    They advanced with great enthusiasm
only to fall down on the ground,
    their bodies and necks severed
    and every limb oozing blood.

Some other daring fighters who never
turned their back on the battle-field,
who wielded Parighas in their hands,
sought out and assailed each other
    with a variety of weapons.
This Ṡlōka seems to be unauthentic. Only Rākshasas wield Parighas. Vānaras fight throwing rocks and trees. This Ṡlōka says both are fighting with Parighas.

heart-splitting din from the (impact of)
    trees, rocks and weapons.

    the rumbling of chariot-wheels,
    the twanging of bowstrings,
the blare of conches and the
    beatings of drums and Mṛdaṅgas.

Some, having expended all their weapons,
began fighting with their bare hands.
    Some Rākshasas were dead
    with their bodies mangled,
    beaten by the Vānaras with
open palms, fists, feet and knees.
