As soon as he came out of the palace,
he told the resident commander of the forces,
‘Hasten quickly the forces that are ready to fight,
and I hope there is no reason for delay!’

With a variety of weapons, spears, Mudgaras,
maces, Paṭṭisas, rods, iron pestles, Parighas,
Bhindipālas, Bhallas, Prāsas and hatchets
in their hands, the fierce Rākshasas
marched forth, roaring like clouds.

Other tigers among Rākshasas,
as unapproachable as tigers,
marched forth clad in mail;
some rode chariots that were adorned
with flags and decked with gold lattices
and drawn by mules with different kinds of faces,
and some rode on fleet-footed horses,
and others on powerful tuskers oozing ichor.

donkeys adorned with gold trappings,
their faces resembling those of wolves or lions.

Dēvas rained blood and the earth shook.

thunder blew in his face.
Billows of darkness engulfed
all the cardinals, dimming them.

rākṣasānāṃ bhayāvahān ।
prādurbhūtān sughōrāṃṡca
dhūmrākṣō vyathitō'bhavat ।
mumuhū rākṣasāḥ sarvē
dhūmrākṣasya purassarāḥ ॥
On seeing those extremely frightful and
ominous portents that struck terror in the Rākshasas,
Dhūmrāksha was extremely worried.
And all the Rākshasas who were marching
ahead of him were stupefied.

தத: ஸுபீமோ பஹுபிர்நிஸாசரை:

மஹௌககல்பாம் பஹுவாநரீம் சமூம் ॥
tataḥ subhīmō bahubhirniṡācaraiḥ
vṛtō'bhiniṣkramya raṇōtsukō balī ।
dadarṡa tāṃ rāghavabāhupālitāṃ
mahaughakalpāṃ bahuvānarīṃ camūm ॥
Attended by a huge body of Night-rovers,
the strong and fierce warrior
emerged out of the city eager for the fight,
and saw the army composed of numerous Vānaras
that resembled a huge ocean,
protected by the strong arm of Rāghava.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
யுத்தகாண்டே ஏகபஞ்சாஸ: ஸர்க:॥

Thus concludes the fifty first Sarga
in Yuddha Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
