Who Is Mother ?
Short answer: She is every thing
No one can describe a mother's affection to its child . The real meaning of mother cannot be elobrated in words.
Mothers are a gift from God.
A mother loves her child perhaps a little more than herself!!. Mother represents colorless love that knows no barter, love that never dies. Who can have such love? Only mother, not son, nor daughter, nor wife.
Mother is not a relation like others. Our consciousness and every other relations originates from our mother
As Swami Vivekananda further expresses:
"Our mother! -- We want to die with our head on her lap once more, if we die before her.
Adi Shankaracharya too, as promised, returned to Kaladi during the last days of his mother. As a monk is not eligible to conduct funeral rites, the villagers refused to help Sankara. Unperturbed, Sankara cremated her himself, thus fullfilling his promise made to his mother.
He laments to the lady who was his mother and points out how his conscience is pricking him for being not able to do the duty of a son.
Adi Sankara's only verse other than various slokas and commentaries, is Mathru Panchakam rendered in five different ragas - Yaman Kalyani, Bhagesree, Behag, Kapi and Sindhubhairav

நைருச்யம் தனுசோஷணம் மலமயீ சய்யாச ஸாம்வத்ஸரீ
ஏகஸ்யாபி ந கர்ப்ப பாரபரண க்லேசஸ்ய யஸ்யாக்ஷம:
தாதும் நிஷ்க்ருதி முன்னதோபி தனய: தஸ்யை ஜனன்யை நம:
குருகுல முபஸ்ருத்ய ஸ்வப்ன காலேது த்ருஷ்ட்வா யதி ஸமுசித வேஷம் ப்ராவ்ருதோமாம் த்வ முச்சை:
குருகுல மத ஸர்வம் ப்ராரு தத்தே ஸமக்ஷம் ஸபதி சரண யோஸ்தே மாதரஸ்து ப்ரணாம: .
ந கஸ்தம் மாகஸ்தே மரண மையே தோயமபி வா
ஸ்வதாவா நோ தத்தா மரண திவஸே ச்ராத்த விதினா
ந ஜப்தோ மாதஸ்தே மரணஸமயே தாரக மனு:
அகாலே ஸம்ப்ராப்தே மயிகுரு தயாம் மாதர துலாம்
முக்தாமணிஸ்த்வம் நயனம் மமேதி ராஜேதி ஜீவேதி சிரம் ஸ¤ தத்வாம் இக்யுக்தவத்யாஸ்தவ வாசி மாதர் ததாம்யஹம் தண்டுல மேவசுஷ்கம்
அம்பேதி தாதேதி சிவேதி தஸ்மின் ப்ரஸதி காலே யதவோச உச்சை க்ருஷ்ணேதி கோவிந்த ஹரே முகுந்தேத் யஹோ ஜனன்யை ரசிதோய மஞ்ஜலி
Probably the Highest respect is given to Mother by Hindu Brahmin when he is doing Gaya Srardham by offering 16 pindams out of 64 to mother.
