manasā dhārayanmuhu: ।
nādhyagacchattadā pāram
ṡōkasya kapikuńcaraḥ ॥
With his mind harboring many
gloomy thoughts like these repeatedly,
the elephant among Vānaras could not
reach the other shore of the (ocean of) sadness.

I will search this city of Laṅkā again and again
till I see the wife of Rāma, of great repute.

Even if I bring Rāma here,
trusting the words of Sampāti,
Rāghava, not seeing his wife,
would burn up all the Vānaras.

Hence, I shall stay put right here,
with limited food and refrained senses.
All those humans and Vānaras should
not have to perish because of me.

I shall go there. It has not been searched by me. There seems to be a slight mix up in the order of Ṡlōkas here, perhaps due to the misplacement of palm leaves at some point.

the son of Vāyu scanned all the directions
and went toward the Aṡōka Vana.

thought about (what to do).

for sure, must be crowded with many Rākshasas.

The trees here, for sure, must be protected by guards.
The venerable and omnipresent lord is also blowing soft,
without shaking them violently.

May the self-born Lord, Brahma, the Dēvas,
Agni, Vāyu, Indra, the Wielder of the Vajra,
Varuṇa armed with the noose,
and likewise the sun and the moon,
the mighty Aṡwins and the Maruts,
and Ṡarva too, grant me success!

as well as all the unseen powers
that I may encounter on my way,
will assuredly vouchsafe me success!

Ah, when shall I see the spotless face
of the noble one and its lotus-petal-like eyes,

and bearing a lovely smile, that recalls
the pleasant sight of the lord of the stars?

How shall the frail and suffering one,
who was carried off by force by him
of mean, evil and cruel deeds
whose costumes and decorations
themselves are no less terrifying,
fall into the range of my scanning eye today?

dhruvaṃ tu rakṣōbahulā
bhaviṣyati vanākulā ।
aṡōkavanikā puṇyā
sarvasaṃskārasaṃskṛtā ॥
The auspicious Aṡōka Vana with many grooves,
maintained carefully in every manner,
for sure, must be crowded with many Rākshasas.

நூநம் ரக்ஷந்தி பாதபாந் ।
பகவாநபி ஸர்வாத்மா

rakṣiṇaṡcātra vihitā
nūnaṃ rakṣanti pādapān ।
bhagavānapi sarvātmā
nātikṣōbhaṃ pravāti vai ॥
The trees here, for sure, must be protected by guards.
The venerable and omnipresent lord is also blowing soft,
without shaking them violently.

ராமார்தே ராவணஸ்ய ச ।

saṃkṣiptō'yaṃ mayā'tmā ca
rāmārthē rāvaṇasya ca ।
siddhiṃ mē saṃvidhāsyanti
dēvāḥ sarṣigaṇāstviha ॥
I contract my body to confound Rāvaṇa
and to serve the cause of Rāma!
May the Dēvas along with the
companies of Ṛshis bless me with success!

brahmā svayaṃbhūrbhagavān
dēvāṡcaiva diṡantu mē ।
siddhimagniṡca vāyuṡca
puruhūtaṡca vajrabhṛt ।
varuṇaḥ pāṡahastaṡca
sōmādityau tathaiva ca ।
aṡvinau ca mahātmānau
marutaḥ ṡarva ēva ca ॥
May the self-born Lord, Brahma, the Dēvas,
Agni, Vāyu, Indra, the Wielder of the Vajra,
Varuṇa armed with the noose,
and likewise the sun and the moon,
the mighty Aṡwins and the Maruts,
and Ṡarva too, grant me success!

பூதாநாம் சைவ ய: ப்ரபு: ।

siddhiṃ sarvāṇi bhūtāni
bhūtānāṃ caiva yaḥ prabhuḥ ।
dāsyanti mama yē cānyē
hyadṛṣṭāḥ pathi gōcarāḥ ॥
All creatures, and the one who lords them all,
as well as all the unseen powers
that I may encounter on my way,
will assuredly vouchsafe me success!

ஸுசிஸ்மிதம் பத்மபலாஸலோசநம் ।

ப்ரஸந்நதாராதிபதுல்யதர்ஸநம் ॥
tadunnasaṃ pāṇḍuradantamavraṇaṃ
ṡucismitaṃ padmapalāṡalōcanam ।
drakṣyē tadāryāvadanaṃ kadānvahaṃ
prasannatārādhipatulyadarṡanam ॥
Ah, when shall I see the spotless face
of the noble one and its lotus-petal-like eyes,
sporting a lofty nose and white teeth
and bearing a lovely smile, that recalls
the pleasant sight of the lord of the stars?

ஸுதாருணாலங்க்ருதவேஷதாரிணா ।
பலாபிபூதா ஹ்யபலா தபஸ்விநீ
கதம் நு மே த்ருஷ்டிபதேऽத்ய ஸா பவேத் ॥
kṣudrēṇa pāpēna nṛṡaṃsakarmaṇā
sudāruṇālaṅkṛtavēṣadhāriṇā ।
balābhibhūtā hyabalā tapasvinī
kathaṃ nu mē dṛṣṭipathē'dya sā bhavēt ॥
How shall the frail and suffering one,
who was carried off by force by him
of mean, evil and cruel deeds
whose costumes and decorations
themselves are no less terrifying,
fall into the range of my scanning eye today?
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
ஸுந்தரகாண்டே த்ரயோதஸஸ்ஸர்க:॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
