sālatālaṡilāyudhāḥ ॥
Taking the command of their master to heart,
they marched fast, armed with
Sāla and Tāla trees and boulders.

Thousands of those guards, Veeras,
who were on the ground and on the trees
attacked the Vānaras who were
haughty with their strength.

On seeing that furious Dadhimukha,
the bulls among Vānaras, such as Hanumān,
went running (towards him) swiftly.

Then the angry Aṅgada, with his hands,
hit the uncle of his father,
of immense strength and mighty arm,
who was armed with a tree.

vēgavadvasudhātalē ॥
Blinded by intoxication, he did not even realize
that he was the uncle of his own father,
(who deserved to be respected).
He threw him down on the ground and pummeled him.

vihvalaṡṡōṇitōkṣitaḥ ।
mumōha sahasā vīrō
muhūrtaṃ kapikuñjaraḥ ॥
His arms, thighs and shoulders smashed,
his head in a whirl, and with blood all over him,
that Veera, an elephant among Vānaras,
fell immediately in a swoon, for a while.

Regaining his senses and becoming furious,
that Vānara, uncle of the king,
tried to stop those inebriated Vānaras.

vānarairvānararṣabhaḥ ।

bhṛtyān svān samupāgatān ॥
Escaping somehow from those Vānaras,
that bull among Vānaras went aside
and spoke to his staff who gathered there:

Let them be there. Let us go to where our master,
Sugreeva of the broad neck, is, with Rāma.

We will tell the king that
it is all the fault of Aṅgada.
Enraged on hearing all about this,
he will punish the Vānaras.

This Madhuvana, that was passed on to him
by this fathers and forefathers,
which even the Dēvas dare not touch,
is dear to that king, a Mahātma.

madhulubdhān gatāyuṣaḥ ।
ghātayiṣyati daṇḍēna
sugrīvassasuhṛjjanān ॥
All these Vānaras, who are after the liquor,
are as good as dead; Sugreeva will punish
them with death and everyone who sides with them.

amarṣaprabhavō rōṣaḥ
saphalō nō bhaviṣyati ॥
These rascals, who disrespected the King’s orders,
indeed deserve to be killed.
Our resentment, born from being disdained,
will thus be redeemed.

vanapālaissamanvitaḥ ॥
Having said this to those guards of the Vana,
the mighty strong Dadhimukha
flew off immediately, along with the guards.

sa hi prāptō vanālayaḥ ।
sahasrāṃṡusutō dhīmān
sugrīvō yatra vānaraḥ ॥
In no time, that Vānara reached the place
where the sagacious Sugreeva,
the son of the Thousand-Rayed, was.
Thousand-Rayed refers to the sun.

He landed from the sky on the flat ground,
where he saw Rāma, Lakshmaṇa and Sugreeva.

க்ருத்வா ஸிரஸி சாஞ்ஜலிம் ।
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ய ஸுபௌ மூர்த்நா
சரணௌ பத்யபீடயத் ॥
sannipatya mahāvīryaḥ
sarvaistaiḥ parivāritaḥ ।
harirdadhimukhaḥ pālaiḥ
pālānāṃ paramēṡvaraḥ ।
sa dīnavadanō bhūtvā
kṛtvā ṡirasi cāñjalim ।
sugrīvasya ṡubhau mūrdhnā
caraṇau patyapīḍayat ॥
Descending along with the guards,
the Vānara Dadhimukha of great valor
and chief of all those guards,
joined his palms and placed them
on his head in reverence, with a woebegone face.
He then touched the auspicious
feet of Sugreeva with his head.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
ஸுந்தரகாண்டே த்விஷஷ்டிதமஸ்ஸர்க:॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
sundarakāṇḍē dviṣaṣṭitamassargaḥ॥
Thus concludes the sixty second Sarga
in Sundara Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
