Can a person whose father is alive perform pitru tarpanam part of brahmayagnam? Iam asking this because my son performs that pitru tarpanam. Kibdly clear this doubt of mine sir.

Brahma Yajgnam itself not Pitru Tarpanam
its done in addition to pitru Tarpanam.
Brahma Yajgnam is done towards rushis not pitrus.

And it is better ask him who advised him and what is the 'pramaanam / evidence/ for that.
