vānarēndrō vyavasthitaḥ ।
tayōssamīpaṃ māmēva
prēṣayāmāsa satvaram ॥
Then that lord of Vānaras,
stationing himself on that crest of the mountain,
sent me specifically to them in all haste.

Then I, taking instructions from Sugreeva,
went to the presence of those two tigers among men,
who were handsome and endowed with rich looks,
with my palms joined in reverence.

I carried them on my back to that place
(where Sugreeva was), after I earned
their pleasure by telling them
everything as it was and in full detail.

Then they told everything about them
in detail to Mahātma Sugreeva.
As they kept talking, a deep
friendship developed among themselves.

The lord of men and the lord of Vānaras,
filled with affection for each other,
consoled each other and shared their
respective stories that had happened thus far.

The elder brother of Lakshmaṇa
consoled Sugreeva, who had been
cast away at a far off place
by his brother Vāli of immense power
for the sake of a woman.

rāmasyākliṣṭakarmaṇaḥ ।
lakṣmaṇō vānarēndrāya
sugrīvāya nyavēdayat ॥
Then Lakshmaṇa told the lord of Vānaras
about the grief that Rāma,
who does everything with ease,
has been afflicted with after he lost you.

grahagrasta ivāṃṡumān ॥
Hearing the words that Lakshmaṇa told,
the lord of Vānaras felt so depressed that
he looked like the sun eclipsed by the planet.

rakṣasā hriyamāṇayā ।
yānyābharaṇajālāni
pātitāni mahītalē ।
tāni sarvāṇi rāmāya
ānīya hariyūthapāḥ ।
saṃhṛṣṭā darṡayāmāsuḥ
gatiṃ tu na vidustava ॥
The chief of Vānaras was then happy
to bring and present to Rāma
the jewels that had adorned your body
that you had dropped down when you
were being carried off by the Rākshasa
to a place about which there was no clue.

tasminvigatacētasi ॥
Then it was I who happened to
bring and give them to Rāma.
On seeing them, he fainted and
they (slipped from his hand) and got
scattered around, making a clinking noise.

kṛtvā bahuvidhaṃ tava ।
tēna dēvaprakāṡēna
dēvēna paridēvitam ॥
Then keeping those beautiful ornaments on his lap,
that lord, whose splendor resembled that of Dēvas,
lamented in many ways over your loss.

prādīpayandāṡarathēḥ
tāni ṡōkahutāṡanam ॥
As he cried and wept repeatedly looking at them,
those ornaments only fanned the fire of his grief.

து:கார்தேந மஹாத்மநா ।

duḥkhārtēna mahātmanā ।
mayā'pi vividhairvākyaiḥ
kṛcchrādutthāpitaḥ punaḥ ॥
Then that Mahātma slumped on the ground
distraught with sorrow and lay there for long
when I, with great difficulty, helped him get up,
offering many a word (of consolation).

tāni dṛṣṭvā mahābāhuḥ
darṡayitvā muhurmuhuḥ ।
rāghavassaha saumitriḥ
sugrīvē sa nyavēdayat ॥
Then Rāghava of mighty arm, along with Sowmitri,
showed them (to everyone around) again and again
and gave them back to Sugreeva (for safe keeping).

ராகவ: பரிதப்யதே ।

mahatā jvalatā nityam
agninēvāgniparvataḥ ॥
O noble one! Not seeing you,
Rāghava burns greatly and perpetually
with grief, like fire in a volcano.

tāpayanti mahātmānam
agnyagāramivāgnayaḥ ॥
Unable to sleep, grieving and thinking about you
Rāghava, the Mahātma, burns like
a fire pit with flames arising from it.

ராகவ: ப்ரவிசால்யதே ।

rāghavaḥ pravicālyatē ।
mahatā bhūmikampēna
mahāniva ṡilōccayaḥ ॥
Rāghava is shaken greatly by the grief of not seeing you,
like a rocky mountain by an earthquake.

நதீ: ப்ரஸ்ரவணாநி ச ।
சரந்ந ரதிமாப்நோதி

nadīḥ prasravaṇāni ca ।
caranna ratimāpnōti
tvāmapaṡyannṛpātmajē ॥
O princess! Not seeing you,
he finds no delight even in the
lovely woods, streams and rivers.

sa tvāṃ manujaṡārdūlaḥ
kṣipraṃ prāpsyati rāghavaḥ ।
samitrabāndhavaṃ hatvā
rāvaṇaṃ janakātmajē ॥
Nevertheless, O daughter of Janaka,
Rāghava, the tiger among men,
is going to get you back soon
after killing Rāvaṇa
along with his kith and kin.

ஸமயம் வாலிநம் ஹந்தும்

samayaṃ vālinaṃ hantum
tava cānvēṣaṇaṃ tathā ॥
Then Rāma and Sugreeva came to
an agreement with each other
to kill Vāli and to search for you.

வீராப்யாம் ஸ ஹரீஸ்வர: ।

tatastābhyāṃ kumārābhyām
vīrābhyāṃ sa harīṡvaraḥ ।
kiṣkindhāṃ samupāgamya
vālī yuddhē nipātitaḥ ॥
Then those two young Veeras
went to Kishkindhā and struck down
Vāli, the lord of Vānaras, in a fight.

ராமோ வாலிநமாஹவே ।
ஸர்வர்க்ஷஹரிஸங்காநாம்

rāmō vālinamāhavē ।
sarvarkṣaharisaṅghānām
sugrīvamakarōtpatim ॥
Then Rāma killed Vāli in the fight by his might and
made Sugreeva the lord of all the Vānaras and bears.

தேவ்யேவம் ஸமஜாயத ।

dēvyēvaṃ samajāyata ।
hanumantaṃ ca māṃ viddhi
tayōrdūtamihāgatam ॥
O Dēvi, a feeling of oneness
developed between Rāma and Sugreeva.
Know me to be Hanumān
who has come here as their envoy.

svarājyaṃ prāpya sugrīvaḥ
samānīya harīṡvarān ।
tvadarthaṃ prēṣayāmāsa
diṡō daṡa mahābalān ॥
Sugreeva, after getting the kingdom for himself,
summoned all the leaders of Vānaras of immense strength
and sent them in all the ten directions to look for you.

sugrīvēṇa mahaujasā ।
adrirāja pratīkāṡā:
sarvataḥ prasthitā mahīm ॥
Ordered thus by the mighty strong
Sugreeva, the lord of Vānaras,
they, each one humongous
like the king of mountains,
went all over the earth.

sugrīvavacanāturāḥ ।
caranti vasudhāṃ kṛtsnām
vayamanyē ca vānarāḥ ॥
Since then, we and other Vānaras
have been going all around the earth
following the command of Sugreeva warily.

vālisūnurmahābalaḥ ।
prasthitaḥ kapiṡārdūlaḥ
tribhāgabalasaṃvṛtaḥ ॥
The mighty strong blessed son of Vāli,
Aṅgada by name, a tiger among Vānaras,
set out with a third of the Vānara force.

tēṣāṃ nō vipraṇaṣṭānām
vindhyē parvatasattamē ।
bhṛṡaṃ ṡōkaparītānām
ahōrātragaṇā gatāḥ ॥
We, who started thus, lost our way
among the mighty mountain range of the Vindhyas,
and spent many scores of nights and days
overwhelmed by great grief.

காலஸ்யாதிக்ரமேண ச ।

tē vayaṃ kāryanairāṡyāt
kālasyātikramēṇa ca ।
bhayācca kapirājasya
prāṇāṃstyaktuṃ vyavasthitāḥ ॥
Then we were all but set to give up our lives
as we lost hope of accomplishing our mission,
and as the time limit that was set had been exceeded
and as we were afraid of the king of Vānaras.

கிரிப்ரஸ்ரவணாநி ச ।
அநாஸாத்ய பதம் தேவ்யா:

vicitya vanadurgāṇi
giriprasravaṇāni ca ।
anāsādya padaṃ dēvyāḥ
prāṇāṃstyaktuṃ samudyatāḥ ॥
Having searched the impenetrable Vanas,
mountains, and streams, and having
not found your whereabouts,
we were all set to give up our lives.

தவ நாஸம் ச வைதேஹி
வாலிநஸ்ச வதம் ததா ।
ப்ராயோபவேஸமஸ்மாகம்
மரணம் ச ஜடாயுஷ: ॥
dṛṣṭvā prāyōpaviṣṭāṃṡca
sarvānvānarapuṅgavān ।
bhṛṡaṃ ṡōkārṇavē magnaḥ
paryadēvayadaṅgadaḥ ।
tava nāṡaṃ ca vaidēhi
vālinaṡca vadhaṃ tathā ।
prāyōpavēṡamasmākam
maraṇaṃ ca jaṭāyuṣaḥ ॥
Seeing all of us, the bulls among Vānaras,
ready to give up our lives by fasting,
Aṅgada plunged in an ocean of grief,
and lamented, dwelling on your loss,
the slaying of Vāli, our plan to fast unto death
and the death of Jaṭāyu, O Vaidēhi!

நிராஸாநாம் முமூர்ஷதாம் ।
கார்யஹேதோரிவாயாத:

tēṣāṃ naḥ svāmisandēṡāt
nirāṡānāṃ mumūrṣatām ।
kāryahētōrivāyātaḥ
ṡakunirvīryavānmahān ॥
We gave up the hope of carrying out
the mission laid out by our master,
and were ready to take our lives.
Right then, as if it were
just to help us with the mission,
a huge powerful bird came over there.
