4.42.20b-21a கோட்யஸ்தத்ர சதுர்விம்ஸத்
கந்தர்வாணாம் தரஸ்விநாம் ।
வஸந்த்யக்நிநிகாஸாநாம்
கோராணாம் காமரூபிணாம் ॥
kōṭyastatra caturviṃṡat
gandharvāṇāṃ tarasvinām ।
vasantyagninikāṡānām
ghōrāṇāṃ kāmarūpiṇām ॥
There live on it twenty four crores of
terrifying, mighty strong Gandharvas,
who blaze like fire and are
capable of taking any form at will.
4.42.21b-22a பாவகார்சி: ப்ரதீகாஸா:
ஸமவேதாஸ்ஸமந்தத: ।
நாத்யாஸாதயிதவ்யாஸ்தே
வாநரைர்பீமவிக்ரமை: ॥
pāvakārciḥ pratīkāṡāḥ
samavētāssamantataḥ ।
nātyāsādayitavyāstē
vānarairbhīmavikramaiḥ ॥
O Vānaras! As fierce of valor as you are,
you should not attempt to approach them,
who, with their flame-like luster,
congregate everywhere in that place.
4.42.22b-23 நாதேயம் ச பலம் தஸ்மாத்
தேஸாத்கிஞ்சித்ப்லவங்கமை: ।
துராஸதா ஹி தே வீரா:
ஸத்த்வவந்தோ மஹாபலா: ।
பலமூலாநி தே தத்ர
ரக்ஷந்தே பீமவிக்ரமா: ॥
nādēyaṃ ca phalaṃ tasmāt
dēṡātkińcitplavaṅgamaiḥ ।
durāsadā hi tē vīrāḥ
sattvavantō mahābalāḥ ।
phalamūlāni tē tatra
rakṣantē bhīmavikramāḥ ॥
The Vānaras should not take any
fruit whatsoever from that region.
The roots and fruits there are guarded by
those gritty, mighty strong,
unassailable Veeras of fierce prowess.
4.42.24 தத்ர யத்நஸ்ச கர்தவ்யோ
மார்கிதவ்யா ச ஜாநகீ ।
ந ஹி தேப்யோ பயம் கிஞ்சித்
கபித்வமநுவர்ததாம் ॥
tatra yatnaṡca kartavyō
mārgitavyā ca jānakī ।
na hi tēbhyō bhayaṃ kińcit
kapitvamanuvartatām ॥
You should make every effort
to search for Janaki there.
You have nothing to fear from them
if you stick to your monkey behavior.
4.42.25-26 தத்ர வைடூர்யவர்ணாபோ
வஜ்ரஸம்ஸ்தாநஸம்ஸ்தித: ।
நாநாத்ருமலதாகீர்ணோ
வஜ்ரோ நாம மஹாகிரி: ।
ஸ்ரீமாந்ஸமுதிதஸ்தத்ர
யோஜநாநாம் ஸதம் ஸமம் ।
குஹாஸ்தத்ர விசேதவ்யா:
ப்ரயத்நேந ப்லவங்கமா: ॥
tatra vaiḍhūryavarṇābhō
vajrasaṃsthānasaṃsthitaḥ ।
nānādrumalatākīrṇō
vajrō nāma mahāgiriḥ ।
ṡrīmānsamuditastatra
yōjanānāṃ ṡataṃ samam ।
guhāstatra vicētavyāḥ
prayatnēna plavaṅgamāḥ ॥
Beyond lies the great mountain
known as Vajra, of the glitter of lazulite,
and of an adamantine hardness,
overgrown with every kind of tree and creeper.
Vānaras should make every effort to
search that rich mountain which is exactly
one hundred Yōjanas high, including its caves.
4.42.27-28 சதுர்பாகே ஸமுத்ரஸ்ய
சக்ரவாந்நாம பர்வத: ।
தத்ர சக்ரம் ஸஹஸ்ராரம்
நிர்மிதம் விஸ்வகர்மணா ।
தத்ர பஞ்சஜநம் ஹத்வா
ஹயக்ரீவம் ச தாநவம் ।
ஆஜஹார ததஸ்சக்ரம்
ஸங்கம் ச புருஷோத்தம: ॥
caturbhāgē samudrasya
cakravānnāma parvataḥ ।
tatra cakraṃ sahasrāram
nirmitaṃ viṡvakarmaṇā ।
tatra pańcajanaṃ hatvā
hayagrīvaṃ ca dānavam ।
ājahāra tataṡcakram
ṡaṅkhaṃ ca puruṣōttamaḥ ॥
Over there is a mountain called Cakravān
that occupies a fourth of the ocean.
It is there where Viṡwakarma built
the thousand-toothed Cakra.
This is where the Supreme-being (Vishṇu)
killed the Dānavas Pańcajana and Hayagreeva,
and took away the Cakra and Ṡankha from them.
4.42.29 தஸ்ய ஸாநுஷு ரம்யேஷு
விஸாலாஸு குஹாஸு ச ।
ராவணஸ்ஸஹ வைதேஹ்யா
மார்கிதவ்யஸ்ததஸ்தத: ॥
tasya sānuṣu ramyēṣu
viṡālāsu guhāsu ca ।
rāvaṇassaha vaidēhyā
mārgitavyastatastataḥ ॥
Vaidēhi and Rāvaṇa should be searched for
on its beautiful flanks and in its huge caves
and areas around them.
4.42.30 யோஜநாநி சதுஷ்ஷஷ்டி:
வராஹோ நாம பர்வத: ।
ஸுவர்ணஸ்ருங்கஸ்ஸுமஹாந்
அகாதே வருணாலயே ॥
yōjanāni catuṣṣaṣṭiḥ
varāhō nāma parvataḥ ।
suvarṇaṡṛṅgassumahān
agādhē varuṇālayē ॥
Then there is a huge mountain
with golden peaks known as Varāha
that stretches sixty four Yōjanas
into the deep ocean.
4.42.31 தத்ர ப்ராக்ஜ்யோதிஷம் நாம
ஜாதரூபமயம் புரம் ।
யஸ்மிந்வஸதி துஷ்டாத்மா
நரகோ நாம தாநவ: ॥
tatra prāgjyōtiṣaṃ nāma
jātarūpamayaṃ puram ।
yasminvasati duṣṭātmā
narakō nāma dānavaḥ ॥
And then there is the city, all of gold,
known as Prāgjyōtisha in which lives
the evil-minded Asura known as Naraka.
4.42.32 தஸ்ய ஸாநுஷு ரம்யேஷு
விஸாலாஸு குஹாஸு ச ।
ராவணஸ்ஸஹ வைதேஹ்யா
மார்கிதவ்யஸ்ததஸ்தத: ॥
tasya sānuṣu ramyēṣu
viṡālāsu guhāsu ca ।
rāvaṇassaha vaidēhyā
mārgitavyastatastataḥ ॥
Vaidēhi and Rāvaṇa should be searched for

4.42.33 தமதிக்ரம்ய ஸைலேந்த்ரம்
காஞ்சநாந்தரநிர்தரம் ।
பர்வதஸ்ஸர்வஸௌவர்ணோ
தாராப்ரஸ்ரவணாயுத: ॥
tamatikramya ṡailēndram
kāńcanāntaranirdaram ।
parvatassarvasauvarṇō
dhārāprasravaṇāyutaḥ ॥
Beyond that king of mountains
whose caves are all of gold, lies
another mountain which is entirely of gold,
from which flow many cascades and streams.
4.42.34 தம் கஜாஸ்ச வராஹாஸ்ச
ஸிம்ஹ வ்யாக்ராஸ்ச ஸர்வத: ।
அபிகர்ஜந்தி ஸததம்
தேந ஸப்தேந தர்பிதா: ॥
taṃ gajāṡca varāhāṡca
siṃha vyāghrāṡca sarvataḥ ।
abhigarjanti satatam
tēna ṡabdēna darpitāḥ ॥
Elephants, boars, lions and tigers
roar around there all the time,
taking pride in the sounds they make.
4.42.35 யஸ்மிந்ஹரிஹய: ஸ்ரீமாந்
மஹேந்த்ர: பாகஸாஸந: ।
அபிஷிக்த: ஸுரை ராஜா
மேகவாந்நாம பர்வத: ॥
yasminharihayaḥ ṡrīmān
mahēndraḥ pākaṡāsanaḥ ।
abhiṣiktaḥ surai rājā
mēghavānnāma parvataḥ ॥
That mountain, known as Mēghavān,
is where the blessed Mahēndra
who slew Pāka and rode on green horses
was consecrated by the Suras as the king.
4.42.36-37 தமதிக்ரம்ய ஸைலேந்த்ரம்
மஹேந்த்ரபரிபாலிதம் ।
ஷஷ்டி ர்கிரிஸஹஸ்ராணி
காஞ்சநாநி கமிஷ்யத ।
தருணாதித்யவர்ணாநி
ப்ராஜமாநாநி ஸர்வத: ।
ஜாதரூபமயைர்வ்ருக்ஷை
ஸோபிதாநி ஸுபுஷ்பிதை: ॥
tamatikramya ṡailēndram
mahēndraparipālitam ।
ṣaṣṭi rgirisahasrāṇi
kāńcanāni gamiṣyatha ।
taruṇādityavarṇāni
bhrājamānāni sarvataḥ ।
jātarūpamayairvṛkṣai
ṡōbhitāni supuṣpitaiḥ ॥
Passing beyond that mountain protected by Mahēndra,
you will come to a sixty thousand golden hills
that shine like the rising sun from every angle,
adorned by trees in full flower, glistening like gold.
4.42.38 தேஷாம் மத்யே ஸ்திதோ ராஜா
மேருருத்தமபர்வத: ।
ஆதித்யேந ப்ரஸந்நேந
ஸைலோ தத்தவர: புரா ॥
tēṣāṃ madhyē sthitō rājā
mēruruttamaparvataḥ ।
ādityēna prasannēna
ṡailō dattavaraḥ purā ॥
Right in their midst stands
the king of all those mountains,
the great mountain Mēru, which was
blessed with a boon by the sun god.
4.42.39-40 தேநைவமுக்தஸ்ஸைலேந்த்ர:
ஸர்வ ஏவ த்வதாஸ்ரயா: ।
மத்ப்ரஸாதாத்பவிஷ்யந்தி
திவா ராத்ரௌ ச காஞ்சநா: ।
த்வயி யே சாபி வத்ஸ்யந்தி
தேவகந்தர்வதாநவா: ।
தே பவிஷ்யந்தி ரக்தாஸ்ச
ப்ரபயா காஞ்சநப்ரபா: ॥
tēnaivamuktaṡṡailēndraḥ
sarva ēva tvadāṡrayāḥ ।
matprasādādbhaviṣyanti
divā rātrau ca kāńcanāḥ ।
tvayi yē cāpi vatsyanti
dēvagandharvadānavāḥ ।
tē bhaviṣyanti raktāṡca
prabhayā kāńcanaprabhāḥ ॥
That lord of the mountains was told by him:
“I grant that everything that lives on you
will shine like gold, day and night.
The Dēvas, Gandharvas and Dānavas that live on you
will shine with a golden glow and with a red shine”.
4.42.41-42 விஸ்வேதேவாஸ்ச வஸவ:
மருதஸ்ச திவௌகஸ: ।
ஆகம்ய பஸ்சிமாம் ஸந்த்யாம்
மேருமுத்தமபர்வதம் ।
ஆதித்யமுபதிஷ்டந்தி
தைஸ்ச ஸூர்யோऽபிபூஜித: ।
அத்ருஸ்யஸ்ஸர்வபூதாநாம்
அஸ்தம் கச்சதிபர்வதம் ॥
viṡvēdēvāṡca vasavaḥ
marutaṡca divaukasaḥ ।
āgamya paṡcimāṃ sandhyām
mērumuttamaparvatam ।
ādityamupatiṣṭhanti
taiṡca sūryō'bhipūjitaḥ ।
adṛṡyassarvabhūtānām
astaṃ gacchatiparvatam ॥
The Viṡvēdēvas, the Vasus, the Maruts,
and other dwellers of the heavens
come to Mēru, the best of mountains,
at the time of western (evening)
twilight and worship the sun.
The sun, duly worshiped by them,
proceeds to the setting mountain,
going out of sight of all creatures.
