Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 65
In this Sarga, Hanumān tells Rāma what he has seen of Seetā, how she was confined in the inner quarters of Rāvaṇa and how she was being threatened by the Rākshasis. Hanumān gives Rāma the Cūḍāmaṇi that Seetā gave him and tells the story of the crow she told him. He also conveys Seetā’s message that she cannot live any more than a month, confined by the Rākshasas.

ஸுக்ரீவமபிவாத்ய ச ।
ப்ரவ்ருத்திமத ஸீதாயா:
ப்ரவக்துமுபசக்ரமு: ॥
tataḥ prasravaṇaṃ ṡailam
tē gatvā citrakānanam ।
praṇamya ṡirasā rāmam
lakṣmaṇaṃ ca mahābalam ।
yuvarājaṃ puraskṛtya
sugrīvamabhivādya ca ।
pravṛttimatha sītāyāḥ
pravaktumupacakramuḥ ॥
Reaching the Prasravaṇa mountain
that was full of a variety of trees,
saluting Rāma and the mighty strong
Lakshmaṇa with their heads bowed
and saluting Sugreeva also,
the Vānaras, led by the crown prince,
began to relate the news about Seetā.

ராவணாந்த: புரே ரோதம்
ராக்ஷஸீபிஸ்ச தர்ஜநம் ।

ஏததாக்யாந்தி தே ஸர்வே
ஹரயோ ராமஸந்நிதௌ ॥
rāvaṇāntaḥ purē rōdham
rākṣasībhiṡca tarjanam ।
rāmē samanurāgaṃ ca
yaṡcāyaṃ samayaḥ kṛtaḥ ।
ētadākhyānti tē sarvē
harayō rāmasannidhau ॥
In the presence of Rāma, all the Vānaras
narrated about Seetā being confined
in Rāvaṇa’s inner quarters,
the threatening by the Rākshasis,
the deep love (of Seetā) for Rāma
and the time limit (set by Rāvaṇa).

வைதேஹீமக்ஷதாம் ஸ்ருத்வா
ராமஸ்தூத்தரமப்ரவீத் ॥
vaidēhīmakṣatāṃ ṡrutvā
rāmastūttaramabravīt ॥
Hearing that Vaidēhi was safe and unhurt, Rāma asked:

vaidēhīṃ prati vānarāḥ ॥
O Vānaras! Where is Seetā, my queen?
How does she hold me in her thoughts?

rāmasya gaditaṃ ṡrutvā
harayō rāmasannidhau ।
cōdayanti hanūmantam
sītāvṛttāntakōvidam ॥
Hearing what Rāma said,
the Vānaras urged Hanumān
who knew well how Seetā was doing,
(to speak) in the presence of Rāma.

ஸ்ருத்வா து வசநம் தேஷாம்
ஹநுமாந்மாருதாத்மஜ: ।

உவாச வாக்யம் வாக்யஜ்ஞ:
ஸீதாயா தர்ஸநம் யதா ॥
ṡrutvā tu vacanaṃ tēṣām
hanumānmārutātmajaḥ ।
praṇamya ṡirasā dēvyai
sītāyai tāṃ diṡaṃ prati ।
uvāca vākyaṃ vākyajñaḥ
sītāyā darṡanaṃ yathā ॥
Hearing their words, Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
turned in the direction in which the lady Seetā
was and prostrated to her, with his head bowed.
Then he, who was skilled with words,
narrated how Seetā was found:

ஸதயோஜநமாயதம் ।
அகச்சம் ஜாநகீம் ஸீதாம்

ṡatayōjanamāyatam ।
agacchaṃ jānakīṃ sītām
mārgamāṇō didṛkṣayā ॥
Eager to find Seetā, the daughter of Janaka,
I went searching, crossing the ocean
that was one hundred Yōjanas wide.

தத்ர லங்கேதி நகரீ
ராவணஸ்ய துராத்மந: ।
தக்ஷிணஸ்ய ஸமுத்ரஸ்ய

rāvaṇasya durātmanaḥ ।
dakṣiṇasya samudrasya
tīrē vasati dakṣiṇē ॥
There, on that southern shore of the southern sea,
is situated Laṅkā, the city of evil Rāvaṇa.

rāvaṇāntaḥ purē satī ।
sannyasya tvayi jīvantī
rāmā rāma manōratham ॥
There, I have seen, O Rāma,
the chaste and lovely lady Seetā,
in the inner quarters of Rāvaṇa,
hanging on to life, pinning all her hopes on you.

tarjyamānā muhurmuhuḥ ।
rākṣasībhirvirūpābhī
rakṣitā pramadāvanē ॥
I saw her in the women’s pleasance
in the midst of Rākshasis,
who were surrounding her, guarding her
and threatening her repeatedly.

பத்மிநீவ ஹிமாகமே ।
ராவணாத்விநிவ்ருத்தார்தா
மர்தவ்யக்ருதநிஸ்சயா ।
தேவீ கதஞ்சித்காகுத்ஸ்த
த்வந்மநா மார்கிதா மயா ॥
duḥkha māsādyatē dēvī
tathā'duḥkhōcitā satī ।
rāvaṇāntaḥ purē ruddhā
rākṣasībhissurakṣitā ।
ēkavēṇīdharā dīnā
tvayi cintāparāyaṇā ।
adhaḥṡayyā vivarṇāṅgī
padminīva himāgamē ।
rāvaṇādvinivṛttārthā
martavyakṛtaniṡcayā ।
dēvī kathañcitkākutstha
tvanmanā mārgitā mayā ॥
That lady, who deserves no suffering, is grieving
confined in the inner quarters of Rāvaṇa,
carefully guarded by the Rākshasis.
Dejected, her hair braided in a single plait,
thinking only about you,
lying down on the bare ground,
with every limb of hers colorless,
O Kākutstha, she is wilting
like lotus wine on the onset of winter.
Somehow, O Veera, I could locate her,
who is all but determined to give up her life,
turning away from the advances of Rāvaṇa.
