    Yuddha Kaanda Sargas 21

    Yuddha Kaanda - Sarga 21
In this Sarga, Rāma lies down on the shore of the ocean, resolute on giving up his life, if the ocean does not appear in front of him, and reveal to him an Upāya to cross it. Even after lying down thus, observing rigorous discipline for three days, the ocean does not appear to him in person. Seeing his gentle pleadings go in vain, Rāma becomes annoyed with the ocean and shoots fierce arrows into it, setting it in turmoil. The worried Lakshmaṇa asks him to refrain and so do the Ṛshis from above in the sky.

Spreading Darbha on the shore of the ocean,

with his palms joined in reverence,

and lay down making his arm,
which was like a serpent’s body and

with gold ornaments, as his pillow.
