    Lust to Love

    When you love, you settle down, nothing more is needed. You can just sit here for a lifetime. With lust you cannot sit anywhere. You either get into some mad action, or you are bound to go crazy.

    SADGURU

    Gītā says–

    Bg 2.62 — While contemplating the objects of the senses, a person develops attachment for them, and from such attachment lust develops, and from lust anger arises.

    Bg 2.63 — From anger, complete delusion arises, and from delusion bewilderment of memory. When memory is bewildered, intelligence is lost, and when intelligence is lost one falls down again into the material pool.

    Bg 2.60 — The senses are so strong and impetuous, O Arjuna, that they forcibly carry away the mind even of a man of discrimination who is endeavoring to control them.

    In above quotes Lord Krishna is explaining Arjun how Lust arises & how difficult is to control them.There are many learned sages, philosophers and transcendentalists who try to conquer the senses, but in spite of their endeavors, even the greatest of them sometimes fall victim to material sense enjoyment due to the agitated mind. Even Viśvāmitra, a great sage and perfect yogī,was misled by Menakā into sex enjoyment, although the yogī was endeavoring for sense control with severe types of penance and yogapractice. And, of course, there are so many similar instances in the history of the world. Therefore, it is very difficult to control the mind and senses.

    How to defeat- enemy Lust:

    Unless all of the senses are engaged in the service of the Lord, even one of them engaged in sense gratification can deviate the devotee from the path of transcendental advancement. As mentioned in the life of Mahārāja Ambarīṣa, all of the senses must be engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, for that is the correct technique for controlling the mind.

    Swami Vivekananda said:

    What is the world but a combination of stomach and sex? Look at millions of men and women -- that is what they are living for. Take these away from them and they will find their life empty, meaningless, and intolerable. Such are we. And such is our mind; it is continually hankering for ways and means to satisfy the hunger of the stomach and sex. All the time this is going on. There is also endless suffering; these desires of the body bring only momentary satisfaction and endless suffering. It is like drinking a cup of which the surface layer is nectar, while underneath all is poison. But we still hanker for all these things.

    Bhagavan Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa said:

    After the birth of one or two children, husband and wife should live as brother and sister and talk only of God. Then both their minds will be drawn to God, and the wife will be a help to the husband on the path of spirituality. None can taste divine bliss without giving up his animal feeling. A devotee should pray to God to help him get rid of this feeling. It must be a sincere prayer. God is our Inner Controller; He will certainly listen to our prayer if it is sincere.

    dhyāyato viṣayān puṃsaḥ saṅgas teṣūpajāyate | saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho’bhijāyate ||
    2:62. When one deliberates upon sense-objects, attachment to them arises; from attachment is born desire, from desire arises anger;

    So in this verse Krishna is talking about all the FIVE senses and not specifically lust - i.e. sexual desire. When any strong attachment and craving for material pleasures and objects is frustrated it leads to anger and the other cascade of events mentioned in Adhokshaja Das’ post.

    Hinduism teaches that ALL attachment (sanga) and craving (tṛṣṇa) for objects of the five senses - music, food, scents, tactile pleasures and sex are obstacles to one’s spiritual evolution, achievement of happiness and should be relinquished.
