    Jakhoo Temple, Shimla

The Jakhoo Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. It is believed that this temple holds the footprints of Lord Hanuman. It is located on the Jakhoo Hill, which is 2.5 km from the Ridge and offers beautiful views of the Shivalik Mountains and the nearby town of Sanjauli. It is the highest peak in Shimla and gives shelter to countless playful monkeys which can be found waiting to be fed by visitors.

There are a number of legends associated with the origin of the temple, one of which states that Lord Hanuman stopped at the Jhakhu Hill when he was looking for Sanjeevani herb. He met sage Yaaku on the hilltop and then moved ahead in his journey.

The intricate carvings and paintings on the walls of this religious edifice testify the expertise of architects and artisans. The 108 feet high idol of Lord Hanuman is the major highlight of the temple. Dussehra is one of the most important festivals celebrated here. The shrine witnesses a hug
