Impatient, invincible and ever victorious,
valiant, intelligent and strong,
he is Rāma’s right hand, the very breath
of his life moving outside the body.

ṡrīmatā rājarājēna
laṅkāyāmabhiṣēcitaḥ ।
tvāmēva pratisaṃrabdhō
yuddhāyaiṣō'bhivartatē ॥
To his left stands, taking respite in Rāma
and with the group of Rakshasas around him
is the king Vibheeshaṇa, who was consecrated
as the king of Laṅkā by the glorious king of kings.
He is ready to fight you in his intense resentment.

ஏதாம் ச மாலாம் தாராம் ச
கபிராஜ்யம் ச ஸாஸ்வதம் ।
ஸுக்ரீவோ வாலிநம் ஹத்வா
ராமேண ப்ரதிபாதித: ॥

madhyē girimivācalam ।
sarvaṡākhāmṛgēndrāṇām
bhartāramamitaॏjasam ।
tējasā yaṡasā buddhyā
jñānēnābhijanēna ca ।
yaḥ kapīnatibabhrāja
himavāniva parvatān ।
kiṣkindhāṃ yaḥ samadhyāstē
guhāṃ sagahanadrumām ।
durgāṃ parvatadurgasthām
pradhānaiḥ saha yūthapaiḥ ।
yasyaiṣā kāñcanī mālā
ṡōbhatē ṡatapuṣkarā ।
kāntā dēvamanuṣyāṇām
yasyāṃ lakṣmīḥ pratiṣṭhitā ।
ētāṃ ca mÄ lāṃ tārāṃ ca
kapirājyaṃ ca ṡāṡvatam ।
sugrīvō vālinaṃ hatvā
rāmēṇa pratipāditaḥ ॥
This one, whom you see standing in the center
firm like a mountain, is the immensely powerful
lord of the chiefs of the beasts of the branches.
He outshines all the Vānaras by his power, renown,
intelligence, knowledge and the coterie he keeps
like Himavān among the mountains.
He, along with other chief commanders,
rules the impenetrable cavern of Kishkindhā
along with the valley of the thickets,
which is protected by mountains (on all sides).
The age-old kingdom of the Vānaras,
the shining garland of a hundred gold lotuses
in which abide the riches of Dēvas and humans
and Tara were given to him by Rāma, after he slew Vāli.

Surrounded by a great army of a thousand crores,
hundred Ṡankhas, a thousand Mahāsankhas,
hundred Vṛindas and a thousand Mahāvṛndas,
hundred Padmas and a thousand Mahāpadmas,
hundred Kharvas and a hundred Samudras
and a Mahaugha, which is as vast as the ocean,
and along with the valiant Vibheeshaṇa and ministers,
Sugreeva, the lord of Vānaras, of immense strength
and prowess, is here to fight you.

yathā jayaḥ syānna paraiḥ parājayaḥ ॥
Considering this vast army, O King,
which sits like a nefarious burning planet,
an utmost effort should be made
so that victory, and not defeat
at the hands of the enemies, is ensured.

mahāpadmasahasrēṇa
tathā kharvaṡatēna ca ।
samudrēṇa ṡatēnaiva
mahaughēna tathaiva ca ।
ēṣa kōṭimahaughēna
samudrasadṛṡēna ca ।
vibhīṣaṇēna sacivai
rākṣasaiḥ parivāritaḥ ।
sugrīvō vānarēndrastvām
yuddhārthamabhi vartatē ।
mahābalavṛtō nityam
mahābalaparākramaḥ ॥
Surrounded by a great army of a thousand crores,
hundred Ṡankhas, a thousand Mahāsankhas,
hundred Vṛindas and a thousand Mahāvṛndas,
hundred Padmas and a thousand Mahāpadmas,
hundred Kharvas and a hundred Samudras
and a Mahaugha, which is as vast as the ocean,
and along with the valiant Vibheeshaṇa and ministers,
Sugreeva, the lord of Vānaras, of immense strength
and prowess, is here to fight you.

உபஸ்திதாம் ப்ரஜ்வலிதக்ரஹோபமாம் ।

யதா ஜய: ஸ்யாந்ந பரை: பராஜய: ॥
imāṃ mahārāja samīkṣya vāhinīm
upasthitāṃ prajvalitagrahōpamām ।
tataḥ prayatnaḥ paramō vidhīyatāṃ
yathā jayaḥ syānna paraiḥ parājayaḥ ॥
Considering this vast army, O King,
which sits like a nefarious burning planet,
an utmost effort should be made
so that victory, and not defeat
at the hands of the enemies, is ensured.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
யுத்தகாண்டே அஷ்டாவிம்ஸ: ஸர்க:॥
