According to Hindul egends, it is believed that Lord Rama and his father king Dasharath did penance here. There we can also observe the footprint's of Lord Rama at this location.
The confluence of these two rivers is a splendid visionary to watch. Here, the merging of two rivers can be identified in a very clear way, Bhagirathi river flows in an extreme green colour whereas the Alakananda river appears to be pale yellow in colour.Ultimately they two merge together to flow as river Ganga. The other four prayagsare Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, Nandaprayag, Vishnuprayag. On the upper part of the mountain, there is a temple dedicated to Raghunathji (Lord Vishnu) built ofhuge stones with a cupola on the top. This place is 74 Kmfrom Rishikesh. The nearest railway station is JollyGrantAirport, Dehradun. Youcan easily navigate through train by Rishikesh railway station. And, can beeasily accessible by road.
