    Hare Krishna ISKCON Temple, BangaloreThe ISKCON temple in Bangalore is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is one of the largest Hare Krishna temples in the world. Founded by Swami Prabhupada, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness or Hare Krishna Movement has a mission of propagating Gaudiya Vaishnavism. The temple, which was inaugurated in 1997, has 6 shrines. While Radha & Krishna are the main shrines, the others are Krishna Balrama, Nitai Gauranga, Srinivasa Govinda, Prahlada Narasimha and Srila Prabhupada. ISKCON manages many charitable activities including Akshaya Patra which feeds 1.3 million children across India.

    Reaching Hare Krishna ISKCON, Bangaluru
    The ISKCON temple in Bangalore is located in Rajaji Nagar on Chord Road. It is 32 KMs from Bangalore International Airport. Buses and Taxis are available from Airport to reach the Hare Krishna ISKCON Temple. ISKCON temple is 5 kms from the Bangalore City Railway Station. Auto Rickshaws are the most convenient mode to reach the Temple from the Railway Station.

    The Darshan timing at Hare Krishna ISKCON Temple are 415 AM- 5 AM, 715 AM – 1250 PM and 4 PM – 845PM
    What to expect at Hare Krishna ISKCON Temple, Bangalore
    Jagran Sewa is performed from 345-4 AM when Vedas are recited to the accompaniment of musical instruments to wake up the Lord. The Lord is offered Balya Boga after he wakes up at 4 AM. Balya Boga is Rice with sweet condensed milk. Magala Arti is performed at 415 AM. This is the first Puja done for Lord Krishna in the day. The Arti is performed with incense, lamp, water, cloth, flowers, a fan made of yak tail and another fan made of peacock feathers. Conch-shells are blown to announce the opening of the doors of the shrines of Radha Krishna, Krishna Balarama and Nitai Gauranga.
    Tulasi Puja is performed at 445 AM. Devotees circumambulate Tulasi-Devi and offer obeisance’s by chanting the Tulasi-pranama-mantra three times. Puja for Prahalada Narasimha is performed at 5 AM. Lord Narasimha the half-lion and half-man incarnation of Vishnu is known to remove obstacles in the path of devotees.Suptabhata Seva is performed for Lord Srinivasa Govinda at 515 AM. Vedic hymns like Purusha-shukta, Brahma Samhita prayers from Srimad Bhagavatam, Svasti Vachanas and Sri Venkatesha Suprabhata are sung to greet the Lord.
    After the Suprabhata Seva, devotees chant “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”.

    Artiis performed at 715 AM for Lord Krishna after which an idol of Sri Prabhupada is carried in a palanquin four times around the Temple. Sri Prabhupada takes blessings from Sri Gaurada and Sri Hanuman before reaching the Lord Narasimha’s Shrine. Next, the idol is taken to the shrine of Lord Srinivasa Govinda before returning to the main altar.
    After the Guru Puja of Sri Prabhupada, a lecture is organized on Srimad Bhagwatam. This is an interactive section where devotees can ask the lecturer any question or clarification on the subject.Raja Bhoga offering is made to the Lord at noon. The offering incudes pickles, salads, raita, savories, puris, sabjis, rotis, dhal, kari, papad, shrikhand, juice and rice.

    Jagran Sewa is performed again at 345 PM to wake up the Lord from his afternoon siesta. After the Darshan is opened up for Devotees, an offering comprising vegetables, rice, chutney, puris and gulab jamun, is maAt 8PM, Ratrikalina offering is made to the Lord. This offering consists of vegetables, milk, puris and cakes.Shayana Arti is the last Puja of the Day. This is done with festive grandeur as Lights are dimmed across the Temple and Conch Shells are blown. A Pallaki Utsav is organized before the close of the Temple. Lord Krishna and Radha are carried around the main altar in a palanquin. An Arti is performed to close the proceedings of the day accompanied by Bells, conch shells, kirtana and songs.
    Brief History of ISKCON Temple, Bangalore
    The ISKCON Temple was built over a period 7 years from 1990-1997. Six hundred men put in 10 million man-hours while using 32,000 cubic meters of stone, 131,250 tons of cement and 1,900 tons of steel to finish the magnificent Temple structure. The master plan of the project was conceived by Sri Madhu Pandit Dasa. The construction of the temple was an engineering marvel considering the fact that 1.5 tons of Gold plated Kalasham had to be lifted over 150 feet and placed over a glass canopy.
    Chanting the Hare Krishna Mantra
    Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”, liberates the mind from ignorance.

    The mantra can be sung in the form of a Kirtana or spoken softly to oneself in the form of a Japa. Japa Beads are available at the Temple Complex to help you pay attention and keep a count of the chant. Ideally one should chant the Hare Krishna mantra 16 times a day for spiritual progress.
