Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 43
In this Sarga, after destroying the Vana and killing the Kiṅkaras, Hanumān thinks of destroying the palatial temple in the Vana. Climbing on to the top of the temple, Hanumān proclaims again the certain victory of Rāma, Lakshmaṇa and Sugreeva. Then one hundred of the guards of the temple attack him with a variety of weapons.
Hanumān quickly plucks a pillar out of that palace and whirls it, from which rises a fire that consumes the palatial temple. Then he kills the one hundred guards. Then he warns everyone that crores of Vānaras under the command of Sugreeva will come and kill all of them, and that they cannot hope to survive, having made Rāma their arch enemy.

Thinking thus in his mind,
Hanumān, the best of Vānaras and the son of Vāyu,
flew to the top of the palace
that was as lofty as the crest of Mēru,
displaying his strength.

Standing on that mountain-like palace,
the chief among the Vānara warriors,
of immense power, looked like another rising sun.

formidable and splendid palatial place of worship,
he looked like the mountain Pāriyātra.

Assuming a huge body with his special power,
the son of Vāyu clapped his shoulders,
filling Laṅkā with that sound.

The ear-piercing din caused by that clapping,
brought down the birds from the sky and
threw the guards of the temple into a swoon.

rājā jayati sugrīvō
rāghavēṇābhipālitaḥ ॥
Victorious is Rāma, a savant of Astras,
and Lakshmaṇa, the immensely strong,
and victorious is the king Sugreeva,
who has the support of Rāghava.

I am the servant of Rāma, the king of Kōsala
who does everything with ease.
I am Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
who decimates the armies of the enemies.

Not even an army of a thousand Rāvaṇas
can stand against me in fight,
as I assault with thousands of boulders and trees.

Harrowing the city of Laṅkā,
and making prostrations to Maithili,
I shall go back, my mission fulfilled,
as the Rākshasas look on helplessly.

of that temple, the chief among Vānara warriors
let off a terrible shout, frightening the Rākshasas.

gṛhītvā vividhānastrān
prāsānkhaṅgānparaṡvathān ।
visṛjantō mahākāyā
mārutiṃ paryavārayan ॥
Provoked by that mighty shout,
one hundred guards of the temple
went forth armed with various Astras
like Prāsas, swords and Paraṡus
and surrounded the son of Vāyu,
hurling them at his huge body.

with a variety of maces,
with Parighas that sported gold bands,
and with arrows that shone like the sun.

parikṣipya hariṡrēṣṭham
sa babhau rakṣasāṃ gaṇaḥ ।
tatō vātātmajaḥ kruddhō
bhīma rūpaṃ samāsthitaḥ ॥
That horde of Rākshasas,
as they circled the foremost of Vānaras,
looked like a great whirlpool
in the waters of river Gaṅgā,
while the enraged son of Vāyu
stood firmly in his terrifying form.

stambaṃ hēmapariṣkṛtam ।
utpāṭayitvā vēgēna
hanumānpavanātmajaḥ ॥
Then Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
plucked, in no time, one of the pillars
that was decked with gold, of that huge mansion.

Then he of immense strength whirled it,
which had hundred sides.
Then fire arose from it, burning the mansion.

dahyamānaṃ tatō dṛṣṭvā
prāsādaṃ hariyūthapaḥ ।
sa rākṣasaṡataṃ hattvā
vajrēṇēndra ivāsurān ।
antarikṣē sthita ṡrīmān
idaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥
After watching that mansion burn down,
the chief among the Vānara warriors
killed the one hundred Rākshasas
like Indra did the Asuras with Vajra.
Then hovering in the air,
the blessed one said these words:

balināṃ vānarēndrāṇām
sugrīvavaṡavartinām ।
aṭanti vasudhāṃ kṛtsnām
vayamanyē ca vānarāḥ ॥
Thousands under the command of Sugreeva,
of immense strength, comparable to me
have been dispatched; we and other Vānaras
are now scourging the entire earth.

kēcinnāgasahasrasya
babhūvustulyavikramāḥ ॥
Some of them are as strong as ten elephants,
some ten times as much, and some
equal a thousand elephants in their prowess.

Some of the Vānara warriors
are as powerful as giant rapids,
some are comparable to wind in strength
and the strength of the others is beyond measure.

kōṭībhirayutairapi ।
āgamiṣyati sugrīvaḥ
sarvēṣāṃ vō niṣūdanaḥ ॥
Sugreeva, with hundreds, tens of thousands,
hundreds of thousands and crores of Vānaras
like these, with teeth and nails
for weapons following him,
will come and kill all of you.

na yūyaṃ na ca rāvaṇaḥ ।
yasmādikṣvākunāthēna
baddhaṃ vairaṃ mahātmanā ॥
No more will there be this city of Laṅkā,
or you or Rāvaṇa, having yourself made
Mahātma Rāma, the lord of
Ikshwāku dynasty your arch enemy.

மிஷதாம் ஸர்வரக்ஷஸாம் ॥
ardayitvā purīṃ laṅkām
abhivādya ca maithilīm ।
samṛddhārthō gamiṣyāmi
miṣatāṃ sarvarakṣasām ॥
Harrowing the city of Laṅkā,
and making prostrations to Maithili,
I shall go back, my mission fulfilled,
as the Rākshasas look on helplessly.

rakṣasāṃ janayanbhayam ॥
Saying these words, sitting on top of the tower
of that temple, the chief among Vānara warriors
let off a terrible shout, frightening the Rākshasas.

தேந ஸப்தேந மஹதா
சைத்யபாலாஸ்ஸதம் யயு: ।

விஸ்ருஜந்தோ மஹாகாயா
மாருதிம் பர்யவாரயந் ॥
tēna ṡabdēna mahatā
caityapālāṡṡataṃ yayuḥ ।
gṛhītvā vividhānastrān
prāsānkhaṅgānparaṡvathān ।
visṛjantō mahākāyā
mārutiṃ paryavārayan ॥
Provoked by that mighty shout,
one hundred guards of the temple
went forth armed with various Astras
like Prāsas, swords and Paraṡus
and surrounded the son of Vāyu,
hurling them at his huge body.

parighaiḥ kāńcanāṅgadaiḥ ।
ājaghnurvānaraṡrēṣṭham
bāṇaiṡcādityasannibhaiḥ ॥
They attacked that eminent Vānara
with a variety of maces,
with Parighas that sported gold bands,
and with arrows that shone like the sun.

ஆவர்த இவ கங்காயா:
தோயஸ்ய விபுலோ மஹாந் ।

ததோ வாதாத்மஜ: க்ருத்தோ
பீம ரூபம் ஸமாஸ்தித: ॥
āvarta iva gaṅgāyāḥ
tōyasya vipulō mahān ।
parikṣipya hariṡrēṣṭham
sa babhau rakṣasāṃ gaṇaḥ ।
tatō vātātmajaḥ kruddhō
bhīma rūpaṃ samāsthitaḥ ॥
That horde of Rākshasas,
as they circled the foremost of Vānaras,
looked like a great whirlpool
in the waters of river Gaṅgā,
while the enraged son of Vāyu
stood firmly in his terrifying form.

ஸ்தம்பம் ஹேமபரிஷ்க்ருதம் ।
உத்பாடயித்வா வேகேந
ஹநுமாந்பவநாத்மஜ: ॥
prāsādasya mahantasya
stambaṃ hēmapariṣkṛtam ।
utpāṭayitvā vēgēna
hanumānpavanātmajaḥ ॥
Then Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
plucked, in no time, one of the pillars
that was decked with gold, of that huge mansion.

ஸததாரம் மஹாபல: ।
தத்ர சாக்நிஸ்ஸமபவத்

ṡatadhāraṃ mahābalaḥ ।
tatra cāgnissamabhavat
prāsādaṡcāpyadahyata ॥
Then he of immense strength whirled it,
which had hundred sides.
Then fire arose from it, burning the mansion.

தஹ்யமாநம் ததோ த்ருஷ்ட்வா
ப்ராஸாதம் ஹரியூதப: ।

அந்தரிக்ஷே ஸ்தித ஸ்ரீமாந்
இதம் வசநமப்ரவீத் ॥
dahyamānaṃ tatō dṛṣṭvā
prāsādaṃ hariyūthapaḥ ।
sa rākṣasaṡataṃ hattvā
vajrēṇēndra ivāsurān ।
antarikṣē sthita ṡrīmān
idaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥
After watching that mansion burn down,
the chief among the Vānara warriors
killed the one hundred Rākshasas
like Indra did the Asuras with Vajra.
Then hovering in the air,
the blessed one said these words:

விஸ்ருஷ்டாநி மஹாத்மநாம் ।

அடந்தி வஸுதாம் க்ருத்ஸ்நாம்
வயமந்யே ச வாநரா: ॥
mādṛṡānāṃ sahasrāṇi
visṛṣṭāni mahātmanām ।
balināṃ vānarēndrāṇām
sugrīvavaṡavartinām ।
aṭanti vasudhāṃ kṛtsnām
vayamanyē ca vānarāḥ ॥
Thousands under the command of Sugreeva,
of immense strength, comparable to me
have been dispatched; we and other Vānaras
are now scourging the entire earth.

கேசித்தஸகுணோத்தரா: ।

kēciddaṡaguṇōttarāḥ ।
kēcinnāgasahasrasya
babhūvustulyavikramāḥ ॥
Some of them are as strong as ten elephants,
some ten times as much, and some
equal a thousand elephants in their prowess.

kēcidvāyubalōpamāḥ ।
apramēyabalāṡcānyē
tatrāsanhariyūthapāḥ ॥
Some of the Vānara warriors
are as powerful as giant rapids,
some are comparable to wind in strength
and the strength of the others is beyond measure.

ஈத்ருக்விதைஸ்து ஹரிபி:
வ்ருதோ தந்தநகாயுதை: ।

கோடீபிரயுதைரபி ।
ஆகமிஷ்யதி ஸுக்ரீவ:
ஸர்வேஷாம் வோ நிஷூதந: ॥
īdṛgvidhaistu haribhiḥ
vṛtō dantanakhāyudhaiḥ ।
ṡataiṡṡatasahasraiṡca
kōṭībhirayutairapi ।
āgamiṣyati sugrīvaḥ
sarvēṣāṃ vō niṣūdanaḥ ॥
Sugreeva, with hundreds, tens of thousands,
hundreds of thousands and crores of Vānaras
like these, with teeth and nails
for weapons following him,
will come and kill all of you.

நேயமஸ்தி புரீ லங்கா
ந யூயம் ந ச ராவண: ।
யஸ்மாதிக்ஷ்வாகுநாதேந
பத்தம் வைரம் மஹாத்மநா ॥
nēyamasti purī laṅkā
na yūyaṃ na ca rāvaṇaḥ ।
yasmādikṣvākunāthēna
baddhaṃ vairaṃ mahātmanā ॥
No more will there be this city of Laṅkā,
or you or Rāvaṇa, having yourself made
Mahātma Rāma, the lord of
Ikshwāku dynasty your arch enemy.
