Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 59
In this Sarga, Jāmbavan and other Vānaras, happy to hear the news of Seetā from Sampāti ask him for more details. Sampāti then tells them that his son Supārṡwa, while hovering on the Mahēndra mountain searching for prey, happened to see Rāvaṇa carrying off Seetā.
He tells them that though he is old and has no wings, he can still help them by using his words and intellect. He tells them to make a resolve to go after Rāvaṇa without any delay.

tē vacaḥ plavagarṣabhāḥ ॥
Hearing those words spoken by the king of eagles,
which were as sweet as Amṛt,
those bulls among Vānaras felt happy, and rejoiced.

Jāmbavan, foremost of the Vānaras,
springing to his feet along with
the rest of the Vānaras, asked the king of eagles:

Where is Seetā? By whom was she seen?
Who is he who abducted Maithili?

arrows of the son of Daṡaratha
that strike with the speed of Vajra
and to the power of the arrows
shot by Lakshmaṇa himself?

And he, pleased to see the Vānaras
retract from fasting unto death
and their eagerness to hear about Seetā,
consoled them again and said these words:

Listen and I will tell you about the
abduction of Seetā of wide eyes
as I heard it and from whom I heard.

I have been lying here for long
on this impenetrable mountain
that is many Yōjanas long,
being old and having lost my power and energy.

My son, prominent among birds,
known by name as Supārṡwa,
has been taking care of me,
who has been in this sorry plight,
by bringing food regularly.

tīkṣṇakāmāstu gandharvāḥ
tīkṣṇakōpā bhujaṅgamāḥ ।
mṛgāṇāṃ tu bhayaṃ tīkṣṇam
tatastīkṣṇakṣudhā vayam ॥
Gandharvas are extremely lascivious,
snakes are exceedingly irascible,
deer are extremely timorous
and we are even more extremely ravenous.

mamāhārābhikāṅkṣiṇaḥ ।
gatasūryē'hani prāptō
mama putrō hyanāmiṣaḥ ॥
One day, my son came without food
late in the day after the sun had set
while I was hungry and eagerly waiting for food.

I, suffering from lack of food,
was harsh with him, who
actually is a source of joy.
Then he respectfully told
me what exactly had happened.

O father! I flew into the sky
at the usual time in quest of meat
and was hovering over with full attention
over the Mahēndra mountain range.

I hovered there looking down to singlehandedly
block the thousands of creatures that
were moving about in the ocean.

Then I saw someone who was like
a piece broken off from a mound of collyrium
taking with him a woman of
the luster of the morning sun.

tau dṛṣṭvā kṛtaniṡcayaḥ ।
tēna sāmnā vinītēna
panthānamabhiyācitaḥ ॥
Upon seeing them, I resolved to
to have them for food.
But then he begged me to let him go,
humbly and persuasively.

ப்ரஹர்தா வித்யதே க்வசித் ।

prahartā vidyatē kvacit ।
nīcēṣvapi janaḥ kaṡcit
kimaṅga bata madvidhaḥ ॥
Nobody, not even the lowest of the low,
strikes at those who seek to conciliate,
how then could someone like me?

athā'haṃ khēcarairbhūtaiḥ
abhigamya sabhājitaḥ ॥
Then he flew away with all force,
and that speed made the sky
look like a tiny stretch.
Then all the creatures of the sky
came to me and praised me.

ஹ்யப்ருவந்மாம் மஹர்ஷய: ।

diṣṭyā jīvati sītēti
hyabruvanmāṃ maharṣayaḥ ।
kathańcitsakalatrō'sau
gatastē svastyasaṃṡayam ॥
And the Maharshis said,
‘It is by good fortune that Seetā is alive.
He somehow managed to escape with
her who should have been protected.
Do not worry, it will all be well for you.’

ஸோகவேகபராஜிதாம் ।
ராமலக்ஷ்மணயோர்நாம
க்ரோஸந்தீம் முக்தமூர்தஜாம் ॥
ēva muktastatō'haṃ taiḥ
siddhaiḥ paramaṡōbhanaiḥ ।
sa ca mē rāvaṇō rājā
rakṣasāṃ prativēditaḥ ।
harandāṡarathērbhāryām
rāmasya janakātmajām ।
bhraṣṭābharaṇakauá ��ēyām
ṡōkavēgaparājitām ।
rāmalakṣmaṇayōrnāma
krōṡantīṃ muktamūrdhajām ॥
Then those Siddhas of supreme luster
told me that he was Rāvaṇa, the king of Rākshasas,
and he was carrying off the daughter of Janaka
and wife of Rāma, the son of Daṡaratha,
as she, with her ornaments and silken garments
all disordered and her hair disheveled,
was crying, saying the names of Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
beaten by torrents of grief.

ētamarthaṃ samagraṃ mē

Supārṡwa, the best of communicators, concluded
saying, ‘That is why I am late, father’,
conveying to me all that had happened.

putrassantarjitō vāgbhiḥ
na trātā maithilī katham ॥
I found fault with my son for not saving Maithili,
as I know how evil minded that powerful Rāvaṇa is.

tau ca sītā viyōjitau ।
na mē daṡarathasnēhāt

My son failed to do what would please me
in spite of hearing Seetā cry, separated from them,
and in spite of knowing about
my friendship with Daṡaratha.

apakṣō hi kathaṃ pakṣī
karma kińcitsamārabhēt ॥
Even after hearing that, I could
not think of doing anything daring.
What can a bird without wings
even think of doing?

vāgbuddhiguṇavartinā ।
ṡrūyatāṃ tatpravakṣyāmi

But I will do what I can
by counseling you, using my wit and wisdom.
Listen and I will tell you how it
all depends on how you deploy your valor.

I will do what would please you
just with my words and intellect.
The object of the son of Daṡaratha is my object,
and there is no doubt about it.

balavantō manasvinaḥ ।
prahitāḥ kapirājēna
dēvairapi durāsadāḥ ॥
You excel with your intellect
and you are strong and focused.
You, invincible even to the Dēvas,
are sent by the king of Vānaras.

நிஸிதா: கங்கபத்ரிண: ।

rāmalakṣmaṇabāṇāṡca
niṡitāḥ kaṅkapatriṇaḥ ।
trayāṇāmapi lōkānām
paryāptāstrāṇanigrahē ॥
And the sharp arrows of Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
speeded with the feathers of the Kaṅka,
are quite capable of saving as well as
destroying the three worlds.

bhavatāṃ tu samarthānām
na kińcidapi duṣkaram ॥
No doubt that the Ten-necked is
endowed with power and strength;
but nothing is hard for you who are so capable.

na hi karmasu sajjantē

There is no time to lose.
Make a resolve in your minds.
Smart people like you would not dawdle
in their tasks, would they?

ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே ।
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே ஏகோநஷஷ்டிதமஸ்ஸர்க:

kiṣkindhākāṇḍē ēkōnaṣaṣṭitamassargaḥ
Thus concludes the fifty ninth Sarga
in Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
This Sarga comes a bit out of order. I would assume it to be an error that occurred in the compilation process of the Southern Edition of Rāmāyaṇa that we use as the source text.
Embedding this Sarga inside Sarga 63 will give a more logical and smoother narration. Read this Sarga after the Ṡlōka 4.63.6a and before 4.63.6b.

Gandharvas are extremely lascivious,
snakes are exceedingly irascible,
deer are extremely timorous
and we are even more extremely ravenous.

One day, my son came without food
late in the day after the sun had set
while I was hungry and eagerly waiting for food.

I, suffering from lack of food,
was harsh with him, who
actually is a source of joy.

me what exactly had happened.

at the usual time in quest of meat
and was hovering over with full attention
over the Mahēndra mountain range.

Upon seeing them, I resolved to
to have them for food.
But then he begged me to let him go,
humbly and persuasively.

Nobody, not even the lowest of the low,
strikes at those who seek to conciliate,
how then could someone like me?

Then he flew away with all force,
and that speed made the sky
look like a tiny stretch.
Then all the creatures of the sky
came to me and praised me.

He somehow managed to escape with
her who should have been protected.
Do not worry, it will all be well for you.’

Then those Siddhas of supreme luster
told me that he was Rāvaṇa, the king of Rākshasas,
and he was carrying off the daughter of Janaka
and wife of Rāma, the son of Daṡaratha,
as she, with her ornaments and silken garments
all disordered and her hair disheveled,
was crying, saying the names of Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
beaten by torrents of grief.

conveying to me all that had happened.

My son failed to do what would please me
in spite of hearing Seetā cry, separated from them,
and in spite of knowing about
my friendship with Daṡaratha.

Even after hearing that, I could
not think of doing anything daring.
What can a bird without wings
even think of doing?

vāgbuddhiguṇavartinā ।
ṡrūyatāṃ tatpravakṣyāmi

But I will do what I can
by counseling you, using my wit and wisdom.
Listen and I will tell you how it
all depends on how you deploy your valor.

The object of the son of Daṡaratha is my object,
and there is no doubt about it.

prahitāḥ kapirājēna
dēvairapi durāsadāḥ ॥
You excel with your intellect
and you are strong and focused.
You, invincible even to the Dēvas,
are sent by the king of Vānaras.

speeded with the feathers of the Kaṅka,
are quite capable of saving as well as
destroying the three worlds.

No doubt that the Ten-necked is
endowed with power and strength;
but nothing is hard for you who are so capable.

na hi karmasu sajjantē

There is no time to lose.
Make a resolve in your minds.
Smart people like you would not dawdle
in their tasks, would they?
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே ।
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே ஏகோநஷஷ்டிதமஸ்ஸர்க:
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē ।
kiṣkindhākāṇḍē ēkōnaṣaṣṭitamassargaḥ
Thus concludes the fifty ninth Sarga
in Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
This Sarga comes a bit out of order. I would assume it to be an error that occurred in the compilation process of the Southern Edition of Rāmāyaṇa that we use as the source text.
Embedding this Sarga inside Sarga 63 will give a more logical and smoother narration. Read this Sarga after the Ṡlōka 4.63.6a and before 4.63.6b.
