    In this Sarga, Sugreeva wonders why Lakshmaṇa is angry while he had not done anything wrong. He wonders whether his enemies had relayed made-up stories about him to Lakshmaṇa. He says that he can never hope to requite Rāma for the favor he has done. He asks his ministers for counsel.
    Hanuman then counsels Sugreeva saying that Rāghava cannot be found at fault for being angry, as he sees that Sugreeva is not ready for the expedition, even though the season of Ṡarat has arrived.
    Hanuman suggests firmly that Sugreeva should go to Lakshmaṇa and prostrate to him and regain his pleasure.
    4.32.1 அங்கதஸ்ய வசஸ்ஸ்ருத்வா
    ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ஸசிவைஸ்ஸஹ ।
    லக்ஷ்மணம் குபிதம் ஸ்ருத்வா
    முமோசாஸநமாத்மவாந் ॥
    aṅgadasya vacaṡṡrutvā
    sugrīvassacivaissaha ।
    lakṣmaṇaṃ kupitaṃ ṡrutvā
    mumōcāsanamātmavān ॥
    Sugreeva, a man of integrity, got up from his seat
    when he, along with his ministers,
    heard from Aṅgada that Lakshmaṇa was angry.
    4.32.2 ஸ ச தாநப்ரவீத்வாக்யம்
    நிஸ்சித்ய குருலாகவம் ।
    மந்த்ரஜ்ஞாந்மந்த்ரகுஸலோ
    மந்த்ரேஷு பரிநிஷ்டித: ॥
    sa ca tānabravīdvākyam
    niṡcitya gurulāghavam ।
    mantrajñānmantrakuṡalō
    mantrēṣu pariniṣṭhitaḥ ॥
    He, who was skilled in strategy
    and steady in his deliberations
    then assessed the good and bad
    and spoke to them who were adept at strategies:
    4.32.3 ந மே துர்வ்யாஹ்ருதம் கிஞ்சித்
    நாபி மே துரநுஷ்டிதம் ।
    லக்ஷ்மணோ ராகவப்ராதா
    க்ருத்த: கிமிதி சிந்தயே ॥
    na mē durvyāhṛtaṃ kiñcit
    nāpi mē duranuṣṭhitam ।
    lakṣmaṇō rāghavabhrātā
    kruddhaḥ kimiti cintayē ॥
    Neither did I say nor did I do anything wrong.
    I wonder why Lakshmana, the brother of Rāghava, is angry.
    4.32.4 அஸுஹ்ருத்பிர்மமாமித்ரை:
    நித்யமந்தரதர்ஸிபி: ।
    மம தோஷாநஸம்பூதாந்
    ஸ்ராவிதோ ராகவாநுஜ: ॥
    asuhṛdbhirmamāmitraiḥ
    nityamantaradarṡibhiḥ ।
    mama dōṣānasambhūtān
    ṡrāvitō rāghavānujaḥ ॥
    My enemies, always in search of an opportunity,
    lacking even basic decency,
    would have relayed made-up stories about me
    to the younger brother of Rāghava.
    4.32.5 அத்ர தாவத்யதாபுத்தி
    ஸர்வைரேவ யதாவிதி ।
    பாவஸ்ய நிஸ்சயஸ்தாவத்
    விஜ்ஞேயோ நிபுணம் ஸநை: ॥
    atra tāvadyathābuddhi
    sarvairēva yathāvidhi ।
    bhāvasya niṡcayastāvat
    vijñēyō nipuṇaṃ ṡanaiḥ ॥
    You should decide carefully,
    to the best of your abilities,
    the most appropriate thing
    to be done in this matter.
    4.32.6 ந கல்வஸ்தி மம த்ராஸோ
    லக்ஷ்மணாந்நாபி ராகவாத் ।
    மித்ரம் த்வஸ்தாநகுபிதம்
    ஜநயத்யேவ ஸம்ப்ரமம் ॥
    na khalvasti mama trāsō
    lakṣmaṇānnāpi rāghavāt ।
    mitraṃ tvasthānakupitam
    janayatyēva sambhramam ॥
    It is not that I fear Lakshmaṇa, or even Rāghava.
    But the wrath of a (good) friend,
    with no ground whatsoever for it,
    is bound to raise concern, does it not?
    4.32.7 ஸர்வதா ஸுகரம் மித்ரம்
    துஷ்கரம் பரிபாலநம் ।
    அநித்யத்வாத்து சித்தாநாம்
    ப்ரீதிரல்பேऽபி பித்யதே ॥
    sarvathā sukaraṃ mitram
    duṣkaraṃ paripālanam ।
    anityatvāttu cittānām
    prītiralpē'pi bhidyatē ॥
    There are many easy ways to make friends.
    But it is not so easy to keep them.
    Human nature being fickle,
    friendships collapse even for trivial reasons.

    4.32.8 அதோ நிமித்தம் த்ரஸ்தோऽஹம்
    ராமேண து மஹாத்மநா ।
    யந்மயோபக்ருதம் ஸக்யம்
    ப்ரதிகர்தும் ந தந்மயா ॥
    atō nimittaṃ trastō'ham
    rāmēṇa tu mahātmanā ।
    yanmayōpakṛtaṃ ṡakyam
    pratikartuṃ na tanmayā ॥
    This is what I am scared about.
    I can never hope to requite Mahātma Rāma
    for the favor he has done for me.
    4.32.9 ஸுக்ரீவேணைவமுக்தே து
    ஹநுமாந்ஹரிபுங்கவ: ।
    உவாச ஸ்வேந தர்கேண
    மத்யே வாநரமந்த்ரிணாம் ॥
    sugrīvēṇaivamuktē tu
    hanumānharipuṅgavaḥ ।
    uvāca svēna tarkēṇa
    madhyē vānaramantriṇām ॥
    When Sugreeva said this,
    Hanuman, a bull among Vānaras,
    put forward his thoughts
    in the presence of all the ministers:
    4.32.10 ஸர்வதா நைததாஸ்சர்யம்
    யஸ்த்வம் ஹரிகணேஸ்வர ।
    ந விஸ்மரஸி ஸுஸ்நிக்தம்
    உபகாரம் க்ருதம் ஸுபம் ॥
    sarvathā naitadāṡcaryam
    yastvaṃ harigaṇēṡvara ।
    na vismarasi susnigdham
    upakāraṃ kṛtaṃ ṡubham ॥
    O lord of Vānara hosts!
    There is no surprise at all that you
    have not forgotten the signal service
    done to you out of friendship.
    4.32.11 ராகவேண து வீரேண
    பயமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய தூரத: ।
    த்வத்ப்ரியார்தம் ஹதோ வாலீ
    ஸக்ரதுல்யபராக்ரம: ॥
    rāghavēṇa tu vīrēṇa
    bhayamutsṛjya dūrataḥ ।
    tvatpriyārthaṃ hatō vālī
    ṡakratulyaparākramaḥ ॥
    Rāghava, the Veera, with no fear whatsoever,
    killed Vāli of prowess equivalent to that of Ṡakra,
    just to please you.
    4.32.12 ஸர்வதா ப்ரணயாத்க்ருத்தோ
    ராகவோ நாத்ர ஸம்ஸய: ।
    ப்ராதரம் ஸம்ப்ரஹிதவாந்
    லக்ஷ்மணம் லக்ஷ்மிவர்தநம் ॥
    sarvathā praṇayātkṛddhō
    rāghavō nātra saṃṡayaḥ ।
    bhrātaraṃ samprahitavān
    lakṣmaṇaṃ lakṣmivardhanam ॥
    I do not think it is because of
    lack of love that Rāghava is angry
    or that he has sent his brother Lakshmana,
    the augmenter of prosperity.
    4.32.13 த்வம் ப்ரமத்தோ ந ஜாநீஷே
    காலம் காலவிதாம் வர ।
    புல்லஸப்தச்சதஸ்யாமா
    ப்ரவ்ருத்தா து ஸரச்சுபா ॥
    tvaṃ pramattō na jānīṣē
    kālaṃ kālavidāṃ vara ।
    phullasaptacchadaṡyāmā
    pravṛttā tu ṡaracchubhā ॥
    Though you are the foremost among
    those who have a great sense of time,
    you did not notice the passing of time
    and the arrival of Ṡarat, with the
    dark-tinted sheen of the Saptaparṇa trees in bloom,
    having sunk in a lull.
    4.32.14 நிர்மலக்ரஹநக்ஷத்ரா
    த்யௌ: ப்ரநஷ்டவலாஹகா ।
    ப்ரஸந்நாஸ்ச திஸஸ்ஸர்வா:
    ஸரிதஸ்ச ஸராம்ஸி ச ॥
    nirmalagrahanakṣatrā
    dyauḥ pranaṣṭavalāhakā ।
    prasannāṡca diṡassarvāḥ
    saritaṡca sarāṃsi ca ॥
    With the clouds receding,
    the sky is clear (glistening) with stars and planets.
    The streams, the lakes and all the cardinals
    are (calm, clear and) pleasant.
    4.32.15 ப்ராப்தமுத்யோககாலம் து
    நாவைஷி ஹரிபுங்கவ ।
    த்வம் ப்ரமத்த இதி வ்யக்தம்
    லக்ஷ்மணோऽயமிஹாகத: ॥
    prāptamudyōgakālaṃ tu
    nāvaiṣi haripuṅgava ।
    tvaṃ pramatta iti vyaktam
    lakṣmaṇō'yamihāgataḥ ॥
    O bull among Vānaras! You have not realized that
    the season for expeditions has arrived.
    Your negligence was clear and
    that is why Lakshmaṇa has come here.
    4.32.16 ஆர்தஸ்ய ஹ்ருததாரஸ்ய
    புருஷம் புருஷாந்தராத் ।
    வசநம் மர்ஷணீயம் தே
    ராகவஸ்ய மஹாத்மந: ॥
    ārtasya hṛtadārasya
    puruṣaṃ puruṣāntarāt ।
    vacanaṃ marṣaṇīyaṃ tē
    rāghavasya mahātmanaḥ ॥
    You should give a patient ear to the word of Rāghava,
    distraught at the loss of his wife,
    that he has sent through a third person,
    which might well be harsh.
    4.32.17 க்ருதாபராதஸ்ய ஹி தே
    நாந்யத்பஸ்யாம்யஹம் க்ஷமம் ।
    அந்தரேணாஞ்ஜலிம் பத்த்வா
    லக்ஷ்மணஸ்ய ப்ரஸாதநாத் ॥
    kṛtāparādhasya hi tē
    nānyatpaṡyāmyahaṃ kṣamam ।
    antarēṇāñjaliṃ baddhvā
    lakṣmaṇasya prasādanāt ॥
    I cannot see what else you can do,
    being guilty of committing a lapse
    than plead for the grace of Lakshmana,
    with your palms joined in reverence.
    4.32.18 நியுக்தைர்மந்த்ரிபிர்வாச்யோ
    ஹ்யவஸ்யம் பார்திவோ ஹிதம் ।
    அத ஏவ பயம் த்யக்த்வா
    ப்ரவீம்யவத்ருதம் வச: ॥
    niyuktairmantribhirvācyō
    hyavaṡyaṃ pārthivō hitam ।
    ata ēva bhayaṃ tyaktvā
    bravīmyavadhṛtaṃ vacaḥ ॥
    A king would expect only the
    best counsel from the appointed ministers.
    Hence I have expressed my considered opinion fearlessly.
    4.32.19 அபிக்ருத்தஸ்ஸமர்தோ ஹி
    சாபமுத்யம்ய ராகவ: ।
    ஸதேவாஸுரகந்தர்வம்
    வஸே ஸ்தாபயிதும் ஜகத் ॥
    abhikruddhassamarthō hi
    cāpamudyamya rāghavaḥ ।
    sadēvāsuragandharvam
    vaṡē sthāpayituṃ jagat ॥
    Rāghava in his wrath, holding the bow up in his hand,
    is capable of bringing the entire world
    including the Dēvas, Asuras and Gandharvas,
    under his control.
    4.32.20 ந ஸ க்ஷம: கோபயிதும்
    ய: ப்ரஸாத்ய: புநர்பவேத் ।
    பூர்வோபகாரம் ஸ்மரதா
    க்ருதஜ்ஞேந விஸேஷத: ॥
    na sa kṣamaḥ kōpayitum
    yaḥ prasādyaḥ punarbhavēt ।
    pūrvōpakāraṃ smaratā
    kṛtajñēna viṡēṣataḥ ॥
    His wrath should not be stirred,
    rather his pleasure should be regained,
    especially keeping the favor he has done earlier
    in mind and being grateful for it.
    4.32.21 தஸ்ய மூர்த்நா ப்ரணம்ய த்வம்
    ஸபுத்ரஸ்ஸஸுஹ்ருஜ்ஜந: ।
    ராஜம்ஸ்திஷ்டஸ்வ ஸமயே
    பர்துர்பார்யேவ தத்வஸே ॥
    tasya mūrdhnā praṇamya tvam
    saputrassasuhṛjjanaḥ ।
    rājaṃstiṣṭhasva samayē
    bharturbhāryēva tadvaṡē ॥
    O King! Bow your head and prostrate to him
    along with your kith and kin.
    Keep true to your vows and
    be obedient (to him) like a wife to her husband.
    4.32.22 ந ராமராமாநுஜஸாஸநம் த்வயா
    கபீந்த்ர யுக்தம் மநஸாऽப்யபோஹிதும் ।
    மநோ ஹி தே ஜ்ஞாஸ்யதி மாநுஷம் பலம்
    ஸ ராகவஸ்யாஸ்ய ஸுரேந்த்ரவர்சஸ: ॥
    na rāmarāmānujaṡāsanaṃ tvayā
    kapīndra yuktaṃ manasā'pyapōhitum ।
    manō hi tē jñāsyati mānuṣaṃ balaṃ
    sa rāghavasyāsya surēndravarcasaḥ ॥
    You should not, O lord of Vānaras,
    let the idea of flouting the orders of
    Rāma and his younger brother, even enter your mind.
    In your heart of hearts, you are well aware
    of the power of these (two) humans,
    Rāghava’s and his (Lakshmaṇa), whose splendor
    rivals that of the lord of Dēvas.
    இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
    ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
    கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே த்வாத்ரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
    ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
    ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
    kiṣkindhākāṇḍē dvātriṃṡassargaḥ ॥
    Thus concludes the thirty second Sarga
    in Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
    the first ever poem of humankind,
    composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
