rests well content, his work done.
    4.30.23 தீர்ககம்பீரநிர்கோஷா:
    ஸைலத்ருமபுரோகமா: ।
    விஸ்ருஜ்ய ஸலிலம் மேகா:
    பரிஸ்ராந்தா ந்ருபாத்மஜ ॥
    dīrghagambhīranirghōṣāḥ
    ṡailadrumapurōgamāḥ ।
    visṛjya salilaṃ mēghāḥ
    pariṡrāntā nṛpātmaja ॥
    The clouds that majestically rumbled for long,
    passing by the mountains and trees,
    have retired now, O prince,
    having emptied their loads of water.
    4.30.24 நீலோத்பலதலஸ்யாமா:
    ஸ்யாமீக்ருத்வா திஸோ தஸ ।
    விமதா இவ மாதங்க:
    ஸாந்தவேகா: பயோதரா: ॥
    nīlōtpaladalaṡyāmāḥ
    ṡyāmīkṛtvā diṡō daṡa ।
    vimadā iva mātaṅgaḥ
    ṡāntavēgāḥ payōdharāḥ ॥
    The clouds that were dark as the
    petals of the black lotuses
    spreading darkness in all ten directions,
    have slowed down now, like
    elephants that are no more in rut.
    4.30.25 ஜலகர்பா மஹாமேகா
    குடஜார்ஜுநகந்திந: ।
    சரித்வா விரதாஸ்ஸௌம்ய
    வ்ருஷ்டிவாதாஸ்ஸமுத்யதா: ॥
    jalagarbhā mahāmēghā
    kuṭajārjunagandhinaḥ ।
    caritvā viratāssaumya
    vṛṣṭivātāssamudyatāḥ ॥
    The great clouds with loads of water
    and the rainy winds carrying the
    fragrance of Kuṭaja and Arjuna flowers,
    have retired, my dear, having done their rounds.
    4.30.26 கநாநாம் வாரணாநாம் ச
    மயூராணாம் ச லக்ஷ்மண ।
    நாத: ப்ரஸ்ரவணாநாம் ச
    ப்ரஸாந்தஸ்ஸஹஸாऽநக ॥
    ghanānāṃ vāraṇānāṃ ca
    mayūrāṇāṃ ca lakṣmaṇa ।
    nādaḥ prasravaṇānāṃ ca
    praṡāntassahasā'nagha ॥
    O Lakshmaṇa, O flawless one!
    The sounds of clouds, elephants, peacocks
    and the streams have calmed down pretty quickly.
    4.30.27 அபிவ்ருஷ்டா மஹாமேகை:
    நிர்மலாஸ்சித்ரஸாநவ: ।
    அநுலிப்தா இவாऽபாந்தி
    கிரயஸ்சந்த்ரரஸ்மிபி: ॥
    abhivṛṣṭā mahāmēghaiḥ
    nirmalāṡcitrasānavaḥ ।
    anuliptā ivā'bhānti
    girayaṡcandraraṡmibhiḥ ॥
    The mountains, with their beautiful crests,
    washed clean by the great clouds,
    look as if they are coated with the rays of the moon.
    4.30.28 ஸாகாஸு ஸப்தச்சதபாதபாநாம்
    ப்ரபாஸு தாரார்கநிஸாகராணாம் ।
    லீலாஸு சைவோத்தம வாரணாநாம்
    ஸ்ரியம் விபஜ்யாத்ய ஸரத்ப்ரவ்ருத்தா ॥
    ṡākhāsu saptacchadapādapānām
    prabhāsu tārārkaniṡākarāṇām ।
    līlāsu caivōttama vāraṇānāṃ
    ṡriyaṃ vibhajyādya ṡaratpravṛttā ॥
    Ṡarat has commenced by bestowing her largesse
    among the boughs of the Saptaparṇa trees,
    among the splendor of stars, sun and moon,
    and among the gambols of great elephants.
