paṡyēyaṃ nāvasīdēyam
svapnō'pi mama matsarī ॥
I can hold myself if I could see
Rāghava, the Veera, along with Lakshmaṇa,
at least in a dream.
But even the dream is cross with me!

for seeing a monkey in a
dream should not bode well,

Or, is it that my mind is confused,
or the chemicals in my body are in turmoil?
Or, is it that I am becoming crazy or perverted?
Or, is it a mirage?

Or may be I am neither confused

Thinking thus about all the possibilities,
Seetā finally concluded that
he must be the lord of Rākshasas,
because the Rākshasas can assume any form at will.

Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
made her happy with words
that were pleasing to her ears:

vikramēṇōpapannaṡca
yathā viṣṇurmahāyaṡāḥ ॥
He radiates splendor like the sun.
He charms the worlds like the moon.
He is the king of all the worlds
like the Dēva Vaiṡravaṇa.
He is of great renown and he is
endowed with prowess like that of Vishṇu.

rūpavānsubhagaḥ ṡrīmān
kandarpa iva mūrtimān ॥
He is a man of his word.
His speech is sweet like
that of the Dēva Bṛihaspati.
He is attractive, handsome and has a rich bearing.
He looks just like Manmatha.

sthānakrōdhaḥ prahartā ca
ṡrēṣṭhō lōkē mahārathaḥ ।
bāhucchāyāmavaṣṭabdhō
yasya lōkō mahātmanaḥ ॥
He frowns on what deserves a frown
and hits what needs to be hit.
He is the best, and he can (singlehandedly)
beat an army of ten thousand from his chariot.
It is under the able protection of his arm
that the entire world reposes safely.

You will see now what happens to him,
who has abducted you when no one was around,
after luring away Rāghava from the Āṡrama,
deploying the phantom deer.

na cirādrāvaṇaṃ saṃkhyē
yō vadhiṣyati vīryavān ।
rōṣapramuktairiṣubhiḥ
jvaladbhiriva pāvakaiḥ ।
tēnāhaṃ prēṣitō dūtaḥ
tvatsakāṡamihāgataḥ ।
tvadviyōgēna duḥkhārtaḥ
sa tvāṃ kauṡalamabravīt ॥
It would not be too long from now
before that valorous one who sent me
as his messenger to your presence here
will be killing him with the arrows
that blaze like tongues of fire,
shot by him in his rage.
He is distraught with grief
because of separation from you
and inquires your wellbeing.

sumitrānandavardhanaḥ ।
abhivādya mahābāhuḥ

Lakshmaṇa of immense strength and mighty arm,
the delight of Sumitra, also salutes you
and inquires your wellbeing.

Rāma’s friend and the king of Vānara chiefs,
also inquires your wellbeing.

Rāma, along with Lakshmaṇa and Sugreeva
thinks of your every day.
Thank Providence, O Vaidēhi, that you are alive;
falling into the hands of Rākshasis!

It would not be too long before you see Rāma,
Lakshmaṇa of immense strength and
Sugreeva of immeasurable strength
along with crores of Vānaras!

praviṣṭō nagarīṃ laṅkām
laṅghayitvā mahōdadhim ॥
I am the minister of Sugreeva.
I am a Vānara, and my name is Hanumān.
I entered this city of Laṅkā
after leaping over the great ocean.

லக்ஷ்மணம் ச மஹாபலம் ।
மத்யே வாநரகோடீநாம்
ஸுக்ரீவம் சாமிதௌஜஸம் ॥
nacirāddrakṣyasē rāmam
lakṣmaṇaṃ ca mahābalam ।
madhyē vānarakōṭīnām
sugrīvaṃ cāmitaujasam ॥
It would not be too long before you see Rāma,
Lakshmaṇa of immense strength and
Sugreeva of immeasurable strength
along with crores of Vānaras!

ஹநுமாந்நாம வாநர: ।
ப்ரவிஷ்டோ நகரீம் லங்காம்
லங்கயித்வா மஹோததிம் ॥
ahaṃ sugrīvasacivō
hanumānnāma vānaraḥ ।
praviṣṭō nagarīṃ laṅkām
laṅghayitvā mahōdadhim ॥
I am the minister of Sugreeva.
I am a Vānara, and my name is Hanumān.
I entered this city of Laṅkā
after leaping over the great ocean.

ராவணஸ்ய துராத்மந: ।
த்வாம் த்ரஷ்டுமுபயாதோऽஹம்

kṛtvā mūrdhni padanyāsam
rāvaṇasya durātmanaḥ ।
tvāṃ draṣṭumupayātō'ham
samāṡritya parākramam ॥
Setting my foot on the
head of the evil minded Rāvaṇa,
I came here to see you,
relying on my own prowess alone.

யதா மாமவகச்சஸி ।
விஸங்கா த்யஜ்யதாமேஷா
ஸ்ரத்தத்ஸ்வ வததோ மம ॥
nāhamasmi tathā dēvi
yathā māmavagacchasi ।
viṡaṅkā tyajyatāmēṣā
ṡraddhatsva vadatō mama ॥
My Dēvi! I am not who you worry I am.
Please give up your apprehensions
and trust what I say.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
ஸுந்தரகாண்டே சதுஸ்த்ரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க:॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
sundarakāṇḍē catustriṃṡassargaḥ॥
Thus concludes the thirty fourth Sarga
in Sundara Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
