Yuddha Kaanda - Sarga 3
In this Sarga, Rāma asks Hanumān to describe to him the houses, fortifications and the armed forces of Laṅkā. Hanumān gives a full account of what he had seen in Laṅkā and how well protected it was by the fortifications and Rākshasa warriors. After doing so, he urges Rāma to pass on the orders to gather the forces and start the expedition.

Describe to me, O Vānara, how many defences
are there for the impenetrable Laṅkā,
what the size of the armed forces are,
how the forts and gateways are constructed,
how Laṅkā is fortified, and
also the houses of Rākshasas.
I like to have a clear idea about them,
as if I have seen them with my own eyes.

Please listen and I shall tell everything;
how Laṅkā is protected by the fortifications
and guarded by the armed forces,
how loyal the Rākshasas are,
how extremely opulent Laṅkā is, thanks to Rāvaṇa’s power,
how formidable (the barrier of) the ocean is,
how the armed forces are divided into contingents,
and how the mounts are deployed.

that can kill hundreds at a time,
attended by Rākshasa warriors
who are trained in operating them.

and coral, pearl and lazulite at intervals.

One of those bridges is exceptionally
strong, sturdy and unshakable;
it is supported by many golden pillars
and adorned with raised seats.
