prasuptau puruṣarṣabhau ॥
These two bulls among men,
on whom I pinned my hopes of securing sovereignty
lie here deeply unconscious,
with their bodies on the verge of deterioration.

sakāmō rāvaṇaḥ kṛtaḥ ॥
My dream of gaining the kingdom is dashed,
and my life itself is at risk,
while my enemy Rāvaṇa has
made good his boast and realized his wish.

As Vibheeshaṇa thus lamented,
the powerful Sugreeva, King of Vānaras,
embraced him and said:

rājyaṃ prāpsyasi dharmajña
laṅkāyāṃ nātra saṃṡayaḥ ।
rāvaṇaḥ saha putrēṇa
sakāmaṃ nēha lapsyatē ॥
O Dharmajña! You will attain
the kingdom of Laṅkā without a doubt.
Neither Rāvaṇa, nor his sons
shall have their wishes fulfilled.

ubhau rāghavalakṣmaṇau ।
tyaktvā mōhaṃ vadhiṣyētē
sagaṇaṃ rāvaṇaṃ raṇē ॥
Rāghava and Lakshmaṇa are not
in the grip of a death-pang,
they are in a faint; on recovering,
they will destroy Rāvaṇa and
all his retinue in the battle.

samāṡvāsya ca rākṣasam ।

Having thus consoled and pacified the Rākshasa,
Sugreeva said to Sushēṇa, his father-in-law,
who was by his side:

labdhasañjñāvarindamau ।
gaccha tvaṃ bhrātarau gṛhya
kiṣkindhāṃ rāmalakṣmaṇau ॥
Go back to Kishkindhā along with
contingents of valiant Vānaras,
taking these brothers Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
subduers of the foe, with you,
as soon as they regain consciousness.

ahaṃ tu rāvaṇaṃ hatvā
saputraṃ sahabāndhavam ।
maithilīmānayiṣyāmi
ṡakrō naṣṭāmiva ṡriyam ॥
I shall slay Rāvaṇa, his sons and all his kin,
and bring Maithili, just as Ṡakra recovered his lost wealth.

சாதயந்தோ முஹுர்முஹு: ॥
daivāsuraṃ mahadyuddham
anubhūtaṃ sudāruṇam ।
tadā sma dānavā dēvān
ṡarasaṃsparṡakōvidāḥ ।
nijaghnuḥ ṡastraviduṣaḥ
chādayantō muhurmuhuḥ ॥
I have witnessed an immense and extremely fierce
battle between the Dēvas and the Asuras.
In that battle the Dānavas, skilled in archery,
struck down the Dēvas who were experts in Ṡastras
by hiding themselves from view again and again.

தாநார்தாந்நஷ்டஸஞ்ஜ்ஞாம்ஸ்ச

ஓஷதீபிஸ்சிகித்ஸதி ॥
tānārtānnaṣṭasañjñāṃṡca
gatāsūṃṡca bṛhaspatiḥ ।
vidyābhirmantrayuktābhiḥ
ōṣadhībhiṡcikitsati ॥
When they were distraught and
lost consciousness and even their Prāṇa,
Bṛihaspati helped them recover with
his knowledge of healing chants and herbs.

தாந்யௌஷதாந்யாநயிதும்
க்ஷீரோதம் யாந்து ஸாகரம் ।

kṣīrōdaṃ yāntu sāgaram ।
javēna vānarāḥ ṡīghram
sampātipanasādayaḥ ॥
Let the Vānaras Saṃpāti, Panasa and others
start immediately and go quickly
to the milky ocean to bring those herbs.

ஹரயஸ்து விஜாநந்தி
பார்வதீஸ்தா மஹௌஷதீ: ।

pārvatīstā mahauṣadhīḥ ।
sañjīvakaraṇīṃ divyām
viṡalyāṃ dēvanirmitām ॥
The Vānaras know those great herbs
that grow on the mountain there.
Let them fetch the divine herbs
created by the Dēvas, which
revive the dead and make men whole.

சந்த்ரஸ்ச நாம த்ரோணஸ்ச
க்ஷீரோதே ஸாகரோத்தமே ।

candraṡca nāma drōṇaṡca
kṣīrōdē sāgarōttamē ।
amṛtaṃ yatra mathitam
tatra tē paramauṣadhī ॥
Those prime herbs are to be found
on the mountains Candra and Drōṇa
situated in the milky ocean, the best of oceans,
where Amṛt was churned out.

தௌ தத்ர விஹிதௌ தேவை:
பர்வதௌ தௌ மஹோததௌ ।
அயம் வாயுஸுதோ ராஜந்

tau tatra vihitau dēvaiḥ
parvatau tau mahōdadhau ।
ayaṃ vāyusutō rājan
hanumāṃstatra gacchatu ॥
Those two mountains were established
in that great ocean by the Dēvas themselves.
Let Hanumān, the son of Vāyu, go there, O King!

ஏதஸ்மிந்நந்தரே வாயு:
மேகாம்ஸ்சாபி ஸவித்யுத: ।
பர்யஸ்யந் ஸாகரே தோயம்

mēghāṃṡcāpi savidyutaḥ ।
paryasyan sāgarē tōyam
kampayanniva mēdinīm ॥
At that moment strong winds blew
scattering clouds that issued lightning,
sending up the water sky-high on the sea,
and shaking the earth, as it were.

மஹதா பக்ஷவாதேந
ஸர்வத்வீபமஹாத்ருமா: ।
நிபேதுர்பிந்நவிடபா:

sarvadvīpamahādrumāḥ ।
nipēturbhinnaviṭapāḥ
samūlā lavaṇāmbhasi ॥
That strong wind from the wings (of Garuḍa)
snapped the boughs of all the
huge trees on the islands and uprooted them,
throwing them into the salty ocean.

அபவந் பந்நகாஸ்த்ரஸ்தா
போகிநஸ்தத்ரவாஸிந: ।

abhavan pannagāstrastā
bhōginastatravāsinaḥ ।
ṡīghraṃ sarvāṇi yādāṃsi
jagmuṡca lavaṇārṇavam ॥
The huge hooded serpents that
lived there were terrified.
All aquatic monsters quickly
disappeared in the salt sea.
