yuddhābhimanasassarvē
hanumadgrahaṇōdyatāḥ ॥
Then, they of immense strength
and frightening appearance,
with their huge fangs and huge bellies,
who were ever ready for a fight,
marched out of that palace, wielding
Kūṭas and Mudgaras in their hands,
eager to catch Hanumān.

Hanumān, the son of Vāyu, then
increased his body to a humongous size
and stridently clapped his shoulders,
filling Laṅkā with that sound.

That terrible noise of that clapping
and its echo brought the birds
toppling down from the sky.
And then he made a loud roar, shouting:

rājā jayati sugrīvō
rāghavēṇābhipālitaḥ ॥
Victorious is Rāma of tremendous strength,
Lakshmaṇa, the immensely strong,
and victorious is the king Sugreeva,
who has the support of Rāghava.

who decimates the armies of the enemies.

as the Rakshasas look on helplessly.

Surrounded by those valiant ones,
he of immense strength
pulled out the formidable Parigha
that was by the archway.
Taking that Parigha,
he killed those night-rovers.

That valiant son of Vāyu
jumped around in the sky
grasping that Parigha, resembling
the son of Vinata grasping a serpent.

went back to the archway
looking forward to more fighting again.

samādidēṡāpratimaṃ parākramē
prahastaputraṃ samarē sudurjayam ॥
Rolling his eyes in amazement
on hearing of the killing of
the huge army of Rākshasas,
the King ordered the son of Prahasta,
who was unequalled in prowess
and invincible in battle (to go to the fight).

ப்ரஹஸ்தபுத்ரம் ஸமரே ஸுதுர்ஜயம் ॥
sa rākṣasānāṃ nihataṃ mahadbalaṃ
niṡamya rājā parivṛttalōcanaḥ ।
samādidēṡāpratimaṃ parākramē
prahastaputraṃ samarē sudurjayam ॥
Rolling his eyes in amazement
on hearing of the killing of
the huge army of Rākshasas,
the King ordered the son of Prahasta,
who was unequalled in prowess
and invincible in battle (to go to the fight).
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
ஸுந்தரகாண்டே த்விசத்வாரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க:॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
sundarakāṇḍē dvicatvāriṃṡassargaḥ॥
Thus concludes the forty second Sarga
in Sundara Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
