ativēgō mahābalaḥ ।
kālāgniriva jajvāla
prāvardhata hutāṡanaḥ ॥
Aided by the wind, the fire grew,
gathering great strength.
It spread with great speed
blazing like the fire of the Dissolution.

The wind carried the blazing fire
into all those houses and fanned by it,
the fire became a raging conflagration.

நூநமேஷோऽக்நிராயாத:
கபிரூபேண ஹா இதி ॥

rākṣasānāṃ pradhāvatām ।
svagṛhasya paritrāṇē
bhagnōtsāhōrjitaṡriyām ।
nūnamēṣō'gnirāyātaḥ
kapirūpēṇa hā iti ॥
And from the Rākshasas as they rushed out,
having lost all hopes of saving their
houses and splendid fortunes,
rose the wailing cry,
‘Alas, it is the god of fire himself
that has come in the guise of this Vānara!’

stanandhayadharāḥ striyaḥ ।
kāṡcidagniparītēbhyō
harmēbhyō muktamūrdhajāḥ ।
patantyō rējirē'bhrēbhyaḥ
saudāmanya ivāmbarāt ॥
Women carrying babies suckling
at the breast, fell screaming.
Some, their bodies enveloped
in flames and their hair in disarray,
fell from the building, resembling
lightning falling from the clouds in the sky.

uktārajatasaṃhitān ।
vicitrānbhavanāddhātūn
syandamānāndadarṡa saḥ ॥
He saw streams of a variety of (molten) minerals,
mixed with diamond, coral,
lazulite, pearl and silver,
running out of those buildings.

ந ஹநூமத்விஸஸ்தாநாம்
ராக்ஷஸாநாம் வஸுந்தரா ॥
nāgnistṛpyati kāṣṭhānām
tṛṇānāṃ ca yathā tathā ।
hanūmān rākṣasēndāṇām
vadhē kiṃcinna tṛpyati ।
na hanūmadviṡastānām
rākṣasānāṃ vasundharā ॥
Just as fire would not feel appeased
devouring merely wood and grass,
Hanumān was not content killing
the many great Rākshasas;
neither was the earth, with
the Rākshasas killed by Hanumān.

kvacicchālmalisannibhāḥ ।
kvacitkuṅkumasaṅkāṡāḥ
ṡikhā vahnēṡcakāṡirē ॥
The tongues of flame shone
like Kiṃṡuka flowers in some places,
like Ṡālmali flowers in others and
like saffron threads elsewhere.

laṅkāpuraṃ pradagdhaṃ tat
rudrēṇa tripuraṃ yathā ॥
That city of Laṅkā was burnt by Hanumān,
the mighty Vānara of terrific speed,
as the three cities were by Rudra.

tatastu laṅkāpuraparvatāgrē
samutthitō bhīmaparākramō'gniḥ ।
prasārya cūḍāvalayaṃ pradīptō
hanūmatā vēgavatā visṛṣṭaḥ ॥
The fire, of terrific prowess,
set by Hanumān, the swift one,
stretched its rings of blazing tongues of flame,
rising to reach the mountain crests of Laṅkā.

samārutō'gnirvavṛdhē divispṛk ।
vidhūmaraṡmirbhavanēṣu saktō
rakṣaṡṡarīrājyasamarpatārciḥ ॥
The smokeless fire from the
buildings rose to touch the sky,
with the bodies of the Rākshasas for fuel
and gaining a speed that equaled that of
the conflagration of Dissolution, fanned by the wind.

பிந்தந்நிவாண்டம் ப்ரபபௌ மஹாக்நி: ॥
ādityakōṭīsadṛṡassutējā
laṅkāṃ samastāṃ parivārya tiṣṭhan ।
ṡabdairanēkairaṡaniprarūḍhaiḥ
bhindannivāṇḍaṃ prababhau mahāgniḥ ॥
Its brilliance equaling that of a crore of suns,
the din it caused being as strong
as that of countless thunders,
flaring up as if it would make the universe explode,
that great fire enveloped the entire Laṅkā.

tatrāmbarādagniratipravṛddhō
rūkṣaprabhaḥ kiṃṡukapuṣpacūḍaḥ ।
nirvāṇadhūmākularājayaṡca
nīlōtpalābhāḥ pracakāṡirē'bhrāḥ ॥
The raging fire of dazzling brilliance
touched the sky, with its tongues
shining like Kiṃṡuka flowers.
The clouds, coated with the smoke
that arose from the fire that died down,
shone like black lilies.
