Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 63
In this Sarga, Dadhimukha goes to Sugreeva, Rāma and Lakshmana and reports about the pillage of Madhuvana and about Aṅgada and other Vānaras beating up the guards. Sugreeva interprets it immediately as a sure sign of Vānaras having found Seetā, and he conveys the same to Rāma and Lakshmaṇa. Rāma and Lakshmaṇa are overjoyed. Sugreeva feels sure that the successful completion of the mission is now within hand’s reach.

vānaraṃ vānararṣabhaḥ ।
dṛṣṭvaivōdvignahṛdayō
vākyamētaduvāca ha ॥
Agitated by seeing that Vānara
fall (at his feet) with head bowed,
the bull among Vānaras said these words:

பாதயோ: பதிதோ மம ।

pādayōḥ patitō mama ।
abhayaṃ tē bhavēdvīra
sarvamēvābhidhīyatām ॥
Please, please get up.
What makes you fall at my feet?
You have nothing to fear,
valiant one, tell me everything!

vākyaṃ dadhimukhō'bravīt ॥
Thus assured by Mahātma Sugreeva,
the sagacious Dadhimukha got up and said:

na tvayā nāpi vālinā ।
vanaṃ nisṛṣṭapūrvaṃ hi
bhakṣitaṃ tacca vānaraiḥ ॥
The Vana that neither Ṛksharajas,
nor Vāli, nor you have ever thrown open to anyone
has been pillaged by the Vānaras.

ஏபி: ப்ரதர்ஷிதாஸ்சைவ
வாநரா வநரக்ஷிபி: ।
மதூந்யசிந்தயித்வேமாந்

vānarā vanarakṣibhiḥ ।
madhūnyacintayitvēmān
bhakṣayanti pibanti ca ॥
Even though these guards of the Vana
tried to stop them, they would not care.
They consumed the fruits and drank the liquor.

பக்ஷயந்தி ததாபரே ।
நிவார்யமாணாஸ்தே ஸர்வே

ṡiṣṭamatrāpavidhyanti
bhakṣayanti tathāparē ।
nivāryamāṇāstē sarvē
bhruvō vai darṡayanti hi ॥
Some threw away the left-overs,
while some drank them again.
When we tried to stop,
all of them raised their eyebrows at us.

இமே ஹி ஸம்ரப்ததரா:
ததா தைஸ்ஸம்ப்ரதர்ஷிதா: ।

imē hi saṃrabdhatarāḥ
tathā taissampradharṣitāḥ ।
vārayantō vanāttasmāt
kruddhairvānarapuṅgavaiḥ ॥
When stopped from (abusing) the Vana,
those bulls among Vānaras were angry
and threatened these (guards).

saṃraktanayanaiḥ krōdhāt
harayaḥ pravicālitāḥ ॥
O bull among Vānaras!
Then those Vānara Veeras,
their eyes turned red with anger,
drove away these Vānaras!

kēcijjānubhirāhatāḥ ।
prakṛṣṭāṡca yathākāmam
dēvamārgaṃ ca darṡitāḥ ॥
Some were slapped with hands and
some were pounded by knees.
They were dragged as was pleased,
and were shown the private parts.

These Ṡūras were assailed
while they are under your protection.
They pillaged and looted
the entire Madhuvana as they pleased.

lakṣmaṇaḥ paravīrahā ॥
While Sugreeva, the bull among Vānaras
was thus being informed,
the sagacious Lakshmaṇa,
the slayer of enemies, asked him:

vanapaḥ pratyupasthitaḥ ।
kaṃ cārthamabhinirdiṡya
duḥkhitō vākyamabravīt ॥
O King! Why did this Vānara,
curator of the Vana, come here?
Why is he so sad, and
what is he speaking about?

லக்ஷ்மணேந மஹாத்மநா ।

lakṣmaṇēna mahātmanā ।
lakṣmaṇaṃ pratyuvācēdam
vākyaṃ vākyaviṡāradaḥ ॥
Asked thus by Mahātma Lakshmaṇa,
Sugreeva, skilled in speech,
responded in these words to Lakshmaṇa:

விசித்ய தக்ஷிணாமாஸாம்
ஆகதைர்ஹரிபுங்கவை: ॥
ārya lakṣmaṇa samprāha
vīrō dadhimukhaḥ kapiḥ ।
aṅgadapramukhairvīraiḥ
bhakṣitaṃ madhu vānaraiḥ ।
vicitya dakṣiṇāmāṡām
āgatairharipuṅgavaiḥ ॥
O Lakshmaṇa! O Noble one! This Vānara,
a Veera by name Dadhimukha is saying that
liquor (in the Vana) was consumed
by the bulls among Vānaras like Aṅgada,
who have returned from searching the southern direction.

நைஷாமக்ருத்யாநாம்
ஈத்ருஸஸ்ஸ்யாதுபக்ரம: ।

தர்ஷிதம் ச வநம் க்ருத்ஸ்நம்
உபயுக்தம் ச வாநரை: ॥
naiṣāmakṛtyānām
īdṛṡassyādupakramaḥ ।
āgataiṡca pramathitam
yathā madhuvanaṃ hi taiḥ ।
dharṣitaṃ ca vanaṃ kṛtsnam
upayuktaṃ ca vānaraiḥ ॥
Had the Vānaras not accomplished their mission,
they would not venture to do something like this,
of occupying, enjoying and destroying the entire Madhuvana.

வநம் யதாऽபிபந்நாஸ்தே
ஸாதிதம் கர்ம வாநரை: ।
த்ருஷ்டா தேவீ ந ஸந்தேஹோ

sādhitaṃ karma vānaraiḥ ।
dṛṣṭā dēvī na sandēhō
na cānyēna hanūmatā ॥
Their heading straight to the Vana
tells that they have accomplished their mission.
Seetā is found, and without a doubt, it must be by Hanumān.
