    BENGALI GHOSTS

    1. Bromhodoityo

The most elite class of Ghosts. Whenever a Brahmin would die of unnatural death, he would turn into a Bramhodoityo. Said to wear sacred Thread - Poiute, and dhoti they are friendly and helpful. Though be careful if you meet them, they are a bit obnoxious because of their in-depth knowledge of Sanskrit and Shastras.

    2. Shankhchunni

These ghosts are married women! Yes, read it right. Their names come from the fact that after death they still continue to wear bangles made of Shells (conch) - a typical bangle worn by Bengali women after their marriage.

    3. Petni

Petnis are the women ghosts who often have died before marriage or still haunting their unfilled desires from their living time. They are very vicious and cunning.

    4. Mamdo Bhoot

Mamdos are the Bengali Muslim Ghosts who died unnatural deaths and often have long beards and wear skull caps.

    5. Gechho Bhoot

The Gechho’s lives in trees, and hence the name. Be careful when you cross a tree at night!

    6. Mechho Bhoot

These ghosts are obsessed with eating fishes. Bengali after all. They can beg, borrow, steal or even kill to get hold of that one fresh piece, especially if it is Hilsa.

    7. Daaini

The Bengali version of Witches. Dianis is old who lives in a secluded area and practices black magic. They are rumoured to hunt down children and turn them into animals. Remember the old stories of ‘Diani Bhuri’s’ our mothers used to tell us.

    8 Nishi Or Nishi Daak
They call you by your name three times, at midnight, if you respond within that, your life is taken away. Be careful if someone only calls you 3 times and never responds back.

    Happy Sleeping
