As is widely known, Sri Maha Periyava’s heart virtually would bleed whenever He thought of Sivalingams that are not even covered. And there were more than a hundred of வானம் பார்த்த சிவலிங்கம் (i.e., Siva Lingams with no roof over Their Heads) just in and around Kanchipuram. Sri Maha Periyava would insist that at least a thatched shed should protect the all-protecting Lord Shiva from the hot sun, rain, and other harsh elements of weather.

Sri Maha Periyava guided the highly respected Sivasri Rajappa Gurukkal to do Maha Abhishekams, on every Diwali day, to all such வானம் பார்த்த சிவலிங்கம்’s in and around Kanchi. Sivasri Rajappa Gurukkal would make nice sweet Maha Prasadhams, buy gingly oil, new vastrams, pushpam and various other diravyams for Maha Abhishekam, etc. Under the Divine guidance and further encouragement of Jagadguru HH Sri Pudhu Periyava, Sivasri Rajappa Gurukkal continues to do this Shiva Maha Kaingaryam to over 140 such வானம் பார்த்த சிவலிங்கம்’s even to this day. These days, such Diwali pujas are done in a more organized manner with Sri Matam’s help – over 7-8 autorickshaws, each with a team of three or four individuals, split the total set of வானம் பார்த்த சிவலிங்கம்’s and complete Sri Periyavaa’s orders on every Diwali day.

How fitting that Sri Maha Periyava chose Sivasri Rajappa Gurukkal, who has been taking care of all these scores of வானம் பார்த்த சிவலிங்கம்’s around Kanchi for all these years, to play the instrumental Vedic role in the resurrection of the Kubera Lingam from ThrEdha Yugam!
