Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 45
In this Sarga, the captains of the Vānaras, set out in the directions assigned to them, boast that each one of them can kill Rāvaṇa single-handedly and bring Seetā back.
Rāma lives, along with Lakshmaṇa, on the Prasravaṇa mountain for the duration of the month that was set for finding Seetā.
4.45.1-2a ஸர்வாம்ஸ்சாஹூய ஸுக்ரீவ:
ப்லவகாந் ப்லவகர்ஷப: ।
ஸமஸ்தாநப்ரவீத்ராஜா
ராமகார்யார்தஸித்தயே ।
ஏவமேதத்விசேதவ்யம்
பவத்பிர்வாநரோத்தமை: ॥
sarvāṃṡcāhūya sugrīvaḥ
plavagān plavagarṣabhaḥ ।
samastānabravīdrājā
rāmakāryārthasiddhayē ।
ēvamētadvicētavyam
bhavadbhirvānarōttamaiḥ ॥
Thus Sugreeva, the bull among Vānaras,
summoned all the Vānaras and told all
those excellent Vānaras that
the search should proceed as instructed
for accomplishing the mission of Rāma.
4.45.2b-3a ததுக்ரஸாஸநம் பர்து:
விஜ்ஞாய ஹரிபுங்கவா: ।
ஸலபா இவ ஸஞ்சாத்ய
மேதிநீம் ஸம்ப்ரதஸ்திரே ॥
tadugraṡāsanaṃ bhartuḥ
vijńāya haripuṅgavāḥ ।
ṡalabhā iva sańchādya
mēdinīṃ sampratasthirē ॥
Understanding the import of that
stern command of their lord,
the bulls among Vānaras started on their quest,
covering the earth like moths.
4.45.3b-4a ராம: ப்ரஸ்ரவணே தஸ்மிந்
ந்யவஸத்ஸஹலக்ஷ்மண: ।
ப்ரதீக்ஷமாணஸ்தம் மாஸம்
யஸ்ஸீதாதிகமே க்ருத: ॥
rāmaḥ prasravaṇē tasmin
nyavasatsahalakṣmaṇaḥ ।
pratīkṣamāṇastaṃ māsam
yassītādhigamē kṛtaḥ ॥
Rāma lived, along with Lakshmaṇa,
on the Prasravaṇa mountain for the
duration of the month that was set for finding Seetā.
4.45.4b-5 உத்தராம் து திஸம் ரம்யாம்
கிரிராஜஸமாவ்ருதாம் ।
ப்ரதஸ்தே ஸஹஸா வீரோ
ஹரிஸ்ஸதபலிஸ்ததா ।
பூர்வாம் திஸம் ப்ரதியயௌ
விநதோ ஹரியூதப: ॥
uttarāṃ tu diṡaṃ ramyām
girirājasamāvṛtām ।
pratasthē sahasā vīrō
hariṡṡatabalistadā ।
pūrvāṃ diṡaṃ pratiyayau
vinatō hariyūthapaḥ ॥
The valiant ape Ṡatabali set out immediately
in the pleasant northerly direction
crowned by the king of mountains.
Vinata, a commander of Vānaras, started for the East.
4.45.6 தாராங்கதாதிஸஹித:
ப்லவங்கோ பவநாத்மஜ: ।
அகத்யாசரிதாமாஸாம்
தக்ஷிணாம் ஹரியூதப: ॥
tārāṅgadādisahitaḥ
plavaṅgō pavanātmajaḥ ।
agatyācaritāmāṡām
dakṣiṇāṃ hariyūthapaḥ ॥
The son of Vāyu, along with many
captains of Vānara forces, like Tāra and Aṅgada
went to the South, where Agastya lived.
4.45.7 பஸ்சிமாம் து ப்ருஸம் கோராம்
ஸுஷேண: ப்லவகோத்தம: ।
ப்ரதஸ்தே ஹரிஸார்தூலோ
திஸம் வருணபாலிதாம் ॥
paṡcimāṃ tu bhṛṡaṃ ghōrām
suṣēṇaḥ plavagōttamaḥ ।
pratasthē hariṡārdūlō
diṡaṃ varuṇapālitām ॥
Sushēṇa, the great tiger among the Vānaras,
went towards the dreaded West guarded by Varuṇa.
4.45.8 ததஸ்ஸர்வா திஸோ ராஜா
சோதயித்வா யதாததம் ।
கபிஸேநாபதீந்வீரோ
முமோத ஸுகிதஸ்ஸுகம் ॥
tatassarvā diṡō rājā
cōdayitvā yathātatham ।
kapisēnāpatīnvīrō
mumōda sukhitassukham ॥
Having thus dispatched all the
captains of the Vānara forces
in every direction as planned,
the king, the Veera, felt relieved,
and enjoyed in relaxation.
4.45.9 ஏவம் ஸம்சோதிதாஸ்ஸர்வே
ராஜ்ஞா வாநரயூதபா: ।
ஸ்வாம் ஸ்வாம் திஸமபிப்ரேத்ய
த்வரிதா ஸம்ப்ரதஸ்திரே ॥
ēvaṃ saṃcōditāssarvē
rājńā vānarayūthapāḥ ।
svāṃ svāṃ diṡamabhiprētya
tvaritā sampratasthirē ॥
Thus sent by the king, the captains of Vānaras
set out in the directions assigned to them, in all haste.
4.45.10 நதந்தஸ்சோந்நதந்தஸ்ச
கர்ஜந்தஸ்ச ப்லவங்கமா: ।
க்ஷ்வேலந்தோ தாவமாநாஸ்ச
விநதந்தோ மஹாபலா: ॥
nadantaṡcōnnadantaṡca
garjantaṡca plavaṅgamāḥ ।
kṣvēlantō dhāvamānāṡca
vinadantō mahābalāḥ ॥
With some of them shouting, some yelling,
some roaring, some howling and
some sounding like thunder,
the Vānaras of great strength went running.
4.45.11 ஏவம் ஸம்சோதிதாஸ்ஸர்வே
ராஜ்ஞா வாநரயூதபா: ।
ஆநயிஷ்யாமஹே ஸீதாம்
ஹநிஷ்யாமஸ்ச ராவணம் ॥
ēvaṃ saṃcōditāssarvē
rājńā vānarayūthapāḥ ।
ānayiṣyāmahē sītām
haniṣyāmaṡca rāvaṇam ॥
The captains of Vānaras, thus sent by the king, declared,
“We will kill Rāvaṇa! We will bring Seetā!”
4.45.12 அஹமேகோ ஹநிஷ்யாமி
ப்ராப்தம் ராவணமாஹவே ।
ததஸ்சோந்மத்ய ஸஹஸா
ஹரிஷ்யே ஜநகாத்மஜாம் ॥
ahamēkō haniṣyāmi
prāptaṃ rāvaṇamāhavē ।
tataṡcōnmathya sahasā
hariṣyē janakātmajām ॥
‘I shall single-handed slay Rāvaṇa,
when I meet him on the battle-field,
hammer all others whom I encounter and
carry back Janaka’s daughter.’
4.45.13 வேபமாநாம் ஸ்ரமேணாத்ய
பவத்பி: ஸ்தீயதாமிதி ।
ஏக ஏவாஹரிஷ்யாமி
பாதாலாதபி ஜாநகீம் ॥
vēpamānāṃ ṡramēṇādya
bhavadbhiḥ sthīyatāmiti ।
ēka ēvāhariṣyāmi
pātālādapi jānakīm ॥
‘I shall fetch back the trembling and exhausted Jānaki,
all by myself, even if she is in the Pātāla;
you can all just stay here.’
4.45.14 விதமிஷ்யாம்யஹம் வ்ருக்ஷாந்
தாரயிஷ்யாம்யஹம் கிரீந் ।
தரணீம் தாரயிஷ்யாமி
க்ஷோபயிஷ்யாமி ஸாகராந் ॥
vidhamiṣyāmyahaṃ vṛkṣān
dārayiṣyāmyahaṃ girīn ।
dharaṇīṃ dārayiṣyāmi
kṣōbhayiṣyāmi sāgarān ॥
‘I shall fling away the trees,
tear down the mountains, tear apart the earth
and set the oceans in a turmoil.’
4.45.15 அஹம் யோஜநஸங்க்யாயா:
ப்லவிதா நாத்ர ஸம்ஸய: ।
ஸதயோஜநஸங்க்யாயா:
ஸதம் ஸமதிகம் ஹ்யஹம் ॥
ahaṃ yōjanasaṅkhyāyāḥ
plavitā nātra saṃṡayaḥ ।
ṡatayōjanasaṅkhyāyāḥ
ṡataṃ samadhikaṃ hyaham ॥
‘I can jump, without a doubt, one hundred Yōjanas.’
‘I can jump more than one hundred Yōjanas.’
4.45.16 பூதலே ஸாகரே வாऽபி
ஸைலேஷு ச வநேஷு ச ।
பாதாலஸ்யாபி வா மத்யே
ந மமாऽऽச்சித்யதே கதி: ॥
bhūtalē sāgarē vā'pi
ṡailēṣu ca vanēṣu ca ।
pātālasyāpi vā madhyē
na mamā''cchidyatē gatiḥ ॥
‘Nothing can stop my movement anywhere,
be it on the earth or in the sea,
in the mountains or the forests,
or even in Pātāla’.
4.45.17 இத்யேகைகஸ்ததா தத்ர
வாநரா பலதர்பிதா: ।
ஊசுஸ்ச வசநம் தத்ர
ஹரிராஜஸ்ய ஸந்நிதௌ ॥
ityēkaikastadā tatra
vānarā baladarpitāḥ ।
ūcuṡca vacanaṃ tatra
harirājasya sannidhau ॥
With their vanity of strength on full display,
thus boasted each one of those Vānaras
in the presence of the lord of Vānaras.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே பஞ்சசத்வாரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
kiṣkindhākāṇḍē pańcacatvāriṃṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the forty fifth Sarga
in Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
