  • Through which side of the gate should we enter Temple

Through which side of the gate should we enter a Temple?

A Temple may have many Gopurams and Entrances, but it is preferable to enter the Temple through East Facing Gopuram Gate

Once you enter the Temple , Keep left always and that is Pradakshina to the temple and also to the Sthala Virutcham tree which is in front of the temple!

If you are standing before the tree there are only two sides to the temple. Go through the left side of the tree (mostly Southern side) to the temple and for coming out use the other side of the tree (mostly Northern side).

Yes. Pradakshina (clockwise) is the rule for Devakarya.

Pradakshina, meaning circumambulation, consists of walking around in a circle as a form of worship in Hindu temple ceremonies in India. The devotees walk around the sanctum sanctorum, the innermost chamber of the shrine housing the temple deity. Pradakshina is done in a clockwise direction. Circumbulatory walking around the shrine, by keeping time, is a common form of Hindu prayer. The pathway made of stone around the shrine is called the pradakshina path.

The Clockwise Rotation or Right is Dakshina (South): Straightforward, honest, impartial, amiable, compliant, submissive and auspicious.

Pradakshina, a clockwise rotation, around the sacred fire is also a part of the Hindu marriage ceremony. Aarti is an auspicious occasion and so clockwise rotation is made.

Apradakshina (anticlockwise) is the rule for Pitrukarya (ancestor worship).
