    Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 36
In this Sarga, Lakshmaṇa accepts the explanation of Tārā and softens. Sugreeva, feeling comfortable, responds to Lakshmaṇa. He explains how much he is indebted to Rāma for the favor done by him. He praises Rāma’s strength and says that Rāma could take the life of Rāvaṇa by himself, and his own role is merely to assist him. Then he asks for forgiveness for anything he has done overstepping his boundary.
The pleased Lakshmaṇa praises Sugreeva for his gratitude and adherence to Dharma. He says Rāma would feel well supported with Sugreeva helping him. He urges Sugreeva to start immediately along with him to go to Rāma and console him. He asks for the forgiveness of Sugreeva for the harsh words he spoke earlier.
    ityuktastārayā vākyam
    praṡritaṃ dharmasaṃhitam ।
    mṛdusvabhāvassaumitriḥ
    pratijagrāha tadvacaḥ ॥
    Sowmitri’s softened heart accepted the
    respectful explanation of Tārā
that was very much in line with Dharma.
    tasminpratigṛhītē tu
    vākyē harigaṇēṡvaraḥ ।
    lakṣmaṇātsumahattrāsam
    vastraṃ klinnamivātyajat ॥
    With that explanation accepted,
the lord of hordes of Vānaras
cast aside the fear caused by Lakshmaṇa’s rage,
as one would clothes that became wet.
    tataḥ kaṇṭhagataṃ mālyam
    citraṃ bahuguṇaṃ mahat ।
    cicchēda vimadaṡcāsīt
    sugrīvō vānarēṡvaraḥ ॥
Then Sugreeva, the lord of Vānaras,
pulled to pieces the lovely, exquisite,
garland of various hues, casting off the insobriety.
    sa lakṣmaṇaṃ bhīmabalam
    sarvavānarasattamaḥ ।
    abravītpraṡritaṃ vākyam
    sugrīvassampraharṣayan ॥
And Sugreeva, the best among all Vānaras,
said these words with all deference
to Lakshmaṇa of terrific strength, making him happy:
    4.36.5 ப்ரணஷ்டா ஸ்ரீஸ்ச கீர்திஸ்ச
    கபிராஜ்யம் ச ஸாஸ்வதம் ।
    ராமப்ரஸாதாத்ஸௌமித்ரே
    புநஸ்சாப்தமிதம் மயா ॥
    praṇaṣṭā ṡrīṡca kīrtiṡca
    kapirājyaṃ ca ṡāṡvatam ।
    rāmaprasādātsaumitrē
    punaṡcāptamidaṃ mayā ॥
O Sowmitri! I regained this wealth,
stature and the eternal kingdom of Vānaras
    because of Rāma’s grace!
    kaṡṡaktastasya dēvasya
    khyātasya svēna karmaṇā ।
    tādṛṡam pratikurvīta
    aṃṡēvāpi nṛpātmaja ॥
O prince! Who will be able to repay
even a portion of the favor he, the lord,
widely reputed for his extraordinary deeds, did?
    sītāṃ prāpsyati dharmātmā
    vadhiṣyati ca rāvaṇam ।
    sahāyamātrēṇa mayā
    rāghavassvēna tējasā ॥
Rāghava, the Dharmātma, employing his own power
will kill Rāvaṇa and regain Seetā!
I will be nothing but of mere assistance.
    sahāyakṛtyaṃ kiṃ tasya
    yēna sapta mahādrumāḥ ।
    ṡailaṡca vasudhā caiva
    bāṇēnaikēna dāritāḥ ॥
What kind of assistance can be given to one
who tore apart seven Sala trees, a mountain
and the earth itself with a single arrow?
    dhanurviṣphārayāṇasya
    yasya ṡabdēna lakṣmaṇa ।
    saṡailā kampitā bhūmiḥ
sahāyaiḥ kiṃ nu tasya vai ॥
Why would he need any assistance,
O Lakshmaṇa, the twanging of whose bow
shook the earth along with its mountains ?
    anuyātrāṃ narēndrasya
    kariṣyē'haṃ nararṣabha ।
    gacchatō rāvaṇaṃ hantum
    vairiṇaṃ sapurassaram ॥
O bull among men! All I can do is to just follow,
as the lord of men goes ahead with his retainers
    to kill the enemy, Rāvaṇa.
    yadi kiñcidatikrāntam
    viṡvāsātpraṇayēna vā ।
    prēṣyasya kṣamitavyaṃ mē
    na kaṡcinnāparādhyati ॥
If I, your humble servant, have
    overstepped my boundary because of
    friendship or because of confidence,
may I be forgiven; to err is human!
    iti tasya bruvāṇasya
    sugrīvasya mahātmanaḥ ।
    abhavallakṣmaṇaḥ prītaḥ
    prēmṇā cēdamuvāca ha ॥
    With Mahātma Sugreeva saying this,
    Lakshmaṇa became very pleased and
    he said this with affection:
    4.36.13 ஸர்வதா ஹி மம ப்ராதா
    ஸநாதோ வாநரேஸ்வர ।
    த்வயா நாதேந ஸுக்ரீவ

    sarvathā hi mama bhrātā
    sanāthō vānarēṡvara ।
    tvayā nāthēna sugrīva
    praṡritēna viṡēṣataḥ ॥
O Sugreeva! O lord of Vānaras!
With you being there to protect him,
especially in such a humble manner,
my brother has all the protection he could wish for.

    yastē prabhāvassugrīva
    yacca tē ṡaucamārjavam ।
    arhastvaṃ kapirājyasya
    ṡriyaṃ bhōktumanuttamām ॥
O Sugreeva! With your prowess, purity and
straightforwardness, you surely deserve to enjoy
the unequaled luxury of the Vānara kingdom!

    sahāyēna tu sugrīva
    tvayā rāmaḥ pratāpavān ।
    vadhiṣyati raṇē ṡatrūn
    acirānnātra saṃṡayaḥ ॥
Rāma, the valorous one, O Sugreeva,
will kill the enemy in a fight with your help,
not before it is too long, without a doubt.

    saṅgrāmēṣvanivartinaḥ ।
    upapannaṃ ca yuktaṃ ca
    sugrīva tava bhāṣitam ॥
O Sugreeva! The words you spoke
are meaningful and befit a grateful
    and Dharma-knowing person like you,
who never turned your back in a fight!

No other person, except you and my brother,
being as capable as you are,
would ever confess to their own faults.

    You, O bull among Vānaras,
an equal of Rāma in prowess and strength,
are a god-sent help, after a long time.

You should, O Veera, start from here immediately,
to console your friend who is burnt out
by the grief of the abduction of his wife.

    Please forgive, my friend,
my language that you found harsh,
which resulted from my hearing the words
Rāma uttered under the stress of grief.
