tadasminkāryaniryōgē
vīraivaṃ duratikramē ।
kiṃ paṡyasi samādhānam
tvaṃ hi kāryavidāṃ varaḥ ॥
While that being the challenge ahead
that is quite difficult to surmount,
O Veera, what do you see as a solution?
Anyway, you are the best among taskmasters!

paryāptaḥ paravīraghna
yaṡasyastē phalōdayaḥ ॥
Certainly, you are capable of
killing every warrior among the enemies and
accomplishing the mission all by yourself,
and it would bring you quite a name!

rāvaṇaṃ jitya saṃyugē ।
vijayī svapuraṃ yāyāt
tattasya sadṛṡaṃ bhavēt ॥
But it would be befitting of him
if he defeats Rāvaṇa and all his forces
in the battle and returns to
his home city along with me!

laṅkāṃ parabalārdanaḥ ।
māṃ nayēdyadi kākutsthaḥ
tattasya sadṛṡaṃ bhavēt ॥
It would be befitting of Kākutstha,
who pulverizes his enemies,
if he takes me away, throwing
Laṅkā into turmoil with his arrows!

bhavēdāhavaṡūrasya
tathā tvamupapādaya ॥
Hence, please arrange it so,
that that Mahātma, a dare devil in battles,
would get to display all the prowess
that is the like of his!

Hearing those purposeful and well-reasoned words
that were spoken in all sincerity,
Hanumān replied, saying what he had left to say:

īṡvaraḥ plavatāṃ varaḥ ।

O Dēvi! Sugreeva, the best of Vānaras
and the lord of Vānara and bear armies,
endowed with immense power,
is completely committed to your cause.

கோடீபிரபிஸம்வ்ருத: ।

kōṭībhirabhisaṃvṛtaḥ ।
kṣipramēṣyati vaidēhi
rākṣasānāṃ nibarhaṇaḥ ॥
He, along with thousands of Vānaras,
and surrounded by crores of them,
will come here very soon to kill the Rākshasas!

sattvavantō mahābalāḥ ।
manassaṅkalpasampātā
nidēṡē harayaḥ sthitāḥ ॥
The Vānaras of terrific prowess,
great power and immense strength,
who can move at the speed of their thought,
are standing ready, at his beck and call.

na tiryaksajjatē gatiḥ ।
na ca karmasu sīdanti
mahatsvamitatējasaḥ ॥
Nothing can obstruct their movement
upward, downward or sideways.
Endowed with limitless power,
they do not cave in even under
the most demanding of tasks.

vāyumārgānusāribhiḥ ॥
With great zeal, they circled
the earth and its oceans and mountains
many a time, following the path of the wind.

madviṡiṣṭāṡca tulyāṡca
santi tatra vanaukasaḥ ।
mattaḥ pratyavaraḥ kaṡcit
nāsti sugrīvasannidhau ॥
The Vana dwellers that are there
are either better than me
or at least as good as me.
There is no one in Sugreeva’s company
who is inferior to me.

ahaṃ tāvadiha prāptaḥ
kiṃ punastē mahābalāḥ ।
na hi prakṛṣṭāḥ prēṣyantē
prēṣyantē hītarē janāḥ ॥
If I myself could come here,
what to say of those mighty strong ones?
The exceptional ones will never be deployed (first),
but only the ordinary ones, is it not?

தேவி ஸோகோ வ்யபைது தே ।
ஏகோத்பாதேந தே லங்காம்

dēvi ṡōkō vyapaitu tē ।
ēkōtpātēna tē laṅkām
ēṣyanti hariyūthapāḥ ॥
Hence, O Dēvi, enough of worry; give up your grief!
The warrior chiefs of Vānaras will
arrive in Laṅkā in a single hop.

சந்த்ரஸூர்யாவிவோதிதௌ ।

mama pṛṣṭhagatau tau ca
candrasūryāvivōditau ।
tvatsakāṡaṃ mahāsattvau
nṛsiṃhāvāgamiṣyataḥ ॥
Those two lions among men of immense strength
will come here to your presence, seated on my back,
like the rising sun and moon.

āgamya nagarīṃ laṅkām
sāyakairvidhamiṣyataḥ ॥
Coming here together, Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
the two Veeras, the best among men,
will destroy Laṅkā with their arrows.

ராகவோ ரகுநந்தந: ।

rāghavō raghunandanaḥ ।
tvāmādāya varārōhē
svapurīṃ pratiyāsyati ॥
Killing Rāvaṇa and his stooges,
Rāghava, the delight of Raghu dynasty,
will return to his city, taking you with him,
O you of excellent Kaṭee!

bhava tvaṃ kālakāṅkṣiṇī ।
nacirāddrakṣyasē rāmam
prajvalantamivānalam ॥
Be comforted! May all go well for you!
Begin counting the days down and before long,
you will see Rāma, blazing like fire.

nihatē rākṣasēndrē'smin
saputrāmātyabāndhavē ।
tvaṃ samēṣvasi rāmēṇa
ṡaṡāṅkēnēva rōhiṇī ॥
With the lord of Rākshasas killed along with
his children, ministers and relations,
you will join Rāma, like Rōhiṇee does the moon.

kṣipraṃ tvaṃ dēvi ṡōkasya
pāraṃ yāsyasi maithili ।
rāvaṇaṃ caiva rāmēṇa
nihataṃ drakṣyasē'cirāt ॥
You will soon reach the other
end of this (ocean of) grief, O Dēvi!
Before long, O Maithili,
you will see Rāvaṇa killed by Rāma!

hanumānmārutātmajaḥ ।
gamanāya matiṃ kṛtvā
vaidēhīṃ punarabravīt ॥
Comforting Vaidēhi thus,
Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
all set in his mind to leave,
said once again to Vaidēhi:

tamarighnaṃ kṛtātmānam
kṣipraṃ drakṣyasi rāghavam ।
lakṣmaṇaṃ ca dhanuṣpāṇim
laṅkādvāramupāgatam ॥
You will soon see Rāghava,
resolved to decimate his enemies,
and Lakshmaṇa, with his bow in hand,
arriving at the gates of Laṅkā!

the company of Vānara Veeras
who are terrific, like tigers and lions
and majestic like elephants,
having nails and fangs for weapons.

nardatāṃ kapimukhyānām
āryē yūdhānyanēkaṡaḥ ॥
O noble one! You will see chiefs of Vānaras
and warriors in limitless numbers roaring
on the flanks of Laṅkā’s Malaya mountain,
resembling mountains and clouds themselves.

na ṡarma labhatē rāmaḥ
siṃhārdhita iva dvipaḥ ॥
Rāma, hit at his vitals by the
terrible darts of Manmatha,
knows no more peace than
an elephant oppressed by a lion.

ṡacīva patyā ṡakrēṇa
bhartrā nāthavatī hyasi ॥
O Dēvi, do not cry with grief!
May there be no disquiet in your heart,
for you do have a protector
in your husband, as Ṡaci does in Ṡakra.

There is no one who can excel Rāma.
There is no one who is a match for Lakshmaṇa.
You have (none other than) those two brothers,
who are comparable to fire and wind
for your protection!

nāsmiṃṡciraṃ vatsyasi dēvi dēṡē

na tē cirādāmagamanaṃ priyasya
kṣamasva matsaṅgamakālamātram ॥
You will not be here for long
in this place that is inhabited by
hosts of extremely cruel Rākshasas!
Before long your beloved will come.
Please bear with this, but only till I meet him.

The Vānaras of terrific prowess,
great power and immense strength,
who can move at the speed of their thought,
are standing ready, at his beck and call.

Nothing can obstruct their movement
upward, downward or sideways.
Endowed with limitless power,
they do not cave in even under
the most demanding of tasks.

With great zeal, they circled
the earth and its oceans and mountains
many a time, following the path of the wind.

santi tatra vanaukasaḥ ।
mattaḥ pratyavaraḥ kaṡcit
nāsti sugrīvasannidhau ॥
The Vana dwellers that are there
are either better than me
or at least as good as me.
There is no one in Sugreeva’s company
who is inferior to me.

If I myself could come here,
what to say of those mighty strong ones?
The exceptional ones will never be deployed (first),
but only the ordinary ones, is it not?

ēṣyanti hariyūthapāḥ ॥
Hence, O Dēvi, enough of worry; give up your grief!
The warrior chiefs of Vānaras will
arrive in Laṅkā in a single hop.

tvatsakāṡaṃ mahāsattvau

Those two lions among men of immense strength
will come here to your presence, seated on my back,
like the rising sun and moon.

āgamya nagarīṃ laṅkām
sāyakairvidhamiṣyataḥ ॥
Coming here together, Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
the two Veeras, the best among men,
will destroy Laṅkā with their arrows.

rāghavō raghunandanaḥ ।
tvāmādāya varārōhē
svapurīṃ pratiyāsyati ॥
Killing Rāvaṇa and his stooges,
Rāghava, the delight of Raghu dynasty,
will return to his city, taking you with him,
O you of excellent Kaṭee!

bhava tvaṃ kālakāṅkṣiṇī ।

Be comforted! May all go well for you!
Begin counting the days down and before long,
you will see Rāma, blazing like fire.

saputrāmātyabāndhavē ।
tvaṃ samēṣvasi rāmēṇa
ṡaṡāṅkēnēva rōhiṇī ॥
With the lord of Rākshasas killed along with
his children, ministers and relations,
you will join Rāma, like Rōhiṇee does the moon.

pāraṃ yāsyasi maithili ।
rāvaṇaṃ caiva rāmēṇa
nihataṃ drakṣyasē'cirāt ॥
You will soon reach the other
end of this (ocean of) grief, O Dēvi!
Before long, O Maithili,
you will see Rāvaṇa killed by Rāma!

Comforting Vaidēhi thus,
Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
all set in his mind to leave,
said once again to Vaidēhi:

kṣipraṃ drakṣyasi rāghavam ।

You will soon see Rāghava,
resolved to decimate his enemies,
and Lakshmaṇa, with his bow in hand,
arriving at the gates of Laṅkā!

You will very soon see
the company of Vānara Veeras
who are terrific, like tigers and lions
and majestic like elephants,
having nails and fangs for weapons.

āryē yūdhānyanēkaṡaḥ ॥
O noble one! You will see chiefs of Vānaras
and warriors in limitless numbers roaring
on the flanks of Laṅkā’s Malaya mountain,
resembling mountains and clouds themselves.

Rāma, hit at his vitals by the
terrible darts of Manmatha,
knows no more peace than
an elephant oppressed by a lion.

mābhūttē manasō'priyam ।
ṡacīva patyā ṡakrēṇa
bhartrā nāthavatī hyasi ॥
O Dēvi, do not cry with grief!
May there be no disquiet in your heart,
for you do have a protector
in your husband, as Ṡaci does in Ṡakra.

rāmādviṡiṣṭaḥ kō'nyō'sti
kaṡcitsaumitriṇā samaḥ ।
agnimārutakalpau tau
bhrātarau tava saṃṡrayau ॥
There is no one who can excel Rāma.
There is no one who is a match for Lakshmaṇa.
You have (none other than) those two brothers,
who are comparable to fire and wind
for your protection!

க்ஷமஸ்வ மத்ஸங்கமகாலமாத்ரம் ॥
nāsmiṃṡciraṃ vatsyasi dēvi dēṡē
rakṣōgaṇairadhyuṣitē'tiraudrē ।
na tē cirādāmagamanaṃ priyasya
kṣamasva matsaṅgamakālamātram ॥
You will not be here for long
in this place that is inhabited by
hosts of extremely cruel Rākshasas!
Before long your beloved will come.
Please bear with this, but only till I meet him.
