  • KAARADAYAR NONBU.

    This year karadayar nonbu falls on 10-03-2013 at 4-30 PM to 4-50pm. as per driganitha panchangam.Powder raw kaar rice and add toordhall and make it as adai. Draw kolams in the pooja room lit kuthu vilakku. according to number of females in that house place banana leaves. nuni facing north or east. The number of banana leaves should be in even numbers.

    At the nuni place of the banana leaf place 2 betels, 2 betel nuts, one banana fruit, and manjal coated twine nool (saradu) adorned with flower on one edge of the saradu. put 2 jaggery adai and 2 hot adai and butter. All the female members of the family must stand before the leaves , pour water three times clockwise round the banana leaf.

    Utter ''urugaatha vennayum oradiyum undaanaalum oru naalum en kanavar ennai vittu priyathu irukka vendum."

    Then the eldest female member of the family used to tie one saradu to the amman and another on her neck saying the following slokam. DHORAM GRUHNAMI SUBHAGAY SAHAARIDHRAM DHARAAMYAHAM BARTHUHU AAYUSHYA SIDHYARTHAM SUPREETHA BHAVA SARVATHA.

    then she has to tie for all the members of her family saying this slokam.Then all of them must eat the adai. On the next day morning 2 adais will be given to the cow.

    This nonbu must be done only in the month of maasi. On this day you may take only fruits and milk.you should not take curd or butter milk on vradam days. Diabetus people may take sathumaavu with milk.

      THIS WILL FALL IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE MONTH OF MAASI AND BEGINING OF THE MONTH PANGUNI.. HOWEVER , THIS NONBU SHOULD BE PERFORMED JUST BEFORE THE 'MASI' MONTH

      ENDS.THIS IS MAINLY FOR SUMANGALIS AND GIRLS. THIS HAS TO BE PERFORMED AT THE EXACT TIME OF THE BIRTH OF THE MONTH. FOR EXAMPLE IF HE BIRTH OF THE MONTH TAKES PLACE BEFORE

      TWO'O' CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON SOME WILL TAKE ONLY PLAIN COFFEE IN THE MORNING. IF IT COMES IN THE EVENING HOURS , THEY WILL TAKE LIGHT TIFFEN SUCH AS BEATEN RICE FLAKES,

      CHAPPAATHI, SATHUMAAVU.WHICH SHOULD BE COOKED FRESH AND EATEN.

      IF THE BIRTH OF THE MONTH FALLS ON NIGHT TIME SOME WILL TAKE MEALS IN THE MORNING AND SOME WILL TAKE TIFFEN ONLY AT NOON. JUST 2 HOURS BEFORE THE BIRTH OF TAMIL MONTH

      PANGUNI THOSE WHO PERFORM THIS NONBU WILL TAKE OIL BATH, AND IN SOME FAMILIES AS IT IS MADHA PIRAPPU THARPANAM IS THERE THEY WILL NEVER TAKE OIL BATH.AFTER BEING TAKEN OIL OR

      ORDINARY SNAANAM THEY WILL START PREPARING KAARADAI.

      IN SOME HOUSES BOTH SWEET (JAGGERY) AND SALT ADAI WILL BE PREPARED. CIRCULAR JAGGERY ADAIS IN THE SHAPE OF VADAIS WILL BE PREPARED. AND ALSO IN SOME HOUSES SOME SEVEN OR

      EIGHT JAGGERY ADAIS IN THE SHAPE OF BRICKS.

      FOR THE POOJA WE REQUIRE BETEL LEAVES, BETEL NUTS, BUTTER, FLOWERS, PLANTAIN FRUITS,TURMERIC, KUMKUMAM, AND SANDAL PASTE. A YELLOW THREAD (SARADU) WITH A FLOWER TIED IN THE

      CENTRE.

      COUNT THE NUMBER OF SUMANGALIS AND THE GIRLS IN THE HOUSE. DRAW SMALL PATTERNS OF RANGOLI FACING EAST, EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF PERSONS PRESENT.IF THE NUMBER IS IN ODD NUMBER

      DRAW KOLA TO THE NEXT EVEN NUMBERS. PLACE ON THE RANGOLI KOLAMS A SMALL PLANTAIN LEAF WITH TOP EDGES INTACT.SPRINKLE WATER OVER THESE LEAVESAND PLACE TWO JAGGERY AND 2 SALT

      ADAI, PLACE SOME BUTTER ON THE LEAVES. WITHOUT TOUCHING THE LEAVES AND NEAR TO THE LEAVES PLACE 2 BETELS, 2BETEL NUT, ONE PLANTAIN FRUIT AND ONE FLOWER TIED SARADU.

      THE WOMAN AND GIRLS PERFORMING THE NONBU , AFTER TAKING BATH, SHOULD WEAR NEW OR FRESHLY WASHED CLOTHES, APPLY KUMKUMAM ON THEIR FOREHEAD, APPLYING SANDAL PASTE ON THEIR

      HANDS. WEARING FLOWERS ON THEIR HEADS, THEY SHOULD STAND BEFORE THE PLANTAIN LEAVES,FACING EAST OR NORTH AND PERFORM NEIVEDHYAM SIMULTANEAOUSLY FOR BOTH THE PLANTAIN LEAF AND

      BETEL LEAVES.AND TAKE OUT THE YELLOW THREAD AND TIE IT AROUND THEIR NECKS.

      DURING NEIVEDHYAM THEY WILL SAY " URUGAATHA VENNAIYUM ORADAIYUM UNDAANAALUM ORUKKALUM ENNAI VITTU EN KANAVAR PRIYAADHIRUKKA VENDUM".THE ELDEST MEMBER OF THAT FAMILY WILL

      HAVE TWO SARADU. ONE SHE WILL WEAR AND ANOTHER FOR THE SWAMY PADAM .AND ALSO FOR THE SMALL GIRLS SHE WILL TIE THEM ON THEIR NECKS.ONE SLOKAM IS THERE TO UTTER WHILE TYING THE

      SARADU ON THEIR NECK. "DHORAM GRUNNAMI SUBHAGAE SAHARIDHRAM DHARAAM YAHAM BARTHUHU AAYUSHYA SIDHYARTHAM SUPREETHA BAVA SARVADHA"

      AFTER GETTING THE BLESSINGS FROM THE ELDERS OF THE HOUSE THEY WILL KEEP ASIDE THE BRICK SHAPPED/ROUND SHAPPED ADAI WITH SOME BUTTER FROM THE LEAF TO BE GIVEN TO THE

      HUSBAND AND THEN EAT THE ADAIS

      THOSE WHO OBSERVE NONBU SHOULD TAKE ONLY LIGHT TIFFIN ON THAT WHOLE DAY. iF THE NONBU TIME COMES AT 10 A M IN THE MORNING THEY SHOUKD TAKE ONLY TIFFIN ON THAT NIGHT ALSO.

      ON THE NEXT DAY MORNING THE LADIES OBSERVING THE NONBU WILL APPLY TURMERIC AND KUMKUMAM ON THE FOREHEAD OF THE COW AND GIVE SOME ADAIS TO THE COW.

      IF THERE ARE OBSTACLES THAT PREVENT OBSERVING NONBU IN ONE"S OWN HOUSE THE YELLOW THREAD (SARADU) CAN BE KEPT IN A NEIGHBOUR'S HOUSE WHO WILL BE PERFORMING THE NONBU AND

      AFTER THE USUAL POOJA AND NEIVEDHYAM IS OVER IT CAN BE TIED OVER THE NECK UTTERING SLOKAM. YOU SHOULD NOT TAKE BUTTERMILK/CURD ON THE WHOLE DAY.
