tatastīkṣṇārciravyagraḥ
pradakṣiṇaṡikhō'nalaḥ ।
jajvāla mṛgaṡābākṣyāḥ
ṡaṃsanniva ṡivaṃ kapēḥ ॥
Then the steadily blazing fire
swayed its tongues to the right,
as if to inform the wellbeing and safety
of the Vānara to that fawn-eyed one.

vavau svāsthyakarō dēvyāḥ
prālēyānilaṡītalaḥ ॥
And Vāyu, Hanumān’s father,
became cool like a (mountain) breeze,
blowing over the fire on the tail,
bringing solace to the heart of that Dēvi.

wondered why the blazing fire
did not spread all over him:

It seems like a big flame,
but it causes no pain to me;
it feels like a block of ice
placed at the tip of the tail.

But, no, it is all clear to me now;
this is the same amazing power of Rāma
I saw while flying over the ocean,
helping me in the form of a mountain.

kimagnirna kariṣyati ॥
When the sagacious Maināka
who was submerged in the ocean
could show such urgency
to further the cause of Rāma,
why would not Agni?

tējasā rāghavasya ca ।
pituṡca mama sakhyēna
na māṃ dahati pāvakaḥ ॥
It is because of Seetā’s kindness,
and the power of Rāghava,
and due to his friendship with my father,
that Agni does not burn me.

utpapātātha vēgēna
nanāda ca mahākapiḥ ॥
Pondering a little more and for a while,
the great Vānara, an elephant among Vānaras,
sprang up with all speed, letting out a roar.

Then the blessed one, the son of Vāyu,
went near the gateway of the city
that rose high like the crest of a mountain,
from the midst of the crowds of Rākshasas.

kṣaṇēna punarātmavān ।
hrasvatāṃ paramāṃ prāptō
bandhanānyavaṡātayat ॥
He then grew to be huge like a mountain,
and in a moment that capable one
shrank himself, becoming puny,
shaking off the bonds on him.

புந: பர்வதஸந்நிப: ।

punaḥ parvatasannibhaḥ ।
vīkṣamāṇaṡca dadṛṡē
parighaṃ tōraṇāṡritam ॥
Becoming free (of the bonds), the blessed one
again grew to the size of a mountain,
when he saw a Parigha by the gateway.

kālāyasapariṣkṛtam ।
rakṣiṇastān punassarvān
sūdayāmāsa mārutiḥ ॥
He, the son of Vāyu, of mighty arm,
wielding it, which was reinforced with iron bands,
killed everyone that was guarding it.

ஸ தாந்நிஹத்த்வா ரணசண்டவிக்ரம:
ஸமீக்ஷமாண: புநரேவ லங்காம் ।

ப்ரகாஸதாதித்ய இவார்சிமாலீ ॥
sa tānnihattvā raṇacaṇḍavikramaḥ
samīkṣamāṇaḥ punarēva laṅkām ।
pradīptalāṅgūlakṛtārcimālī
prakāṡatāditya ivārcimālī ॥
Having slain them, he of fierce prowess in battle,
took a broad look at Laṅkā again,
while the blazing fire on his tail
made him look like the sun with a halo of rays.

ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
ஸுந்தரகாண்டே த்ரிபஞ்சாஸஸ்ஸர்க:॥
