Hearing that you were killed while asleep
and that I have been held captive
in the house of a Rākshasa,
her heart will be in shatters and
she will not survive, O Rāghava!

The wife of Rāma of noble lineage,
turned out to be his death.

I must have, in one of my past lives,
obstructed the highest of the giveaways
(of giving one’s daughter away in marriage);
for, here I am grieving, being the wife of one
who was charitable enough to treat
everyone in the world as his esteemed guest.

husband’s head and at the bow.

with his palms joined in reverence.

he entered the assembly and did the same.

what should be done regarding Rāma.

that were standing not too far from him
and were zealous in furthering his interest:

beating it with the drum-stick with all vigor;
no reasons should be given.

Receiving his orders and saying,
‘it will be done’, the army chiefs
gathered the tremendous forces and informed
their belligerent master
that the forces were assembled.

ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
யுத்தகாண்டே த்வாத்ரிம்ஸ: ஸர்க:॥
