sa mahāsattvasaṃnādaḥ
ṡailapīḍānimittajaḥ ।
pṛthivīṃ pūrayāmāsa
diṡaṡcōpavanāni ca ॥
The din of those mighty creatures,
caused by the squishing of the mountain,
filled the earth, the four quarters and the woods.

ṡirōbhiḥ pṛthubhiḥ sarpā
vyaktasvastikalakṣaṇaiḥ ।
vamantaḥ pāvakaṃ ghōram
dadaṃṡurdaṡanaiḥ ṡilāḥ ॥
The serpents, revealing the marks of Swastika
on their massive hoods, spewed dreadful fire
and bit the rocks with their fangs.

tāstadā saviṣairdaṣṭāḥ
kupitaistairmahāṡilāḥ ।
jajvalu pāvakōddīptā
bibhiduṡca sahasradhā ॥
Bitten by the poisonous snakes in their fury,
the huge rocks burst into flames and
broke into thousands of pieces.

tasmin jātāni parvatē ।
viṣaghnānyapi nāgānām
na ṡēkuḥ ṡamituṃ viṣam ॥
Even the great body of herbs,
antidotes against poison,
that grew on that mountain, could not
neutralize the poison spewed by the serpents.

பாநபூமிகதம் ஹித்வா
ஹைமமாஸவபாஜநம் ।
பாத்ராணி ச மஹார்ஹாணி
கரகாம்ஸ்ச ஹிரண்மயாந் ।
லேஹ்யாநுச்சாவசாந் பக்ஷ்யாந்
மாம்ஸாநி விவிதாநி ச ।
ஆர்ஷபாணி ச சர்மாணி
கடகாம்ஸ்ச கநகத்ஸரூந் ॥
bhidyatē'yaṃ girirbhūtaiḥ
iti mattvā tapasvina ḥ ।
trastā vidyādharāstasmāt
utpētuḥ strī gaṇaiḥ saha ।
pānabhūmigataṃ hitvā
haimamāsavabhājanam ।
pātrāṇi ca mahārhāṇi
karakāṃṡca hiraṇmayān ।
lēhyānuccāvacān bhakṣyān
māṃsāni vividhāni ca ।
ārṣabhāṇi ca carmāṇi
khaḍagāṃṡca kanakatsarūn ॥
Imagining that the mountain was being blown up
by spirits, the Tapasvis left.
The frightened Vidyādharas rose up and left
along with their women-folk, leaving behind,
in the drinking grounds, golden drinking cups,
luxurious vessels, tall containers made of gold,
and all kinds of chewable and sucking foods,
variety of meats, bull’s hides
and swords with gold hilts.

ரக்தமால்யாநுலேபநா: ।
ரக்தாக்ஷா: புஷ்கராக்ஷாஸ்ச

kṛtakaṇṭhaguṇāḥ kṣībā
raktamālyānulēpanāḥ ।
raktākṣāḥ puṣkarākṣāṡca
gaganaṃ pratipēdirē ॥
(Those Vidyādharas) whose lotus eyes were
blood shot as they were intoxicated with liquor,
took to the skies, with their
necks adorned by many necklaces,
and bodies by garlands of red flowers and creams.

பாரிஹார்யதரா: ஸ்த்ரிய: ।

pārihāryadharāḥ striyaḥ ।
vismitāḥ sasmitāstasthuḥ
ākāṡē ramaṇaiḥ saha ॥
And their women, wearing necklaces,
anklets, shoulder-rings and bracelets,
stood astonished and smiling
in the sky along with their lovers.

வித்யாதரமஹர்ஷய: ।
ஸஹிதாஸ்தஸ்துராகாஸே

darṡayantō mahāvidyām
vidyādharamaharṣayaḥ ।
sahitāstasthurākāṡē
vīkṣāńcakruṡca parvatam ॥
With their skill of levitation in evident display,
Vidyādharas and Maharshis got together
and stood in the sky, gawking at that mountain.

ருஷீணாம் பாவிதாத்மநாம் ।

ṡuṡruvuṡca tadā ṡabdam
ṛṣīṇāṃ bhāvitātmanām ।
cāraṇānāṃ ca siddhānām
sthitānāṃ vimalē'mbarē ॥
Then they heard Siddhas, Cāraṇas,
and Ṛshis, the purified Selves,
standing in the sky, saying:

ēṣa parvatasaṅkāṡō
hanumān mārutātmajaḥ ।
titīrṣati mahāvēgaḥ
samudraṃ makarālayam ॥
This is Hanumān, son of Vāyu,
huge as a mountain and endowed with great speed.
He wishes to cross the ocean,
abode of crocodiles (and the like).

சிகீர்ஷந் கர்ம துஷ்கரம் ।
ஸமுத்ரஸ்ய பரம் பாரம்
துஷ்ப்ராபம் ப்ராப்துமிச்சதி ॥
rāmārthaṃ vānarārthaṃ ca
cikīrṣan karma duṣkaram ।
samudrasya paraṃ pāram
duṣprāpaṃ prāptumicchati ॥
Set on an impossible task
for the sake of Rāma and the Vānaras,
he wishes to reach the other side
of the ocean, which is very hard to do.

வசஸ்தேஷாம் மஹாத்மநாம் ।
தமப்ரமேயம் தத்ருஸு:

vacastēṣāṃ mahātmanām ।
tamapramēyaṃ dadṛṡuḥ
parvatē vānararṣabham ॥
Hearing the words of those Mahātmas,
the Vidyādharas then noticed
the unequalled bull among Vānaras on the mountain.

சகம்பே சாசலோபம: ।
நநாத ஸுமஹாநாதம்
ஸுமஹாநிவ தோயத: ॥

cakampē cācalōpamaḥ ।
nanāda sumahānādam
sumahāniva tōyadaḥ ॥
He then shook his hair.
Shaking his body that was solid like a mountain,
he let off a great bellow that
resembled the loud thunder of rain cloud.

லாங்கூலம் லோமபிஸ்சிதம் ।
உத்பதிஷ்யந் விசிக்ஷேப

ānupūrvyēṇa vṛttaṃ ca
lāṅgūlaṃ lōmabhiṡcitam ।
utpatiṣyan vicikṣēpa
pakṣirāja ivōragam ॥
Getting ready to take the leap,
he whipped out his rounded tail
that was covered with hair in a pattern,
as the lord of the birds (Garuḍa) does a snake.

5.1.34 ஈ தஸ்ய லாங்கூலமாவித்தம்
ஆத்தவேகஸ்ய ப்ருஷ்டத: ।
தத்ருஸே கருடேநேவ
ஹ்ரியமாணோ மஹோரக: ॥
tasya lāṅgūlamāviddham
āttavēgasya pṛṣṭhataḥ ।
dadṛṡē garuḍēnēva
hriyamāṇō mahōragaḥ ॥
His tail, which he threw out behind him
as he gained in speed, looked like
a great serpent that Garuḍa carries off.

மஹாபரிகஸந்நிபௌ ।
ஸஸாத ச கபி: கட்யாம்

bāhū saṃstambhayāmāsa
mahāparighasannibhau ।
sasāda ca kapiḥ kaṭyām
caraṇau sańcukōca ca ॥
The Vānara contracted his iron-club-like arms,
attenuated his hips and drew up his feet.

5.1.36 ஈ ஸம்ஹ்ருத்ய ச புஜௌ ஸ்ரீமாந்
ததைவ ச ஸிரோதராம் ।
தேஜ: ஸத்த்வம் ததா வீர்யம்
ஆவிவேஸ ஸ வீர்யவாந் ॥
saṃhṛtya ca bhujau ṡrīmān
tathaiva ca ṡirōdharām ।
tējaḥ sattvaṃ tathā vīryam
āvivēṡa sa vīryavān ॥
That blessed and valorous one
then bent his arms and neck drawing upon
all his power, energy and strength.

5.1.37 ஈ மார்கமாலோகயந்தூராத்
ஊர்த்வம் ப்ரணிஹிதேக்ஷண: ।
ருரோத ஹ்ருதயே ப்ராணாந்

mārgamālōkayandūrāt
ūrdhvaṃ praṇihitēkṣaṇaḥ ।
rurōdha hṛdayē prāṇān
ākāṡamavalōkayan ॥
Casting up his eyes upwards,
looking far along the path he was to take
and steadying his gaze on the sky,
he locked his breath in his chest.

5.1.39 ஆ பத்ப்யாம் த்ருடமவஸ்தாநம்
க்ருத்வா ஸ கபிகுஞ்ஜர: ।
நிகுஞ்ச்ய கர்ணௌ ஹநுமாந்
உத்பதிஷ்யந் மஹாபல: ।
வாநராந் வாநரஸ்ரேஷ்ட
இதம் வசநமப்ரவீத் ॥
padbhyāṃ dṛḍhamavasthānam
kṛtvā sa kapikuńjaraḥ ।
nikuńcya karṇau hanumān
utpatiṣyan mahābalaḥ ।
vānarān vānaraṡrēṣṭha
idaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥
Planting his feet firmly on the ground
and contracting his ears,
Hanumān of immense strength,
an elephant among the Vānaras
and also the best among them,
addressed the Vānaras, as he was about to rise:

ஸர: ஸ்வஸநவிக்ரம: ।
கச்சேத்தத்வத்கமிஷ்யாமி
லங்காம் ராவணபாலிதாம் ॥
yathā rāghavanirmuktaḥ
ṡaraḥ ṡvasanavikramaḥ ।
gacchēttadvadgamiṣyāmi
laṅkāṃ rāvaṇapālitām ॥
With the power of the wind and
speed comparable to an arrow shot by Rāghava,
I shall go to Laṅkā that is ruled by Rāvaṇa.

லங்காயாம் ஜநகாத்மஜாம் ।
அநேநைவ ஹி வேகேந

na hi drakṣyāmi yadi tām
laṅkāyāṃ janakātmajām ।
anēnaiva hi vēgēna
gamiṣyāmi surālayam ॥
If I do not find Janaka’s daughter in Laṅkā,
I shall go to the abode of the Dēvas
with the very same momentum.

ந த்ரக்ஷ்யாம்யக்ருதஸ்ரம: ।
பத்த்வா ராக்ஷஸராஜாநம்

yadi vā tridivē sītām
na drakṣyāmyakṛtaṡramaḥ ।
baddhvā rākṣasarājānam
ānayiṣyāmi rāvaṇam ॥
And If I cannot find her in Heaven,
I shall, with little effort, tie up
Rāvaṇa, the king of Rākshasas, and bring him here.

ஏஷ்யாமி ஸஹ ஸீதயா ।

sarvathā kṛtakāryō'ham
ēṣyāmi saha sītayā ।
ānayiṣyāmi vā laṅkām
samutpāṭya sarāvaṇām ॥
With my task completed in every manner,
I shall come back along with Seetā.
Or else, I shall uproot Laṅkā
and bring it and also Rāvaṇa along with it.

வாநராந்வாநரோத்தம: ।

மேநே ஸ கபிகுஞ்ஜர: ॥
ēvamuktvā tu hanumān
vānarānvānarōttamaḥ ।
utpapātātha vēgēna
vēgavānavicārayan ।
suparṇamiva cātmānam
mēnē sa kapikuńjaraḥ ॥
Having spoken thus to the Vānaras
that blessed and valorous Hanumān,
the foremost of the Vānaras
of immense speed, sprang into the sky
with no hesitation whatsoever.
That elephant among Vānaras felt
that he was no inferior to Suparṇa.

வேகாத்தே நகரோஹிண: ।
ஸம்ஹ்ருத்ய விடபாந் ஸர்வாந்

samutpatati tasmiṃstu
vēgāttē nagarōhiṇaḥ ।
saṃhṛtya viṭapān sarvān
samutpētuḥ samantataḥ ॥
As he rose up, sucked by his speed,
the trees that grew everywhere on that mountain
also rose, with their boughs
pressing against each other.

பாதபாந் புஷ்பஸாலிந: ।
உத்வஹந்நூருவேகேந

sa mattakōyaṣṭibhakān
pādapān puṣpaṡālinaḥ ।
udvahannūruvēgēna
jagāma vimalē'mbarē ॥
Carrying with him, by the force of his thighs,
the trees in flower, with the
intoxicated Kōyaṣṭibhaka birds on them,
he went along the clear sky.

முஹூர்தம் கபிமந்வயு: ।
ப்ரஸ்திதம் தீர்கமத்வாநம்

ūruvēgōddhatā vṛkṣā
muhūrtaṃ kapimanvayuḥ ।
prasthitaṃ dīrghamadhvānam
svabandhumiva bāndhavāḥ ॥
The trees that had been haled up
by the speed of his thighs
followed the Vānara for a while,
like relations seeing off
one set upon a long journey.

ஸாலாஸ்சாந்யே நகோத்தமா: ।
அநுஜக்முர்ஹநூமந்தம்

tamūruvēgōnmathitāḥ
sālāṡcānyē nagōttamāḥ ।
anujagmurhanūmantam
sainyā iva mahīpatim ॥
The Sāla and other big trees,
uprooted by the speed of his thighs,
followed Hanumān as an army does a King.

பாதபைரந்வித: கபி: ।
ஹநுமாந் பர்வதாகாரோ
பபூவாத்புததர்ஸந: ॥
supuṣpitāgrairbahubhiḥ
pādapairanvitaḥ kapiḥ ।
hanumān parvatākārō
babhūvādbhutadarṡanaḥ ॥
That sight of Hanumān, huge like a mountain,
followed by many a tree in full flower,
was simply mesmerizing.

ந்யமஜ்ஜந் லவணாம்பஸி ।
பயாதிவ மஹேந்த்ரஸ்ய

sāravantō'tha yē vṛkṣāḥ
nyamajjan lavaṇāmbhasi ।
bhayādiva mahēndrasya
parvatā varuṇālayē ॥
Then those heavy trees plunged
into the salty ocean,
just as mountains plunged (once upon a time)
into the ocean, from fear of Mahēndra.

கபி: ஸாங்குரகோரகை: ।
ஸுஸுபே மேகஸங்காஸ:

sa nānākusumaiḥ kīrṇaḥ
kapiḥ sāṅkurakōrakaiḥ ।
ṡuṡubhē mēghasaṅkāṡaḥ
khadyōtairiva parvataḥ ॥
The Vānara , covered with
many a flower, bud and blossom,
shone like a cloud and like a
mountain covered with fireflies.
