The more danger and fear you experience, the more you will remember God. This intuitive understanding has been confirmed by researchers from Cornell University. But they also found a surprising feature: even long after the dangerous experience such people will continue to pray more than others, depending on their experience. The more frightening and dangerous your war experience, the more you are likely to pray 50 years later.

Analysing data from two large-scale surveys of World War II veterans, Brian Wansink of Cornell University and Craig Wansink of Virginia Wesleyan College found that as combat became more frightening, the percentage of soldiers who reported praying rose from 42 per cent to 72 per cent.
