Yuddha Kaanda - Sarga 23
In this Sarga, Rāma describes the bad and terrifying omens he sees all around, which portend that a war is certain and so is the imminent loss of life both among Rākshasas and Vānaras.
Rāma, Lakshmaṇa, Sugreeva, Vibheeshaṇa and all the Vānaras march forward to attack Laṅkā from all sides.

Lakshmaṇa’s elder brother,
knowledgeable about (various kinds of) omens,
saw the omens (that then developed)
and said these words to Sowmitri,
as he embraced him:

Let us find woods that offer
cool water and fruits
to station the huge army,
divided into small battalions.

லோகக்ஷயகரம் பீமம்
பயம் பஸ்யாம்யுபஸ்திதம் ।

lōkakṣayakaraṃ bhīmam
bhayaṃ paṡyāmyupasthitam ।
nibarhaṇaṃ pravīrāṇām
ṛkṣavānararakṣasām ॥
I feel that a terrible disaster is imminent,
which will wipe out a large population and
destroy the bear, Vānara and Rākshasa warriors.
Rāma, based on the omens, does not see the possibility of Rāvaṇa returning Seetā and hence sees that war is imminent.

The wind is blowing, carrying dust.
The ground is in tremor,
the mountain crests are shaking
and the trees are tumbling down.

paruṣāḥ paruṣasvanāḥ ।
krūrāḥ krūraṃ pravarṣanti
miṡraṃ ṡōṇitabindubhiḥ ॥
Clouds look like Rākshasas,
pugnacious with a grating rumble.
They look savage, with their showers vicious
mixed with drops of blood.

jvalataḥ prapatatyētat

The evening sky is extremely terrifying
glowing like a paste of red sandal.
The flaming sun is spewing balls of fire.

Glum animals and birds everywhere
bark and bray eerily at the sun,
in despondent and terrifying tones,
rousing a great fear.

kṛṣṇaraktāṃṡuparyantō
lōkakṣaya ivōditaḥ ॥
The moon casts gloom everywhere,
hardly illuminating the night.
With red and black spots and rays,
he seems to rise like he would
when the world comes to an end.

hrasvō rūkṣō'praṡastaṡca
parivēṣaḥ sulōhitaḥ ।
ādityē vimalē nīlam
lakṣma lakṣmaṇa dṛṡyatē ॥
The halo around the sun
has become small and insignificant;
extremely reddish, it looks savage.
O Lakshmaṇa! There seems to appear a
black spot on the bright disc of the sun!

seem to presage the end of the Yuga!

with their lugubrious cries.

ṡailaiḥ ṡūlaiṡca khaḍgaiṡca
visṛṣṭaiḥ kapirākṣasaiḥ ।
bhaviṣyatyāvṛtā bhūmiḥ
māṃsaṡōṇitakardamā ॥
The earth will be covered under
the rocks, spears and swords
hurled by the Vānaras and the Rākshasas
and under the mire of flesh and gore.

purīṃ rāvaṇapālitām ।
abhiyāma javēnaiva
sarvatō haribhirvṛtāḥ ॥
Let us invade from all sides
with no further delay
the impregnable city ruled by Rāvaṇa,
taking the Vānaras with us.

dhanvī saṅgrāmadharṣaṇaḥ ।
pratasthē puratō rāmō
laṅkāmabhimukhō vibhuḥ ॥
Saying this, lord Rāma, the Dharmātma,
who could stand up to any enemy in a battle,
set out for Laṅkā, armed with the bow.

ஸவிபீஷணஸுக்ரீவா:
ஸர்வே தே வாநரர்ஷபா: ।

sarvē tē vānararṣabhāḥ ।

niṡcitā dviṣatāṃ vadhē ॥
All the bulls among Vānaras,
along with Sugreeva and Vibheeshaṇa
followed, letting off strident shouts,
resolved upon the slaughter of the foe.

ராகவஸ்ய ப்ரியார்தம் து
த்ருதாநாம் வீர்யஸாலிநாம் ।
ஹரீணாம் கர்மசேஷ்டாபி:

rāghavasya priyārthaṃ tu
dhṛtānāṃ vīryaṡālinām ।
harīṇāṃ karmacēṣṭābhiḥ
tutōṣa raghunandanaḥ ॥
The scion of the Raghus was vastly pleased
as he saw the brave and valiant Vānaras
exhibiting their feats of valor
and skill to win his approbation.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
யுத்தகாண்டே த்ரயோவிம்ஸ: ஸர்க:॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
yuddhakāṇḍē trayōviṃṡaḥ sargaḥ॥
Thus concludes the twenty third Sarga
in Yuddha Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
