Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 54
In this Sarga, Hanumān thinks of inflicting further damage to the Rākshasas. He then, with his tail on fire, hops from one building to the other and one Vana to the other, setting the entire Laṅkā on fire, including the residences Rāvaṇa and other chief of Rākshasas like Prahasta, Mahāpārṡwa and Indrajit, but leaving out the residence of Vibheeshaṇa.
With the entire Laṅkā thus burning, all the Rākshasas, including women and children, rush out of their homes, with some women falling off the mansions with babies still suckling at their breasts. Everyone wonders whether it is Indra, or Varuṇa, or Kubēra or Brahma or the power of Vishṇu that had come there in the form of that Vānara. Some thought that he was nothing but the fire of Dissolution itself.
With Laṅkā thus burnt, all the Dēvas, Maharshis, Gandharvas, Vidyādharas and Nāgas feel delighted.

Looking over Laṅkā, the Vānara
felt that he had accomplished what he wanted.
His energy still revving up,
he pondered on what else could be done:

that could cause further grief
to all these Rākshasas?

The Vana is ruined,
many important Rākshasas are killed and
a good portion of the army is destroyed.
What remains to be done
is the destruction of the forts.

mama syātsaphalaṡṡramaḥ ॥
With the forts destroyed,
the entire mission (of Rāma)
would become that much easy.
My labors will bear fruit in doing this,
which calls only for minimal effort.

with these splendid mansions.

Looking like a dark cloud accompanied by lightning,
the great Vānara with his burning tail,
hopped over the tops of the buildings of Laṅkā.

and to the pleasure gardens from there,
that Vānara jumped around with no fear whatsoever,
surveying all those palaces.

prahastasya nivēṡanam ।
agniṃ tatra sa nikṣipya
ṡvasanēna samō balī ।
tatō'nyatpupluvē vēṡma
mahāpārṡvasya vīryavān ।
mumōca hanumānagnim
kālānalaṡikhōpamam ॥
He of great valor, immense speed and
strength comparable to that of wind
then descended on the residence of
Prahasta and set it on fire.
Then he jumped on to another
residence, of Mahāpārṡwa
and dropped fire on it that resembled
the conflagration that brings end to Time.

Then the great Vānara flew
on to the residences of
Vajradaṃshṭra, Ṡuka of immense power
and Sāraṇa, the smart one.

That bull among Vānaras went on burning
the houses one after the other;
of Raṡmikētu, Sūryaṡatru and Hrasvakarṇa,
of the Rākshasas Daṃshṭra and Rōmaṡa,
of the Rākshasas Yuddhōnmatta, Matta and Dhwajagreeva,
of the terrible Vidyujjihva and Hastimukha,
of Karāla, Piṡāca, Ṡōṇitāksha,
and the palaces of Kumbhakarṇa and Makarāksha,
and the houses of Yajñaṡatru, Brahmaṡatru,
and of Narāntaka, Kumbha and the wicked Nikumbha,
but left out the residence of
Vibheeshaṇa of immense power.

The great Vānara of great renown
burnt all the wealth
in the palaces that only the rich deserve,
and in the houses of the opulent (Rākshasas).

sarvamaṅgalaṡōbhitē ।

lāṅgūlāgrē pratiṣṭhitam ।
nanāda hanumānvīrō
yugāntajaladō yathā ॥
Roaring like the cloud of the Deluge,
Hanumān, the Veera, then dropped the
blazing fire, that was on the tip of his tail,
on that most important of the residences,
which was dazzling with every opulence,
adorned with many a kind of gem
and was lofty like Meru and Mandara.

தேஷு தேஷு மஹார்ஹேஷு
பவநேஷு மஹாயஸா: ।
க்ருஹேஷ்வ்ருத்திமதாம்ருத்திம்
ததாஹ ஸ மஹாகபி: ॥
tēṣu tēṣu mahārhēṣu
bhavanēṣu mahāyaṡāḥ ।
gṛhēṣvṛddhimatāmṛddhim
dadāha sa mahākapiḥ ॥
The great Vānara of great renown
burnt all the wealth
in the palaces that only the rich deserve,
and in the houses of the opulent (Rākshasas).

ஸர்வேஷாம் ஸமதிக்ரம்ய
ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரஸ்ய வீர்யவாந் ।
ஆஸஸாதாத லக்ஷ்மீவாந்
ராவணஸ்ய நிவேஸநம் ॥
sarvēṣāṃ samatikramya
rākṣasēndrasya vīryavān ।
āsasādātha lakṣmīvān
rāvaṇasya nivēṡanam ॥
After going over all of them,
he of valor and charm
finally reached the house of Rāvaṇa.

ததஸ்தஸ்மிந்க்ருஹே முக்யே
நாநாரத்நவிபூஷிதே ।
மேருமந்தரஸங்காஸே
ஸர்வமங்கலஸோபிதே ।
ப்ரதீப்தமக்நிமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய
லாங்கூலாக்ரே ப்ரதிஷ்டிதம் ।
நநாத ஹநுமாந்வீரோ
யுகாந்தஜலதோ யதா ॥
tatastasmingṛhē mukhyē
nānāratnavibhūṣitē ।
mērumandarasaṅkāṡē
sarvamaṅgalaṡōbhitē ।
pradīptamagnimutsṛjya
lāṅgūlāgrē pratiṣṭhitam ।
nanāda hanumānvīrō
yugāntajaladō yathā ॥
Roaring like the cloud of the Deluge,
Hanumān, the Veera, then dropped the
blazing fire, that was on the tip of his tail,
on that most important of the residences,
which was dazzling with every opulence,
adorned with many a kind of gem
and was lofty like Meru and Mandara.
